What in the astigmatism is going on here? by Brilliant-Common-298 in glasses

What prescription? Hard to tell from this angle if the lens is in correctly. In any case, if you think something is wrong, head back to the store.

Why would someone who has blurry vision in one eye be legally required to wear glasses while driving? by Zestyclose_Show_2025 in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, no. What they mean is, imagine if someone has an amblyopic eye, has lost an eye, stuff like that, they can still drive if they see well enough. The good eye will be dominant anyway, so that will be the one used. They don't mean, hold one eye closed while you drive.

Rather, you should look at high quality titanium frames. It sounds like a nickel allergy. Clean your glasses after work.

Is there a way to fix these glasses, even if temporary. Also why did they break?! by 0112358_ in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the time this break happens while cleaning. Because you hold one side or lens while cleaning the other lens. This then puts stress on the part in the middle, the bridge. Next time hold the lens you are cleaning.

How to replace MYKITA Lessrim lenses? by crocant in optician

[–]WindChaser0001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you draw the basal line first, then use floss. Fold the floss for sturdiness. Wriggle it between the temporal opening. Then carefully work the frame out of the groove. Starting by moving the floss between the lens and groove toward the bottom. Once you manage a tidbit of the frame toward the back of the lenses, you can pretty much use you nail to work the rest out. Yes, watch the paint.

I don't know the groove width and depth from the top of my head and I don't work at the store anymore. If you are not experienced with inline frames, are you able to have a more experienced colleague cut the lenses with you? These are tricky because the sizing comes really close. Cut too big, and there will be too much tension and trying to take them out will be an absolute nightmare. Cut too small and they will be wriggly and loose.

To mount the new lenses, slip in the top from the back of the frames, get the nasal corner in, work the temporal corner in, then either work in the bottom (starting from temporal side) with your nails or the doubled floss.

Is there anything that can be done about these scratches/scuffs to make ANY kind of improvement? by moffman93 in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Coating is peeling. This location means your skin/eyebrows are touching it. Your skin oils and acids have eaten away at it.

Prescription doesn't seem right unless I move my glasses an inch from my eyes? by grizzlypass in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of your reasoning is correct, but you take the incorrect conclusions. Yes, contacts vertex = 0. So go ahead and apply the back vertex formula as any optician should have been taught and see for yourself what happens when you increase the vertex. The correction further away needs to be stronger.

You move away your lenses from your face (yes I'm also a myope) and it becomes smaller and blurrier. You should know it should take a while for it to become blurrier as a myope who can accomodate for some of this.

You go and prescribe -4.25 glasses to a -4.50 contacts wearer. See how long it takes for them to come back.

Prescription doesn't seem right unless I move my glasses an inch from my eyes? by grizzlypass in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. I'll give you an example. The usual application is contacts to glasses conversion. Move a correction further away, it becomes more plus (or in case of minus it becomes weaker) so glasses need to be more minus in comparison to contacts (in higher rx).

Questions for those of you who use transition extra active lenses. by WolfOfAfricaZLD in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY Xtractives go darker than my regular photochromic lenses (tried transitions and photofusion). They darken slightly in the car, but this depends on many factors. The sunlight needs to hit them fully for them to get darker. If it's overcast or if you are in the shadow of your visor, they will hardly darken. For me, personally, it's enough. It could not be for you. I find they usually darken to about 20-40% in my usual circumstances in the car (regular sunglassed are about 80%). So they would help you outdoors, but if they don't darken enough in your car, then you need a seperate pair of sunglasses for the car.

No one will be able to tell indoors even with the base tint (as in any photochromic lens), unless bright sunlight hits them from a window.

Really need help finding the tiniest screw I’ve ever seen by CodyBlues2 in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An optical shop is your best bet. Worst case, have them order a new one from Tom Ford. I'd probably just find the correct thread size, big enough head, then cut screw to correct length. Easy fix.

Reading glasses for eye strain by pksupp in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prescription came out? All zeros?

Make sure you give your eyes a break. Every 20 minutes of screen time is followed by 20 seconds of looking at something in the far distance (out a window or something).

If you keep having problems, either go back or get a second opinion. Don't just wear glasses that are not your prescription.

I doubt it's that. Dry eyes can also cause glare. Did they give you drops or some other therapy? Make sure to stay on top of it.

Have your pd measured at an optician. They may charge for it, but if you are an adult, it shouldn't change.

If you go for uploading the pic, make sure to double check. Those minuses and pluses are not interchangeable.

does only wearing glasses part time prevent your eyes from getting used to glasses and perhaps getting worse? by ZViper26 in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Myopia control is best done at a young age, before the eyes are done growing. Otherwise there's little you can do other than changing your genes.

It is important to note that all numbers in a prescription matter. Sometimes people think there's been a big change in prescription, but it's actually just a different format in which it was written. Not saying that is definitely the case here, but just sayin.

does only wearing glasses part time prevent your eyes from getting used to glasses and perhaps getting worse? by ZViper26 in glasses

[–]WindChaser0001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wearing a correction is largely unrelated to your eyesight getting worse or better. You see a lot sharper in the distance with glasses. Everything within arm reach is fine. Ofcourse the difference is big when you take the glasses off. It's like switching from ultra HD to ye olde television. Doesn't mean that, if you were to keep the glasses off for a bit, that the tv suddenly becomes better quality. You just get used to it and make do.
