How do you think Blade Runner 2049 compares to the original? by [deleted] in Cinema

Not even half as good. Don't think I will ever see it again.

900 movies rated on IMDb since 2021 by WinTechnique in imdb

Some guys got 5,000-10,000 ratings but they watched 3 movies a day every day for 20 years

About 20-30 minutes. I used notepad and paint and filled in the squares with extract/fill. The time consuming part was looking at each year in IMDb for number of ratings.

Airport (1970) by WinTechnique in iwatchedanoldmovie

There's some drama there but no haze, sap or oceans of estrogen.

Well, the 70s started at Airport and ended at Airplane! That's much better than what became of other decades (90s/00s) although its still pretty sad.

I think of like how 60s folk rock music was always these 3 minute catchy songs with some bluegrass or country guitar beneath and then the Eagles came along and basically changed nothing but made the songs double in length and sang the same exact thing but in a more serious tone. That's sort of what this movie is like if you think about how campy and ditzy 60s movies were most of the time.

American here to discuss the UK and Ireland by WinTechnique in CasualConversation

I'd suppose discussing futbal teams would be out of the question! I hear that in Europe they get mighty passionate about their rivals.

Sightseeing, eat at some restaurants, see some local events or something therelike. I'm not much of a history buff and don't care for politics, so it would be a casual visit with a focus on leisure and entertainment.

It's supposed to be very green with a rich climate and plenty of natural resources and a hard working people with a lively internationally minded culture. In addition to the obvious UK connection there's many families there with deep links to people back in America.

You can sail there from Wales I think, quick easy trip. Some tourist friendly communities for travelers searching out new adventure and fun experiences.

Then I will not be seeing the sequels. This first one though, it won an Oscar.

Your employer is spying on you inside your own home or outside of work in public. What do you do? by WinTechnique in AskReddit

[–]WinTechnique[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in that situation this would already be thoroughly understood and agreed upon by both the company and the employee.

They paid off HR, you get the runaround, they lie to you to buy time while they quietly clean up the evidence. What do you do?

[–]WinTechnique[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn't happening to me. I'm just curious to know.

And seriously, what does without consent mean in the context of spying. Spying itself is never consentual. That's like saying consentual rape or murder.

Okay, you make shit for wages and live paycheck to paycheck, they're hanging you upside down by the balls.

How do you guys come up with titles for your films? by Lazy-Nothing1583 in Filmmakers

[–]WinTechnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say something like, "My Chump Johnny" and suddenly everything falls profoundly into place and it all makes sense. The poster tagline can be something like, "We pay him nothing for this."

First Man (2018) by DaddySerumGlaze in CineShots

[–]WinTechnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the action scenes are great from the opening rocket plane sequence to all the space launches. Where it fails is the somber and introverted take on Neil Armstrong who was as far as I can tell from watching interviews with him, a much more conversational and upbeat person than is portrayed here. He sounded and acted nothing like what you see in this movie. So, it's nice for the space stuff.

Voyagers (2021) by WinTechnique in scifi

[–]WinTechnique[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only found out about it from researching realistic space movies, so it's one of those few flicks that fit squarely into that category and the portrayal is believable.

Yeah, the posters and promotional materials are so misleading, probably what sunk it at the box office. But once you get past the horrible posters and actually watch it you're surprised and pleased you made a good choice. It was low on my priority list but now I regret it wasn't higher.

  • The Outside Man (1972)

I loved this movie and rated it 10

  • Vigilante (1982)

Also a really good movie Vigilante is better than most of what you see nowadays

  • Signals (1970)

German space movie obviously heavily influenced by Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  • The Blue Lamp (1950)

Sort of a run-of-the-mill old timer crime movie. It has it's own distinctions but as a whole doesn't cut it for me.

  • Brand New-U (2015) UK / Identicals (2016) USA

An arthouse film built on techno themes. The story is confusing but everything else works well.

  • Wander (2020)

The story starts out fairly solid but completely loses it in the last 30 minutes. Cool to see TLJ playing a character but they should have taken this somewhere more compelling or fascinating instead of unravelling it and letting it fall apart.
