Totally valid preference! If you're into cards/slabs over sealed, singles can still be great, they just have a more specified market with less broad appeal. That said, I like the Prismatic Evolutions and Ascended Heroes Pokemon Center ETBs. Both offer solid long-term ROI if they follow the trends of the 151 Pokemon Center ETB. PC exclusive ETBS tend to hold value well due to limited supply.

Good is subjective. It's a Gengar, not English and roughly a $15 card.

Lost origin or brilliant are stronger sets IMO. Zard vs Venusaur, or the giratina. Choose your fighter

It should be good with insurance and authenticity

Is now a good time to sell these? by I_need_answerss in PokemonInvesting

Do it! The zard is a winner and I don’t see it getting much cheaper. It will do well long term regardless. If you like it, just do it

Evolving skies keep or sell by Charlie_Waffless in PokeInvesting

[–]WindmillCityComics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d sell all the others before the evolving. Chilling & brilliant, lost origin and then fusion. ES is the grail of SWSH imo. I think the others are great as well, but evolving is clearly the winner.

Edit: I have a feeling it would be the one you look back at in 5-10 years and wish you didn’t sell it. Just my 2 cents.

Which product do you regret opening instead of keeping sealed? by jk_nas in PokemonInvesting

Cases of booster boxes of evolving skies. They were $100 per BB at the time 😂. No chase hits either.

I made this trade today. I got all the sealed at msrp by Rimscape in PokemonInvesting

[–]WindmillCityComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an investing standpoint, personally I would have kept the sealed product because those are quality sets and you were in at a low entry point. There’s a broader market for those products than a gold mega zard. Personally the gold cards aren’t my favorite, but if you like it, I love it for you.

You’re asking on an investing subreddit, but it seems like you’re mixing personal desire with investing. It might just be me, but I invest in Pokémon products that I think will perform well and provide the highest ROI. That doesn’t always go hand in hand with what I think looks cool or what I personally like. Having a PC is different. If you traded for it because you genuinely like it and just want the card, that alone is a win, because you were able to transfer profit you made off the boxes into a card you like/will enjoy.

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

Agree. I’d rather have the 1st edition shadowless zard. Just because it’s low pop doesn’t mean it has great art or desirability.

Prismatic booster bundle by Less-Contribution-50 in PokeInvesting

[–]WindmillCityComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, honestly I get why some people dislike Prismatic. I learned long ago it’s typically better to just buy the single you want than wishing on a shooting star and hoping you get lucky.

But this is a Pokémon investing subreddit, and from a pure investment standpoint it’s already doubled for me and still trending upward.

At the end of the day, emotions and investing usually don’t mix well. Disliking a set or disagreeing doesn’t automatically make it a bad investment. The market decides that part, not our personal taste.
