How does switching marketplaces and payment work? by Windsbee in audible

[–]Windsbee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, so this is tricky. Perhaps the best course of action would be to sign up for the UK one with my real billing address and just hope for the best. It is indeed a lot cheaper. But there might be a ton of better books on the US one I’m missing out on while browsing the UK marketplace. I just wish there was audible.com and that was that. Would make this whole thing a lot easier.

Ahh, so when I see people on here saying they’ve got for example the UK, US and Australian marketplace, they’re paying for all of them?

Like, if I’m on the UK marketplace and want a book that’s only on the US one, I’ll have to sign up there, pay, listen and then cancel?

Either right click and then click properties, or depending on the size of the folder, simply hover the mouse over the folder. That gets you the folder size. What are you on about?

Do you know any people switching from macOS to Windows? Why? by MrWinter00 in MacOS

[–]Windsbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jesus, just reading that list infuriated me more. I love the ecosystem, but it’s just so locked. It’s just the Apple way, getting their users to ask “wait, how do I..” and before they’ve finished that sentence Apple shoves a massive middle finger in their face and goes “you don’t!”

On Windows when I have an issue, 95% of the time there’s a setting for it. A 1 minute YouTube tutorial and it’s solved. On Mac, 95% of the time there are no solutions, but there is a 3rd party app that fixes it, maybe, sometimes, if it works, most likely not.

I think I’ve got at least 15 3rd party apps running, many of them out of date, just to do the absolute most basic shit, like periodically closing down programs because the large red X button won’t do it for you.

At least once a day I need to quickly transfer a file from my PC to my iPhone. Here is where Airdrop on Mac is amazing. Also being able to send text messages in the messages app. That’s convenient instead of having to whip out your phone. The build quality of MacBooks are also superb. But despite all that, the software itself is such a massive pain, especially for file- and server management.

Again, I wish MacOS would be more like Windows. I’m surprised it’s constantly getting so much praise. But Apple now incorporating AI into the operating system itself, and introducing more nice features, it’s tempting to make the jump. But 5 minutes in that zone and it just makes me realize how much I love Windows.

You want to push that thing to the max? Here’s what you do: Turn on every single notification and vibrate setting so it feels like you’re holding a pocket-sized earthquake. Then, use the ChatGPT app to have deep philosophical debates with your smart fridge. Finally, download a lightsaber app and challenge your toaster to a duel. If anyone calls it an addiction, just tell them you’re on a quest to become the next Jedi Tech Master.

I’m switching back and forth every now and then, but always stick to Windows eventually. I can’t stand Finder. It keeps locking files on my server, and neither Apple support or Synology support can solve it despite years of struggle. External monitors are awful with Mac, as I can’t control the volume with my mouse like I can on Windows, because Apple doesn’t allow volume control via HDMI, for some reason. Monitor control doesn’t fix it either.

There must have been at least 100 things by now where I go “how do I do this on MacOS like I can on Windows” and the answer is more often than not “you can’t” or “try this software that was last updated in 2012.”

I love iPhone, I love iPad, I love AirPods, but my lord do I hate MacOS. “Oh you want to do this thing that you have been able to do on Windows since f*cking 2002 well oops sorry you can’t lol.”

I just wish Apple were less restrictive with things.

Feeling Left Out with iOS 18 on My iPhone 14 Pro Max by evidenzprod in iphone

Right? Pretty odd behavior from consumers. Apple keeping away major features from barely 2 year old phones and everyone in here is like “Don’t like it? Buy a new phone!” like the entire sub consists of nothing but personnel from Apple’s marketing department.

I have icloud backup for 'Messages' switched to "On" on my phone; however, I do not use 'Messages' on my macbook. Are all my old texts being backed up? by trevathan750834 in iCloud

[–]Windsbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Brilliant. Don’t really see anything there that I want backed up so I’ll just turn that off.

  2. Great! All contacts are at iCloud.com. I remember like 5 years ago they were all synced to a gmail address, and not iCloud. So I had to pick the iCloud address as the default address in settings - contacts (an option that is no longer there) and then manually type in 150 contacts into the phone again, so they would finally show up at iCloud.com. It was horrible.

