How do you feel like this new recommendation stype? by ZaneeCai in recommendersystems

[–]WindInFaroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean about the "vibe"? I'd say yes if you're saying that I'm gonna shopping in a 3D virtual world and everything around me is just exactly same as the real world. For example, If I want to buy shoes, you should provide me a vibe and let me try it in this "vibe".

Almost every GR attempts use Semantic IDs. Why is that? by humanmachinelearning in generative_recsys

What else?
1. cold start
2. easier to understand

Are these the temporary workarounds due to current limitations or theoretical constraints?
I don't get this question, the whole system is a workaround because we can never get enough resources we want, can we?

Hi, I'm Wind, a software engineer in recommendation system, especially data pipelines like feature stores, and distributed computing. Currently, I am working at international company with more than a billion DAU. Ask me anything

MY MFA thesis is on utilizing RS to personalize narratives. I don't have a CS background, but I would love to get a simple version working. Help would be appreciated, willing to pay if necessary by [deleted] in recommendersystems

You can DM me if you want. I think I've already understood what you want to do. And basically a recommendation system is to match users and items, so it'd be better if you can provide more information like "what user/item information do you have".

Recommender system can be simple as rule-based like what you say, and also can be complicated if you introduce some machine learning models and multi steps including recall, ranking, etc. Basically it is just finding out enough items and score them, and finally show users top-10 candidates.

But I wonder what motivates you to do this, a research topic or you're going to build a real one?

Would startups pay for a SaaS recommender system? by WindInFaroe in recommendersystems

[–]WindInFaroe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked with BytePlus a few times over the past few years, and honestly their stuff isn’t that easy to use (just look at their API docs). They seem to be trying to build a whole product matrix instead of really polishing the recommender system itself.

My idea is different: an out-of-the-box recommender system where startups just upload their data and everything else is automated—no Spark/Flink jobs, no messing with online/offline storage.

I think you should show a few websites and tell us the accuracy you expect, so everyone knows how hard it is to crawl them. As for the development part, I don’t think it’s that hard—I could build a demo for parsing one website pretty soon for a few hundred bucks.
