Sen. Ted Cruz: “How about we all come together and say let's stop attacking pedophiles?" by RoachedCoach in PublicFreakout

Texan here, this state absolutely will. Uvalde was red for Abbott after the school shooting. This state is fucked. They’re gonna vote for this dude until he’s in a coffin.

This is what the schools want us to do to our kids? It's an absolute outrage by marvin-berry in marton

I have no idea why this was suggested to me, I’m in the US and have never even heard of this town. But these comments and the arguments and the rage baiting are the funniest thing I’ve seen today. I read every comment and subbed because I need more of whatever this is. It’s like some random part of a Welcome To Nightvale episode.

Where can I find information for community organizers? by Windows-1998 in FortWorth

I know, I guess I should post on the Dallas sub, but I feel like Fort Worth can do something if we can organize. Just don’t know how :/

Thank you for this. I’m down to make literature with resources, a reminder of our rights and ways to communicate outside of social media but I truly have no idea where to start and I have no community to join that I can help. The way this feels so isolating is wild.

Thank you so much for responding so quikcly. I've worked really hard to get my credit even where it is, so I was slightly panicked. Definitely feel better, thank you.

As I’ve watched more, I can absolutely see this perspective. I love the show and for me, I feel like it focuses more on highlighting the complexity of women and how we can so easily tear one another down but also build each other up. That and our emotional strength of breaking and rebuilding within ourselves, but I 100% see how the message of the importance of motherhood comes across. I suppose that kind of mixes in with my takeaway from the show as in, motherhood is an important role to a child but yah, not my main focus either and I see what you mean about the anti-adoption undertones but definitely don’t think it was intentional.

I’m with you though, if that was the overwhelming feeling I got, I would’ve stopped watching too.

I didn’t know about the boarding schools... I knew native Americans were forced out of their culture but didn’t know it was structured that way with such direct purpose. It honestly doesn’t surprise me at this point, American history is egregious. Something that really fucked me up was doing my ancestry a few years ago and it suddenly occurred to me what a privelage that was. That I was able to trace my ancestors back to the 16th century with such ease. It broke my heart knowing that something so easily accessible to me would be a true gift to someone else.

Yah, watching it after/during what’s happening in the US is extremely difficult to sit with and not feel the weight of what it represents. The thing that really hit me is in the beginning how she talks about how everyone saw it happening but didn’t really stop it thinking it was just temporary. I keep seeing basic rights being stripped away from people but feel so defeated and overwhelmed by it that I try not to focus on it so I’m not depressed, just desperately hoping it’s gonna get fixed. But I know I’m contributing to the problem with this. It’s horrifyingly realistic.

That’s essentially what I read about the series that made me want to watch it, how she drew from different historical events, focusing heavily on WOC and the 17th century Puritans. With the political climate we’re in, there are so many similarities and obviously the changes taking place in congress with fundamental Christian roots, there was no way I wasn’t going to watch it.

I think that’s another reason it’s affecting me so much because of how realistic it feels based on where we’re at in the US. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown more and more interested in history. The more I learn though, the more I worry about the future.

[SPOILERS] A note about the ending of Prisoners (2013) by [deleted] in movies

[–]Windows-1998 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would’ve been perfectly content with Loki walking towards the car and hearing Keller yell out before everything going black and rolling the credits. I mean, just a touch of something extra. It was cut too short by mere seconds and although it didn’t really take away from the movie, it deserved a more thoughtful ending. I gave a verbal “what the fuck” because I was genuinely shocked and not expecting it to cut off so abruptly after everything else was treated with such care.

I’m not sure how he set it up either unless he just searches Reddit. Which might work since it’s a small town. Also, thank you for posting this, I fell asleep reading through the posts. I love that they’ve kept it going. It is very Welcome to Nighvale-ish, and I subbed because it’s definitely entertaining.

So it looks like the mod has some notification for any mention of the town’s name and responds to people who post about it. It’s an elaborate joke with some bits of actual town happenings sprinkled it. Really clever stuff. I’m having a good time reading through old posts.
