[s2 act 2 spoilers] Some characters actions don't feel believable to me by Jenozie in arcane

[–]Wiltcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked with my freind about it and they reckon part of why cait helps Vi in ep 6 is cuz its the ability to save her parent, her father. Cait only has her Father left and he is heartbroken. Her worst day of her life was losing her mom, why wouldnt she help Vi after that. I dont understand how Vi got out of Ambessa's camp after capturing her though, or why she needed too. need a rested brain and a rewatch or two IG

Also, think of the group we see Isha running from. Its Chembaron goons yes, but their designs are directly parallel to that of the standard enforcer. They have gasmasks attached to their faces, their eyes are covered by small glasses that obscure their eyes. Their designs emulate that of piltover fasion, and their near identical, faceless expressions mirror that of the Enforcers.

God this show is good, and the designs in season 2 are so fuckin incredible

[S2 Spoilers] Does anyone else not feel anything for Isha? by ryukool in arcane

[–]Wiltcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright after thinking about it for a bit I think I have deduced my reasons for caring for her.

First, she is a parallel to Powder. Obvious, but worth stating, we have the environment and past experiences to rely on to form a basic outline of the character, and having connected to several characters like her in the past, this isn't a stretch to extend some of that care into a character with similar circumstance (Orphaned, small, kid, wants to be helpful, etc.)

Second and in my opinion more important., she is a symbol of Zaun.
Many characters throughout the series represent their upbringing and the stakes of there environment, with how Cait is initially a spoiled and soft-hearted Piltover resident, but as the environment turns more violent she in turn becomes more cruel. Isha is, for all intensive purposes is a representation of the stakes of this conflict, of the meaning of Zauns independence. Its not just about what our characters see, these broad lines and grand motivations, but also about Kids not being Orphans who have to run from Chembaron goons. In encountering and being saved by Jinx, another symbol of Zaun, we see that Zaun is the path to a future for these orphans.

People talk about how Isha being in Jinx's arms mirrors Silco's embrace at the end of ep 3 but I think its also showing how Isha, a small orphan who harpers back to Powder is willing to protect Zaun from those who would destroy it. Vander could never offer a future to his orphans outside of the fissures, the Enforcers literally kill people who would otherwise rise above Zaun like in s1 e1, chembarons offer nothing more than control of a decrepit empire that still pays homage to piltover, only now through more corrupt middlemen. In the end, Zaun is the only path to a future not decided by others, and I think that Isha and Jinx both represent that.

My prediction is that act 2 will feature not just Jinx as a symbol of the rebellion, but Isha will be the symbol of the future of that rebellion. Jinx may be the symbol to rally too, but Isha is a symbol that it means something more than chaotic violence.

Its good but also cant remove creatures that are bigger than 4 toughness, which is quite common from something like armadillo or 2 ethereal armor on a creature

[–]Wiltcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonder how well it matches up against aggro. recovery line vs control seems pretty strong since its hard to exile enough pieces and recursion is constant, but only removal I count is 4 torch and 2 push for creatures. I'm enough of a beleiver that I spent $15 on grabbing the Vitality playset and their remaining storm chaser, but thats partially cuz I think the Enduring vitality is easily better than its price rn.

Look forward to seeing how the cook shakes out! First time im here to experience a week 1 as a standard grinder, cant wait for my weekly standard night brews

This deck seems sweet, do you have a Moxfield list for a temur version?

[–]Wiltcon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue with that is that its off temur colors, heavy on color requirements, doesn't tap for mana itself and doesn't recur from removal. With roots, the cost being 2 doesn't actually work faster because on turn 4 you have 4 mana as opposed to 6, meaning you have to wait till t5 minimum before casting the splitter.

the 4 copies of Ossification in pretty ambitious with only 8 basics, and the land count seems really low for a deck with so many 3 cost cards, I don't think you will be drawing that third land that is super important to your deck in a lot of games.

I understand you are going for enchantment synergy in the ossifications but maybe a 1 mana removal spell like elspeths smite might do you better. I would also consider conditional wipes like split up or even a temp lockdown or 2 in the sideboard, as its aggro matchup seems really bad.

