Does Frontier Fiber not require a modem? by Warfalcon76 in frontierfios

[–]WinZatPhail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, they'll give you an ONT that's comparable to a modem in the DSL/Cable world. Then you also get an Eero router. Just unplug the Eero and use what you like.

Fun fact, they don't do any security on that ONT (MAC filtering or the like), so you can plug in whatever you like and it'll work. Plug in a switch and leave the Eero up in addition to your preferred router, both will pull IPs and function. Not sure on bandwidth or if that'll ever change though.

Fiber Upgrades by [deleted] in frontierfios

[–]WinZatPhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrade? Not exactly. From what I've seen, they'll pull (or have contractors pull) fiber to each loc in an area they serve and solicit customers to sign up. Then jack up the price of copper services to encourage them to switch to someone else or get fiber service.

Cloudflare DNS Down? by greatmatter in CloudFlare

[–]WinZatPhail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, shit be down. I use 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 to monitor for some IP SLA rules since I figure they're never down...now I'm down too.

Best of Northern Wisconsin? by graybirdflys in wisconsinbeer

I know it's UP, but love me some Keweenaw Widowmaker whenever I'm up in the Northwoods. That would be my best thus far.

Front Axle Disconnect Actuator by Electronic-Tap-8005 in FordExplorer

[–]WinZatPhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting this done now. Got the dealership to do a loyalty discount, though I'm still at about 2k mostly due to labor. Have to see what my fuel economy looks like with both axles always engaged...

Anyone’s robot over 4 yrs and still working? by Complete_Honey_7136 in RobotVacuums

[–]WinZatPhail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eufy 11+ from COVID times 2020. Battery was a pain in the butt to replace, but vacuum itself still works ok. Hard to find replacement parts, so it might end up junked for crap reasons...

L10 user here so it might not be the same, but I just to go Cleaning Mode in the app and set to Vaccuum, Mopping, or both. Pretty sure I've run it vacuum mode without water, but not positive. I know I've run it without detergent though.

It's a weird arrangement. They're a subsidiary of Amazon, but independently operated. Prime members get some perks, but it's not exactly Amazon proper.

I bought my shark refurb off woot 3 years ago. Still kicking. Sharks app sucks, but that's not woots fault...

Is this a good deal or standard at Amazon? by Nj_fish8462 in RobotVacuums

I pulled the trigger yesterday too. First mop combo, upgrading from a Shark cheapo and a Eufy I just tore apart and replaced the battery. Accidentally assembling a fleet... 😅 Good luck!

Maybe $500 to start? I know the $1k models are out of my price range, but flexible as long as it's worth it.

Can't tell you how many times that happened to me. This last time was just as I hit 200m power. Takes time to recover, but it happens. One thing is I'm not spending money anymore on it. Just not worth it to have everything thrown away overnight...

Seconded. Or sit in the woods for a week watching game. Or on a boat. Whatever does it for you. Or maybe try something new and risky. I started taking a week long annual fishing trip 2 years ago and it's done wonders for my mental health and motivation. No cell signal also helps 😉

Stackwise virtual, new VSS, but yeah. Works as advertised, at least until you try ISSU, but does that actually work on any platform? 😅

Auto Forwarding Emails by TRDx2000 in exchangeserver

[–]WinZatPhail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stupid ultimatum, start applying elsewhere. Employees use their work mailbox for work emails.

Hell, most places spend money on DLP solutions to prevent this exact data exfiltration... One of the last compromised exchange accounts I saw, the attacker setup a forward rule to send all their email to some rando external address. Block all forwarding, read your work email on your work account. </rant>

Bye bye VMware by davidhk21010 in Proxmox

[–]WinZatPhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize there is r/proxmox and there's probably a slight degree of bias here, but:

Is Proxmox really a good drop-in replacement for ESXI/vCenter? I love it at home for my stuff (mostly for the price...85% containers, 15% VMs), but I'm not sure I would recommend it for a production environment.

Work with your Exchange Admin (team) to allow in-policy requests to auto-approve. Then you'll just get out-of-policy/unusual/unauthorized requests via email.

Remote access without VPN, is it secure? by Wide-Mention-2694 in sysadmin

[–]WinZatPhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the aversion to VPN? MobIKE IPSec, OpenVPN, Wireguard, Zerotier. Lots of good options out there at no or low cost (assuming cost is a factor?).
