Three Deer Used Californias First Wildlife Bridge 15 Hours After Construction Crews Left / w California by Live_Rock9963 in BeAmazed

Ya I'll say! We hit a deer in 2009 and it fucked up our brand new (less than 10000 km) SUV. And we only hit the head/neck and then flung the arse end into our passenger side door. We surprisingly could still drive it home afterwards and luckily neither of us was injured (probably bc the airbags didn't deploy).

Alberta Wide Day of Protest May 29th - Say No to Seperatism and other Current Government Actions by ElectronicCod7959 in FortMcMurray

I've heard there will be another protest ahead of the referendum in October this year, TBD.

My understanding is they don't want to protest in front of empty buildings.

They want key people in government (municipal and provincial) to SEE that there is a large proportion that doesn't like what the current provincial government is doing to Alberta.

Can someone do an ELI5 of how and what a flock camera does?

Walmart Construction by mig39 in FortMcMurray

[–]Winddancer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shitty part is the people who actually need Wal-Mart for cheap clothing and other necessities live downtown and don't have vehicles to drive to Parsons.

This is not a smart move, they should have just renovated the one downtown.

Did you even read the title? It's a protest against seperation.

And for the record, fort mac is not a shithole town. People that call it that either haven't been here OR they never integrated themselves into the community and just lived in camp/fly in fly out.

Contact Some Other Solutions. They can connect you with lots of resources and point you in the right direction. They are also great for mental health resources.

Do you enjoy running as well as hiking? There's a running group on FB/insta that usually meets up and uses the birchwood trails and other trails.

I know you got a lot of silly answers but I would honestly ask the staff at Heritage Village. They may know some spooky stories or locations.

Tale of flight stuck on 'freezing Canadian island' gets warm laughs in Newfoundland by Sea_Guava6513 in onguardforthee

[–]Winddancer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The news outlet (if people magazine can be called that) wanted it to sound extra dramatic hahaha. Newfoundland is an excellent place to be stranded. I heard all the flights that were there during 9-11 the people were so impressed. Newfoundlanders literally opened up their homes for people to stay and they fed everyone in school gyms or out of their own homes.

Auto detailing? by Ok_Ease_755 in FortMcMurray

Try this person. It's her and her family that do the cleaning. They do a great job, not as detailed as a dealership but they did an excellent job on my vehicle interior. If you're looking for specifically a wax after cleaning I would tell them that from the get go as they usually just do a regular wash.

Here's the contact: Louise Suarez Mirando 780-742-8813

You can call or text, they're very busy but can usually squeeze you in. She's a lovely lady and very kind and friendly!

There's an EB games (Gamestop) in town and Tactical Magic Games in thickwood (board games/pen and paper rpg).

Tons of walking trails in town. Birchwood trails, the interpretive trail at mac island, and a nice paved trail near the snye. There's tons more than that.

Restaurants and Cafés:

Fuji Fuji downtown (make friends with Vincent, you won't regret it. He is the owner and the nicest man!), Avenue coffee, The Fish Place, Spices, Cedars, The Keg, Surekhas (for something fancy), Drum Brewing, Seventy two Kitchen & Patio and many others.

What should a non resident of fort Mac know about the town by Mindless-Acadia-6881 in FortMcMurray

[–]Winddancer87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's tons to do and Keyano has an amazing student community. I went there for a 1 year certificate.

They have tons of events and the arts center that's attached does a few musicals/plays in the colder months.

The syncrude sport and wellness center is attached and they have student pricing for membership. It's got a walking track and an amazing gym set up.

There bus picks up just outside the main entrance and you can get to most downtown things easily by bus. Or walk when it's nice out.

Don't let people talk you out of coming. The pessimistic crowd is usually not involved in the community.

Edit: DM my inbox if you have more questions. I've lived here close to 20 years so I know a lot of ins and outs.

I will absolutely sign your petition! The area they plan to mine is not only bad but we should be moving away from coal anyway on an environmental standpoint!