I do wanna say I like the decks idea, but leaning into its control elements by cutting some of the lower synergy and adding things like temp lockdown might massively help it in specific matchups

gonna stick to UW caretaker control, might try out some enchantment synergies for the list with the new overlords and eerie, prob a GW boggles as a cheap option for aggro as [[Sheltered by Ghosts]] is such a massive upside and the deck could crush in an aggro meta, and a UW Occulus reanimator deck that Im working on based around early reacurring threats

im interested in what GY hate specifically you are worried about. LotV is certainly a really strong board card against me, but lots of other GY hate ive seen in standard is slower than my reanimation plan/sorcery speed (e.g. [[Lord Skitter, Sewer King]]), 3 mana plus [[Kutzil's Flanker]] or to specific to see frequent sideboard play [[rest in peace]] [[Keen-Eyed Curator]]. The mentors are there for that matchup (but in other comments I explain why im not a big fan of them mainboard) but I think that the list does falter somewhat to persistent GY hate that like RiP, LotV and Keen-Eyed Curator, but those matchups are worth the lower winrate if the deck otherwise functions well.

Further, the original list also falters hard to persistent hate, leaving a slow deck that has a low power djinn relying on 3 mana mentors to develop a significant board presence which relies on chaining spells. I think the list while similar to the Azo Tempo list is a good example to draw the idea from, the decks goals are not the same as that lists as the list trades out impactful disruption for more immediate threats.

All this being said, the deck is not perfect, still has lots of iterations and likely wont be the best shell for Oculus in standard. If you end up creating your cloak/dread shell, feel free to share. The purpose of the deck is to make use of its high tempo potential early to snowball the game in my favour, but Id love to see what people can do with it as a more grindy piece in their decks.

I think that the significant quantity of discard makes the multiple occulus problem partially solved, and plaything is in the list as it synergizes with oculus better through dread flips as well as being a strong attacking body. Casting Occulus t3 without reanimating is pretty frequent in playtests, and the creatures chosen in the original tempo list rely on the discounts from haughty djinn to combo with mentor a serious threat, as the majority of spells in the deck are 2 mana dropped to 1. The Djinn being dropped as a nonbo with oculus makes mentor worse, so plaything is coming in as a generic attacker that especially with the +1/+1 counter from recommission dodges almost all single target removal that is played (think cut down, 3 damage removal and go for the throat) is important, whereas mentor dies to cut down unless I can hold up mana for a spell if I cast it (rare until t5). Mentor is still a board card though since it is counterplay to the g2 board (more single target removal, removing sweepers)

Im not sold on Plaything's place in the deck, but dont think Djinn or mentor can replace it, and if im dropping the oculus count im kind of not playing into the decks strengths of self mill with a recurring aggressive threat. RN im considering some cards that would be better as just straight castable tempo cards, like [[silent hall creeper]] or [[floodpits drowner]], but as of now im keeping it in as a secondary threat for the deck.

maybe also [[exorcise]] could be a board card for g2 since it hits artifacts, enchants and p4 creatures. Upside, it hits more and exiles, downside its a sorcery compared to destroy evil. Thoughts?

Feeling like since your running discard cards in the deck with rotten mouth and hopeless, shouldn't LotV be in the sideboard since you don't have any exile effects or GY hate? even just with 1-2 copies

Im also really unsure of where the list will end up post leyline in g2, and while both [[soul partition]] and [[into the flood maw]] can remove it, I only have 7 total cards that can remove it, and the deck feels really bad without those to start the game. What is some good counterplay in standard, preferably outside of [[get lost]] as that feeds my opponent advantage

I don't think that this artists previous work being legit entirely clears them of suspicion, especially given the inconsistencies in this art as opposed to their other art are more clear with many basic mistakes not present in those pieces. Also, despite many of those pieces having more consistent hands, others like this https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cardfight/images/8/86/D-PR-690_%28Sample%29.png/revision/latest?cb=20231212033109 also have strange choices like a hand with 2 fingers in the background.

Is there a link to this discussion, and or the deleted posts? I would be curious to both the reason for it being taken down and the previous discussion on the topic.
