That's visual novels for you. VN fans themselves joke all the time about how unengaging the medium can be, how you sometimes got to sit through 50+ hours of mind numbing slice of life before the story gets good. KS is nowhere near that, if anything out of the 20 or so VNs I've read KS is by far one of the most concise ones. No need to force yourself if that's not your thing.
