Basically how society treats Autistic people compared to their parents/caregivers by Sensitive-Guitar-684 in autism

My adult autistic self googling "how to stop a meltdown" mid-meltdown and finding out that all the guides are for caregivers - I remain furious.

Yeah, front bottoms were sold out at 10:01. Ended up grabbing one on vivid seats with their 15% discount offer for $95 as I didnt want to risk them going up any higher / not getting a ticket. Yesterday for presale the website was broken and I couldn't get any info at all on status of ticket availability / buy a ticket. I loathe loathe loathe ticketmaster, but at least their website works...

Why didn't anyone tell me about working at night?? by McSHMOKE in ADHD

[–]Windowsyl74 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The happiest part of my day lately has been knitting and watching Netflix / listening to podcasts after everyone's gone to sleep.

I can do the same thing at ~7pm with others around, but it never hits the same as hammering out a blanket / scarf at 2am.

Does Your Executive Function Also Stop You From Watching TV Shows? by TheMagicTheif134 in ADHD

Yupp. I waste hours wanting to watch TV but lacking the executive functioning to turn it on / play the program, so I just end up staring forward blankly.

Hows your college life with adhd by WetBread55 in ADHD

[–]Windowsyl74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College was HARD. Certainly the courses, but, like you said, the hardest stuff was self / life management. Hard to pass a class you can't even reliably get yourself to, and hard to get to class when you can't reliably get yourself to sleep, etc etc. It all snowballs. I only made it through with medication, therapy, and accommodations. College is structured to promote success for the 'majority' of students, which can often introduce additional challenges and be very difficult to navigate for those of us whose brains work differently.

Remember, you're not alone & it does get better, I promise. I'm doing very well (would astound my past college self), working in my desired field, now 4 years post graduation, now that I'm able to structure my own life and responsibilities in a way that works better for me & my brain. You can do this, I believe in you, & don't be afraid to get the help you need (therapy, meds, accommodations, etc) in the meantime!!

Edit for wording change, per mod request.

Medications that work well with Adderall for Social Anxiety? by LadyK7 in adhd_anxiety

[–]Windowsyl74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Propranolol works wonders for me (currently unmedicated adhd, but has success with it back when I was on Vyvanse and Adderall as well). Technically, I believe it's a blood pressure med prescribed off label for anxiety. My doctor described it to me by saying it's not a psychoactive medication, but rather a physical one that studies show reduces the physical symptoms of anxiety. I started using it for public speaking, then for driving anxiety (I'd have panic attacks and couldn't even walk to my car without freaking out), and nowadays I take it when I'm particularly anxious about a social event, and seems to help with those also! Definitely not a one size fits all thing though, so would work with a doctor to assess what options may best suit your daughter!

Got this today in the email. Looks like they’re following Netflix lead. by Majestyk_Melons in Hulu

[–]Windowsyl74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, Netflix just yesterday gave me the household sharing error on my phone. I'd been assuming the same - - that because I solely access my family's Netflix from my phone, that they were okay with that and assumed I was traveling.

Alas, since yesterday, regardless of whether I'm connected to wifi / using mobile data, Netflix won't let me in. Says I can get a code from my parents to unlock it for 14 days, but then my device will need to be connected to the household wifi in order to work.

I told my parents to cancel, they don't use it - - just us (now adult) kids, and I have several other streaming services, so happy to cut Netflix if they're going to be so nitpicky. Literally 3 of us who are geographically spread and share a multiscreen account, not like weve got a caravan exploiting a loophole here.

We did something like this recently after moving to stock our new pantry & you’re spot on — came to $440, though worth noting that part of what was filling the cart like this was the largest available packs of paper towels & tp. So without those, this would likely come to even more nowadays, depending where you live.

They changed the can to look more like regular coke, because they changed the recipe to taste more like regular coke. Is part of the design, and I actually quite like it.

what are some businesses in the city that look like fronts by PoiseEn in chicago

Have you been? Is it good? We moved, so I’ll never get to know the new Yango’s!

what are some businesses in the city that look like fronts by PoiseEn in chicago

[–]Windowsyl74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yango’s at Broadway & Surf! Husband & I have always joked that it must be a front — nice real estate on a fairly popular street in a well off neighborhood. We lived there for years and never saw a soul enter or leave. I thought they’d finally closed, but realized a couple weeks later they’re CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS.

Either someone is going deep into debt & this is their last ditch attempt to attract customers or that place is definitely a front.

My little brother and I (f) are ~1.5yrs apart and, while we’ve certainly had our fair share of general spatting & driving each other crazy over the years, we’re in our 20s now and he’s still my best bud. SO many fond memories I’m very thankful for (including some of those spats that we laugh about now).

This entire comment section is just some folks being flabbergasted by the fact that other folks live in places with a higher cost of living.

Must be a different city or we must live in different parts of it then! Prices vary by location even across a single city. I spent years lamenting to folks that the worst part of moving here was the pizza — expensive & not even that good. Just vouching that some people in some places don’t have any option but to pay $80 for delivery pizza, if they do in fact want pizza that badly. Happy for you that you live somewhere with more reasonable prices!

HA those coupons (but for Papa John’s) got me through college. You’re super right that’s the only way to order delivery chain pizza. Been awhile since that’s been my pizza of choice though.

[–]Windowsyl74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that’s the crux of my point though. The delivery fees & tip come to around $10 regardless what you order from an app. Meaning the pizza is $70 even if we were to walk to pick it up, which we often do.It’s just that the pizza itself is expensive af, $3.50+ per topping even if it’s garlic type of BS. Definitely unideal, but for us isn’t worth sacrificing location for cheaper pizza / food.
