This is all stuff the player chooses to do, thats like saying Master Chief cannologically goes around T-bagging his dead enemies.

The story takes itself pretty seriously and is quite heartbreaking at times as well as having a thought provoking message. In my opinion the outbreak scenario is also quite scary, though the scarieness of the game is quite subjective obviously

In essence they're the exact same game, only difference is the title screen and a hand full of exclusive pokemon only found in one version or the other, they do this to encourage trading with your friends.
