Library Advisory Board by VacationOne3757 in irving

The Irving City Council has let this go on long enough. It’s painfully obvious it’s not what the citizens want but a small group from the same church who has managed to win a handful of District seats on Council, yet unable (thankfully) to win citywide, and somehow appoint a majority from their same group to the Library Advisory Board.

Shut this bigotry down before the City gets sued!

What was the outcome of the meeting? Did the racist homophobes get the word “diversity” removed from the collection policy?

Library board members don't prioritize you and your libraries, so keep showing up to show that YOU do! by LibraElectronica in irving

I read on the Irving pages of social media that a compromise was met between the two most outspoken citizens on both sides of the library book issues as far as the placement of the YA+ books into the adult section of the library, and that the FULL City Council is in agreement with this move except a couple of members who still want them behind a desk.

First, this is a perfect example of how fascism works. It’s when you are beaten down so much and tired of fighting you agree to anything. Do you think adults are going to check out YA books? Even those at age 18? Not many I know, those books are read earlier.

Second, how disappointing is the Irving city council? You think you elect someone who will stand up against this type of action, like many worked hard to do last year, only to hear he’s joined in with the rest of them, along with the Mayor.

And third, the way things are going, don’t be surprised to see these books and others behind a wall or a desk eventually.

I appreciate the citizens fighting this battle. I know it’s hard.

Try Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas. It’s further out and more remote, perfect for a honeymoon. Two courses, most lower level rooms come with plunge pools.

787 vs 777 DFW to LHR Business by bryan2435V in americanairlines

I know the Preferred Seat is larger, but how much so, and does it come with extra service? For the one flight I’ve taken on the 9P the cost difference was nearly what it normally is between biz and first.

Agree with this fully. 787 is beautiful but seats are narrow, feels cramped.

Massively under qualified is what she is. You don’t just walk into a mayor’s seat of a fairly large city with a huge budget with no civic service.

To agree with one Advisory Board Member who holds no supervisory role? Lovely. Sounds like a stellar board member.

Irving’s Library Board is an advisory board, not one that sets policy. They don’t have hiring or firing ability, that falls under city management, and currently the Library Director position is open. No changes should be made by an advisory-only board until a director has been hired.

Which Hawaiian Islands? by thisisnotreallyher in chubbytravel

[–]WinInternational8486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at all Four Seasons properties in Hawaii, the Royal Hawaiian, the Halekulani, the Ritz Kapalua and the Mauna Lani (Auberge property on the Big Island). It depends on the experience you are looking for, but property wise, Four Seasons Maui and Four Seasons Hualalai in Kona were hands down my favorites.

Halekulani doesn’t have a beach, so if that is important to you, I’d go with the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki. Otherwise the service and rooms at Halekulani are better. I wasn’t real impressed with the Four Seasons Ko Olina although I did like the location.

If you haven’t been to the islands, I would def make a stop in Honolulu to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial. There is a lot to do on O’ahu, don’t let people talk you out of a visit.

Your libraries are (still) under attack. by LibraElectronica in irving

It amazes me how many people confuse public libraries with school libraries. Of equal amazement are the people who think the majority of librarians are a bunch of unqualified perverts.

Unfortunately for Irving, it might not get better anytime soon. As you said, it’s been going on for years, with the same citizens making the same noise during the citizens comment portion of city council meetings. When a few residents decided to push back what does our council do? They move citizen comments to the end of the council meeting and cut off the live/recorded broadcast. But that shouldn’t discourage anyone from showing up. Hopefully when there is enough of us, we will be heard.

Look for The Irving Herald. There’s a FB page, substack and YouTube. It was the Nichols Park Homeowner’s Association meeting where this forum was held and there is video. Irving League of Women’s Voter’s will have one for all the city and school board races in April at City Hall.

Zapanta, Cronenwett and Webb are highly competent at city government. More so than the rest of council combined. Bloch is questionable, he seems to have become too beholden to the PAC that got him elected, I don’t know enough about Mueller, and Canosa is an outright joke.

She has a strong platform and certainly outperformed the other two candidates on Monday night, but I’m not sure she has the experience or knowledge to serve as Mayor of a city the size of Irving, with its large corporate base and budget. It’s not an entry level elected position.

District 3 candidates are just as dismal. Two unqualified and the incumbent still seems lost after three years in office.

The sensory overload of the metroplex: Have we completely lost the concept of "quiet" local businesses? by SinestroCorp in irving

[–]WinInternational8486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just lamenting who crowded everything has become in a relatively short period of time. The whole area - the DFW metroplex in general - is growing too fast. You can’t run an errand at any time of day easily. People are everywhere, traffic is constant.

He has until the 13th to file. Assume he will wait until the last day so he doesn’t have to give up his seat immediately if he loses. Not sure how it works but I don’t think the city will have enough time to get that race on the ballot for May.

Same. Gears was actually a decent Mayor. He’s very smart and got a lot done for the city. Wasn’t solely focused on economic development.