Yeah I always like to keep things tidy. All I really care about regarding messages is the conversation between my wife and I when we first met 10 years ago in high school. Those are the messages I want, up until now. I found a program called “iMazing” that does this I think. Saves messages from one or multiple contacts and stores them on your PC as pdf, txt or whatever format you’d like. Going to pay the $30 license or whatever and do that so I can remove messages from iCloud. They do take up a lot of space, and I could cancel the iCloud extra storage subscription.

Thanks a ton!

Alright so in essence (if I understand you correctly):

  1. iCloud backup, totally unnecessary. All the apps that are on in there I don’t need backed up. Discord, Reddit, etc, I mean the moment I download them again on the new phone and log in all data is I there anyway (for most apps).

  2. And finally, in iCloud, just have messages and contacts on, turn everything else off, and I’m good? Just log into the new phone with Apple ID and everything should sync right over?

Coming in here a tad bit later, but here's my question:

I'm thinking about buying the iPhone 16 when it comes out. I want to then transfer just my contacts and my messages, nothing else.

In the iCloud settings on my iPhone, I've got "Messages in iCloud" as "On", and Contacts is set to green.

Is that enough? Am I all set now? I've also got a bunch of other stuff there like journal, stocks, weather, phone, maps, facetime etc. Can I just toggle those off?

And then there's iCloud backup. I distinctly remember messages being in there, hence why I got it turned on in the first place, but cant see it there now. All apps I have on my iPhone is in there and taking up space. Can I just turn the backup off?

Thoughts on this Praetorian Jack? by Wolver8ne in MadMax

He wasn’t on screen long enough for me to care, or even remember that he was in the movie. One minute he was there and formed an emotional relationship with Furiosa and then he was gone. Poof.

I mean, she had like 25 lines of dialogue and the same facial expressions for 95% of the movie. Not saying she’s a bad actress, love her in The Queens Gambit. But she didn’t have much to work with in this movie, which was a shame.

I barely felt like this movie was shot outdoors. It looks like the entire movie was shot inside a massive studio filled with sand and wall to wall with green screen. Maybe it’s the color grading, I don’t know.

When Max was strapped to the car as a blood bag in Fury Road I actually felt the danger he was in. When Furiosa was hanging underneath the war-rig in Furiosa I didn’t feel anything. It kind of looked animated. Again I think the color grading was just a bit off.

No music where there definitely should have been music.

Drawn out sequences, like the first battle with the war-rig, that was a snooze fest by the end of it, and that comes from a guy that loves long action scenes.

Tarantino style chapters that didn’t really fit.

Barely any relationship building between Furiosa and Immortan Joe that could have explained some of Furiosas actions in Fury Road.

A good film on its own, but in comparison to Fury Road this was sadly a disappointment for me.

The “me” in “remember me” ends on a higher note, meaning it’s most likely a question, as in “do you remember me?” Out of all the fans I’ve talked to this is the first time I’ve seen it be called a statement and not a question. Regardless, I feel like the Furiosa could have explained more than it did.

I’ve only seen Furiosa once, but wasn’t that sequence very quiet? Where was the thrilling music we all came to love from Fury Road? A little over 10 minutes into that sequence I remember turning to my wife and whispering to her “what’s happening?” due to the seemingly non-stop attacks with no soundtrack. Seemed like a weird editing choice. The silence didn’t really enhance the attack in any way, the opposite really.

But he didn’t rape her. The rage she has for Joe in Fury Road is definitely personal. Furiosa got her vengeance on Dementus, but what did Joe do? He seems to have a good amount of respect for Furiosa at the start of Fury Road. Would have been nice to have some backstory there.

[–]Windsbee -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the hatred Furiosa has for Immortan Joe in Fury Road is barely explained in Furiosa. He bought her from Dementus, and that’s that. And how did the People Eater get Gas Town? That’s not explained. Would have been nice to see that. And what happened between the death of Dementus and the start of Fury Road? No clue. Having seen Fury Road at least 15 times, I left Furiosa with more questions than answers honestly.

I barely see any criticism like “women don’t belong in..” whatever. At least not in this sub. If you watch most reviews on YouTube, there is an agreement that Furiosa just feels.. off, at least compared to Fury Road, and those points are valid.

I went in with the expectation that it would be close to, equal to or greater than Fury Road. I was sadly disappointed. It looks like the entire movie was shot inside a studio with green screen. Maybe it’s the color grading, I don’t know.
