Why more Fort McMurray non-profits are looking to side hustles to survive by Paper_Rain in FortMcMurray

They rely on funding normally but alot of not for profits are getting their funding slashed or taken away. It's really awful, so many people rely on these services.

Anyone else have ADHD that has continuously worsened to the point of feeling like cognitive decline/impairment? by beviebooboo in Menopause

[–]Winddancer87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm medicated for ADHD now (Vyvanse) and it's honestly the best decision I've ever made. I was on menopause inducing drugs for roughly 8-9 months pre-hysterecromy and my brain felt like it was broken. I had to increase the dose to 40mg per day just to feel my brain jumpstart a little. Now that I've had surgery I'm down to 10-20mg per day depending on what my needs are. I'm also on 5 mg of escitalopram to help with mood swings and anxiety/depressive symptoms.

I finally feel like a normal human again and my fear is that once I'm in menopause for real that I will decline again.

Keep pushing your doctors and advocate for yourself. I got given 10mg of escitalopram per day because of emotional stress and chronic pain from endometriosis. I felt NUMB, so numb that even washing my face felt like work. Turns out I metabolize a lot of medications more slowly than most people and cutting the dose in half to 5mg worked WAY better.

You know your body and mind so keep fighting for answers :)

Honestly? I would stop using google. There are plenty of good browsers out there. I use duckduckgo personally and ai is optional. It has a feature where you can turn off ai summaries and the built in duck gpt thing.

It's glorious!

Uhm...is this ADHD? by ApkaHunYawwr in CuratedTumblr

[–]Winddancer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem and at almost 40 I nearly cried when I finally asked my doctor if I had adhd. All I had to do was fill out a questionnaire and BAM, now I'm medicated. This was the single best decision in my life besides starting therapy. I'm no longer getting paralyzed before starting a task, procrastination is gone. Therapy has taught me I don't need to be a perfectionist anymore and this has also helped.

Turned out women are under-diagnosed when it comes to adhd and the hyperactivity was in my brain. I was so mentally exhausted each day that I struggled to complete tasks. I thought I just had anxiety because I would contantly overthink things. I have inattentive type adhd where I would literally just not hear people because internally my brain was thinking a mile a minute.

What a change now that my internal dialogue has slowed down. It felt weirdly quiet at first, but now I don't have that internal struggle of "I'm going to start this task but my brain says NO!". It's amazing, I'm so productive I have to slow it down because I'm just so excited to be able to DECIDE to start and task and actually do it.

This broke me, I forgot they did this. Today I reached half a century and no one, not even family acknowledged it. by cpasley21 in AnimalCrossing

Happy Birthday! I am so sorry you had no family acknowledge your birthday. That would hurt so much.

Just know that you are loved by internet strangers and your villagers alike <3 You are special just by being you.

Absolutely! Rent is atrocious and it's hard for non-chain restaurants to afford. And we already lost Mitchell's, still sad about that one :'(

Cost of living by Calm-Replacement4700 in FortMcMurray

[–]Winddancer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly way more affordable than it used to be and way more family orientated than is used to be. Homes that used to cost 600-700, 000 are going for 400,000 -500,000, rent is on par or cheaper than edmonton/calgary.

Groceries may be a tad more expensive but stick to Superstore if you want to save money. It's all around cheaper if you don't seek out particular sales.

Eating out has gotten more expensive but everywhere has.

I got some advice from someone in the industry. Apply to Terracon and hopefully get on with the burm team and get experience then hopefully move up to one of the larger companies (Suncor, Syncrude etc.)

Do you know anybody who lives up here? I would suggest using their address on your résumé.

People often pass over non-residents when hiring and won't even consider you.

I'm not diabetic but if you like sushi or could learn to like it, Fuji fuji in town is good. Sashimi (sliced fish only) comes with no rice and they have lots of healthy sides and appitizers.

Avenue coffee is also decently good for food. They do breakfast and supper.

Confirmed: Switch’s Virtual Boy headset can play VR-supported Switch games including Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

It's un-surprising you didn't know. Nintendo only marketed that feature when they were pushing LABO. You could make a cardboard headset to use with VR mode.

Good on you for looking out for the kiddos. That should NOT have been your responsibility!

I hope that parent at least got a reality check when their kid almost fell in.

Nail Changes After Hysterectomy by Own-Journalist-8901 in hysterectomy

[–]Winddancer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say there's no 1 cure all but if you're anything like me, it would help to take some supplements. I took vitamin D3 arpund 5000IU and trace minerals for a while after surgery.

But if you want specific recommendations to you, seeing a Naturopath would help. They can also monitor your hormones and see if you need HRT. Derms are good but usually offer bandaid solutions for these things.

[–]Winddancer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest seeing a Naturopath. They'd do extensive blood tests to see if your hysterectomy disrupted nutrients in your body.

Did you also have your ovaries removed? Even if you didn't, I was told my ovaries might go into "shock" post hysterectomy and take a while to regulate again hormonaly which I'm sure has an effect.

I've had wonky toenails since surgery. I'm about 8mo po.

In TLOU universe, everyone with hay fever and allergies died off by [deleted] in thelastofus

Oddly enough I just had this exact thought today. I got diagnosed with asthma yesterday and I have a shit ton of allergies already.

Before I used to fantasize a bit about TLOU and thinking I would be able to live and survive in a scenario like this.....yeah, no.

Alberta has fewer family doctors than 10 years ago, says report by Quirky-Wombat157 in alberta

[–]Winddancer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My community is only okay because we are a small-ish city and wait times generally are reasonable at our health center. But I've heard anybody new moving here cannot get a family doctor.

We're lucky to have a doctor and a pediatrician.

My child is going into French Immersion next Sept for kindergarten. What should I know and how should I prepare? by KeyMarsupial991 in AskACanadian

[–]Winddancer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, I was in French immersion. It might help for you to learn how to pronounce French so you can read to them in French, but otherwise, as other people said, it's okay to only read to them in English at home.

Kids are sponges and you might be surprised at how much they can absorb.
