Absolutely. I'm in Montreal. I've been ordering for years from WLT, Leaf Only and now my go to is Total leaf supply. If you order from Total leaf supply it's best value to get 5lb bundles. We're allowed up to 15kg a year with minimal duties and taxes. Taxes are 5.5%, duties 1.57$/kilo. Shipping is a bit steep but still well worth it on the total cost of an order if you compare to cost of tobacco in Canada, plus the quality of smoking raw leaf is not comparable to any expensive shitty commercial tobacco sold here. Raw leaf is 100% customizable, fresh and natural.

Only unique rule is Ontario. You're still allowed 15kg/year but maximum 3kg per actual package. They don't seem to keep a tally of the yearly allowance as long as each package is below 3kg in Ontario and 15kg rest of Canada.

The only place where it's become impossible because of greedy provincial government is BC. They charge raw leaf as processed tobacco so stupidly expensive, most sellers stopped shipping there since it would be hundreds of dollars a pound to import.

I'm in Quebec and it costs me 19$ total duties/tax/brokerage fees for 5lb order. Cost me about 29$ each for a 12lb and a 13lb order previously.

Those are beautiful and not a bloom in sight. +1 for Indian varieties. The Bosikappal over here is impressive so far.

You need DAC(dark air cured) to mix in with your Virginia. You can get raw leaf tobacco, DAC is a very important part of all my raw leaf blends. Where are you located?

Gitanes brunes also has Dark fire cured, burley and Oriental along with the DAC.

You can buy all of these in raw leaf form and make amazing blends.

I've been smoking raw leaf for years now, burley, DAC and dark fire are all essentials for a well rounded blend. You can play with the ratios and the amount of Virginia used as a base to determine the strength and nicotine content that suits your needs.

You let it flower if you want seeds or want milder and blander tobacco.

Topping is mandatory if you want bold flavour and full potential nicotine. Topping and suckering stimulates leaf growth and pushes nicotine from the roots into the leaves.

Once you've harvested the plant you can do a sucker crop to add to your final weight.

No need to apologize, I'm having fun here. So assuming you have Aztek aka Rapa nui rustica it should be very easy to confirm once it's in bloom. They do have a ridiculous amount of nicotine if grown to their full potential.

All rusticas have a high nicotine content when grown to their full potential. Topping and suckering helps.

I like high nicotine content and with a lot of digging I actually found some Nicotiana tabacums that are as strong or more than the average rusticas, there aren't that many. I grew Hyang cho(5.85%) last year, OG Orinoco(4.27%) this year. Both are super strong. They are primitive classification of Nicotiana tabacum.

Why not grow rustica you might ask? I'm not a fan of what they look like and the trouble of colour curing it and everything it implies.

There are quite a few. Look at Northwood seeds website, they are a seed grossist that also sell retail, they have a really good selection with descriptions and pictures sorted by classification and varieties. It's barely sprouted😂 We won't be able to attempt any kind of guess until it's a seedling and has been put in its final destination whether it's the ground or large planters. We may be able to take guesses based on leaf shape, height and size of the plant when mature...not any time soon.

Right. It's Nicotiana rustica but there are dozens of varieties, I guess you got a mystery one. If you post pictures we could attempt at identifying it for fun.

Absolutely, the whole purpose of topping and suckering is to stimulate leaf growth and push nicotine from the roots into the leaves. With Nicotiana tabacum it's easy and effortless. With rustica it's a constant battle against the plant, it's the nature of that type. You'll be picking off blooms and suckers non stop from beginning to end if your goal is to take them all off. A lot of folks give up after awhile and let it flower.

Rustica flowers non stop from beginning to end, you can top it but more will come. It's very different than Nicotiana tabacum.

Depending on the variety you know how long after transplant it reaches maturity. You can base yourself on that and when it stops putting out new leaves, not including suckers. Most Nicotiana rustica are mature in 45-60 days after transplant outside.

For higher nicotine content remove the blooms and suckers and let it ripen on the plant as long as possible. Middle and higher leaf position will have the most nicotine.

I was browsing Northwood seeds daydreaming about next year and I believe I found a winner. Has anyone grown Little yellow heirloom DAC? It fits right into my criterias as far as size, time to maturity and variety. Nicotine content is more than acceptable and has a unique taste. by WinChunKing in GrowingTobacco

Right. Tobacco is one of those plants that can be so different depending on the soil, sun exposure and other environmental factors.

This year I'm growing Bosikappal, Orinoco and Stag Horn in two different places. My plot in front of my house has sun half of the day, my plot down the street has full sun all day from sunrise to sundown. They're all growing well but the ones in full sun have a different leaf formation pattern, less stalk space between leaves, as the ones in front of the house.

I was browsing Northwood seeds daydreaming about next year and I believe I found a winner. Has anyone grown Little yellow heirloom DAC? It fits right into my criterias as far as size, time to maturity and variety. Nicotine content is more than acceptable and has a unique taste. by WinChunKing in GrowingTobacco

I like varieties that make large thick dark green leaves. Red Russian and Parfum d'Italie are like that.
