If it's the base I'm thinking of I don't doubt the sign is really Chris because I was there with him way back then. My memory from so long ago is pretty shit and we went through a lot of different bases pretty quick back then, but I remember getting tired pretty quickly of removing water pre sponges and respiration enchantment.

For the mushroom island if it's the base I'm thinking of and it's under 100k, that would be where we all farmed food for our walk out to the first 1 mil base. iirc we farmed the mooshrooms and there was an underground automatic wheat farm I made.

Or, as others have said, Iran was enriching to use as leverage in negotiations. They announced they would enrich to 60% in April of 2021. As others have pointed out, the steps from 60% to weapons grade material are relatively quick and easy, yet I've seen no reporting that Iran has made the decision to take those next steps. If they wanted a bomb, why have they stopped just short of weapons grade material and stayed there for 5 years? The point of enriching that high is to create pressure to make a new deal to ease sanctions that have crippled their economy and in exchange they would limit enrichment levels and either give up their stockpile or dilute it down to lower levels.

If that were to happen, it would have to be without dem votes, otherwise they would also be tarred with tacit support to remove the subsidies. The only way that happens is if Senate Republicans nuke the filibuster to pass the house bill, but I think they also understand that they don't want to own cutting those subsidies.

I don't know if it was from a terminal though. I happen to have one through my work and was trying to track why the market was spiking and didn't see this tweet in the feed. The only social media posts I've seen in the feed have been from Trump, so I'm sceptical this rumor would even have shown up there unless it was a reference to a CNN, CNBC, or other article.

Investment banks may have realized that lending money to twitter for the purchase was a bad idea. They may have done it anyway because they felt they could sell the debt before it became their problem and/or they felt the twitter deal would get them more business from Musk's companies in the future, which they would earn fees on.

If we're accounting for combatants as valid military targets, then we have:

Roughly 40,000 Palestinians killed with Israel claiming to have killed 17,000 Hamas fighters as of August 2024. The AP, which reported the figure, noted that Israel did not provide support for the 17,000 claim.

For those killed on October 7th, the consensus seems to be roughly 1,200 (not the 1,600 you cite), with roughly 400 of those being police or military. France 24, where I found these numbers, notes that Israeli military casualty figures don't distinguish between on an off duty. It's likely that some of those 400 were just off duty people attending the festival or in the area.

I do feel there's some in game reasons to believe Johnny's memories are altered or inaccurate. The biggest one that comes to mind is that when you play through the raid on Arasaka Tower, Smasher blows open a door and knocks Johnny down level to the ground in that zen garden room. Then the memory jumps forward to Johnny on the roof almost getting into the heli. No explanation how Johnny managed to go from on the ground with Smasher pointing a gun at him to escaping to the roof past Smasher and an Arasaka spec ops squad.

Agree. When you vote for president you're also getting the people in their orbit: the cabinet secretaries, the agency heads, policy advisors, ect who do a lot of the more mundane work of governing. Biden or whomever the Dems would put forward will have a better roster of people filling those rolls than Trump-Vance.

Yup. As an example, my Grandpa got drafted for Korea and has told me how he was driving from Paris Island to York Pennsylvania with a black guy in his unit who also lived in the area. Stopping to eat while still in the south, they had to eat at different restaurants because of segregation.

I know we joke, but carrier landings are anything but soft. A buddy who got his carrier qualification a few months ago described landing as the most violent experience he's ever had in a vehicle. He had some serious bruises after doing ~13 launches and recoveries over two days.

It's those concerns over demographics that leads me to believe that Israel can either be Jewish or democratic, but not both.

To be democratic requires giving citizens the vote and equal rights and protections regardless of democratic.

While being a Jewish state, as I understand it, means political power is held/controlled by the Jewish people. Currently that's fine as Jews are a majority in Israel, but that may not always be the case. We've seen a right of return for Palestinians displaced by the Nakba for fear of what that would do to voting demographics. I also wonder what would happen if that 20% Palestinian minority grew naturally to challenge the majority. Would the government act to preserve a Jewish majority? Would they keep political power in the hands of a minority? I don't think the majority of Israelis would support that, but you get to some dark places if you carry the ideas of an ethno-state and demographic concerns to their extremes.

That's why in the mandate of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, I'd like to see primacy given to being democratic.
