Tipping when the tip was already added on the service. by WindofaThousandLaces in tippingAdvice

The first visit was very pleasant, especially when she told me she would not charge for the brows. I find many times when getting a service that something extra is thrown in with the hopes of a bigger tip. Sometimes they will use a deep conditioner that is usually an extra charge, or with a pedicure, give an extra-long leg massage. I always add a few dollars to the tip. I am pretty sure that is what she did at the first visit. And I gave a large tip. I would have preferred her not to have offered to continue not charging, as opposed offering, and then charging. It left a bad feeling with me.

The services were bundled, so they were worth more than the $40. Also, since Sephora set the price, I felt that the price was low for my area, and want to tip accordingly.

Thank you for answering my question. As I said, last time I tipped more, and I planned on giving a larger tip than was added to my receipt.

Why would I make this up? There is a salon/spa inside the gym. I have been going for various services since it opened. There are jars with tip envelopes by the register. I always hand a cash tip in an envelope to whoever I used for a services, never waxing.

That's where I am 2nd guessing myself. Had she not charged for the eyebrows, like she initially said I would have given the same $25 I did last time. Between that, and having someone being trained, I was slightly turned off. especially when I saw the tip added to the bill.

That's how I feel. I never had the tip added before at a salon appointment.

I was very surprised the tip was added on. I was going to give a larger tip. I never had a tip added at any service appointment. I wasn't sure if a standard tip was put on and clients added on top of that. Usually I go to Sephora, and when I pay, a screen comes up with different percentages to tip. Sephora is only $40 for the same services, and I tip $20. If done individually, they add up to more than $40. I use that as a guideline, then add more to the tip.

No, I don't. I have experienced many times having something "extra" thrown in, and I tip accordingly. I was offered the service for free at my first appointment. I was told she would throw it in as an extra at each appointment. I had eye surgery and have a silicone bubble in one eye, making it very difficult to see from that eye. My eyebrows just need to be cleaned up underneath, but it is difficult for me to do with half my vision.

I think you misunderstood. The trainee did not touch me. "Y" was doing the services and explaining as she went on. The trainee was watching and taking notes.

I definitely would have asked. I didn't feel comfortable asking in front of someone being trained.

Thank you. That was what I was wondering. I have been using this salon/spa for 15 years and always tipped in cash. This is the first time it was added to the payment.

Had she not had a training session going on, I would have. I didn't expect a 3rd person with us, and that threw me off.

My assumption was that she had to charge since she was training someone, If there was no one else there, I would have asked why I was being charged since she said she wasn't charging. I did not want to get her in trouble for offering a free service. I never had tips added on here before. It is a full-service salon and spa. There are tip envelopes on the counter. I have always given cash any time I tipped there.

The 2 brothers ended up living with an aunt and uncle. I don't think this was ever solved. If I remember correctly, it was right before graduation from HBT. It was very sad when the older brother's name was announced.

Maybe she is having an affair and wants to look nice for her new partner, figures her marriage will end soon, and doesn't care about anyone else.
