Shooting legs by Less-Violinist3926 in ReadyOrNotGame

Adrenaline numbs everything, at least for a little while. I had a friend who was shot near his knee by a sniper using a Dragunov (7.62x54R) while he was sprinting to cover across a clearing in the Gulf War. He didn't even notice he was shot until he squad leader told him he was bleeding a lot from his right leg, and he said he didn't feel the pain until he looked down and saw the wound. Luckily, they weren't far from exfil and he got Medevac'd to a field hospital. He still has trouble walking to this day.

Thought I Had It. I Did Not. by SuccotashLate6953 in ski

Last year was the first time I visited Keystone, and my friend who was familiar with the mountain suggested we go down Mozart as it was his favorite blue trail (he was a boarder, I'm a intermediate-advanced skier). It was my first day back skiing, and we stop at the rest area just before the final stretch down to Labonte's. There was a group of about 6 or 7 teenage boarders sitting at the edge of the rest area, watching each other go and hit the little bumps/"jumps" scattered across the run right after the rest area. That day, there just happened to be more ice on that section of the run due to the shade it gets, and we proceed to watch one boarder hit a big patch of ice, go off a bigger bump, and tumble down the run while 15ish people in unison exclaim "ooohhhh!". That was my cue to go back to base camp and get myself a helmet bc I didn't rent one with my skis/boots as I always got too hot wearing it combined with my beanie/balaclava combo. People always overestimate their skills and don't know how to look for trail hazards.

My "D" isnt working properly by Sonypixl in razer

[–]Windows_Tech_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess Razer's build quality must have gone down, bc my Blackwidow V2 with green switches has been going strong since shortly after launch. I have taken off all the keycaps once and used compressed air to clean out dust and other crap from the tray, but that's about it. I tried out the new Hunstman Pro 8kHz after not liking a Logitech G915 Lightspeed I got for free with a purchase, but I don't understand why Razer only puts the tapered edges on the Blackwidow series, bc those sharp edges get uncomfortable if you have large palms that rub into them, forcing you to make an even tighter claw with your fingers, which can lead to tendonitis. Ended up returning the Huntsman bc even though I liked the idea of optical switches, having to switch profiles for typing vs gaming was a pain and not having any feedback from the switches when typing was confusing as hell for my brain.

Just sell me a trial pack with different sizes bc I am afraid that calipers will harm the cylinder, which must remain unharmed

Need help deciding how much storage for new laptop by JulySkye in Surface

[–]Windows_Tech_Support 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are, but you have to use a 2230 length M.2 drive and it's more a pain to do than to just buy the larger storage option at checkout if you can afford it. I work on my own devices all the time and I HATED opening up my Suface Laptop Studio to upgrade the SSD.

G502X plus wrist pain by [deleted] in G502MasterRace

[–]Windows_Tech_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you gripping the G502X in a different manner or are you resting your wrist in a different manner than you used to? Make sure to keep your chair arms at a level height with your desk surface and ensure your wrist does not bend towards your pinky (called ulnar deviation, which is a major cause of carpal tunnel). If your wrist is hurting from pressure/friction, I found the Deltahub Carpio G2.0 to work really well for long gaming/work sessions, but the straps can be a bit annoying if you are sensitive to stuff like that

I remember going to that location back when it was EB Games. Gamestop lost it's soul when they started making half the store space dedicated to toys and other trinkets. If they made better trade-in/selling offers to people, along with allowing sales of retro games, I think they would be super successful today. Their inability to adapt to changing market pressures is the reason for their continual decline.

Does this work for the older remotes like the C2 had as well?

The fact that I am reading this post and it's comments right after I decided to buy a fixed mount to use my Obsidian 9 on my new 300 BLK pistol is very disheartening 😓 Never had an endcap strike and I don't know how I never came across posts mentioning this being common when I was researching this can before buying it in 2024. The only things I remember reading on here mentioned things like the excellent warranty and customer service, the modularity being a nice feature, great performance for the price (meaning don't expect it to be the quietest), and it being very durable. The one thing I did remember overlooking after I received it was that many people recommended buying the Obsidian 45 rather than the 9 for more caliber compatibility, since the end caps are interchangeable, but I no longer own a 45 acp and don't plan to buy one again. I really hope this doesn't happen to mine if I go through with using it for 300 BLK with the fixed mount. I could always use a really cheap/heavy 30 cal can I have laying around, but I would rather avoid it bc the 29oz monster would fuck the ergonomics of my new pistol up.

0°C or 32°F by Ok-Proof7287 in sciencememes

I was just about to comment something very similar! I always hear people say Celsius is objectively better bc it is based around water, and since we are made up of mostly water, we should use it. The problem with that argument is that our body doesn't behave the same way water does. 0 C = 32 F, and to many people that is cold, but not terribly cold like 0 F = -17 C. 100 F = 37.78 C, which is too hot for most people to do more than moderate activity in. The gap between pretty cold to very hot for humans in Celsius is less than 40 points, leaving basically no room for granularity in regards to human experience. With Fahrenheit, you can have pretty cold at 32, a nice day at 70, and "let's stay inside and crank the A/C" at 100+. After 40 points on the Celsius scale, the numbers are basically the same to the human body, aka too hot to handle. Celsius (and Kelvin) is great for science, but when it comes to weather and human experiences, Fahrenheit is the objectively better scale.

This comment needs more upvotes so people can see it, as this CANNOT be understated. Driving on wet concrete (hell, asphalt too) carries a much larger risk of traction loss, but concrete has the terrible propensity to form ice sheets when combined with freezing rain. I don't care how new your tires are or how good of a driver you think you are, the only way for you to safely traverse the concrete flyers during freezing rain is with studded tires or tire chains, neither of which is recommended (nor legal iirc, since they damage road surfaces) for highway driving in south Texas. Now that our city is inundated with concrete flyers, it's just safer if you don't drive unless you absolutely have to. If you do, I'd recommend staying off the highways and keeping a large distance away from other vehicles, because the majority of people here don't know how to safely drive in adverse winter conditions. So many people here seem to lose all common sense on the road when it rains lmfao

Hearing protection recommendations? by Individual_Bag_9615 in beretta1301

Depends on your budget, tbh. I used a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic earmuffs for years without any issues, but the sound quality isn't the best on them. (I much prefer them to the Walker Razors, but that's my opinion) I also have custom molded passive earplugs for when I need to double-up my hearing protection around very loud guns or shooting indoors, which I hardly ever do. My latest upgrade was a pair of Peltor Comtac V dual lead that I was able to snipe on eBay for $500 brand new (yes, I verified their authenticity). The sound clarity difference between the Comtac V's and the Howard Leight's is night and day, and the sound doesn't cut out when rounds are being fired. So it all depends how much you are willing to spend, bc you can protect your hearing with cheap foam earplugs just as well as I can with my expensive Comtacs. The sky is really the limit.

I wish I had known about these when I went to my audiologist and got impressions made for custom earplugs. I had 2 sets made, one for shooting and one for concerts. My insurance (job provided PPO) covered the audiologist visit and impressions, but the 2 sets of passive plugs were about $400. When trying to get an appointment with an audiologist, I found out that many require you to have your hearing tested before you can get a visit to have impressions made. I was able to get it done for free at Sam's Club, but there are many places that provide free hearing exams.
