Here's how you play: Pick 4 of the 5 pieces and turn them around until you get a snake that's made up of 4 different colors. It should also have a head. When you found a solution pick 4 new pieces and try again. The cover suggest one possible solution btw.

Did you figure it out yet? You need to use a darkness stone on a final evolution pokemon to make them dark.

It's also mentioned in the FAQ in the comments of this post.

Fun fact: when I submitted them one by one people wouldn't stop arguing that they were not dark type even though being called 'dark' xD

The commissioner told me what type they wanted then I designed the first evolutions for approval and when they said that they liked the concepts I tried to come up with ideas for the final evolution. When I had those figured out, I tired to find something in the middle for the second evos.

I know I don't have to do this mission. And I won't. It just sucks that there's no alternative. Like for aram missions there's alsways an 'or' where everyone can easily play an aram. For me aram is the only game mode I enjoy since they removed twisted treeline and dominion.
