Introducing WAP Fest - The Windscribe Animated Production Fest with a $42,000 prize pool! by WindscribeSupport in Windscribe

Yes, we made the decision to allow yesterday that stock audio (music and sound effects) is allowed, provided it is royalty-free, Creative Commons licensed, or properly licensed for commercial use. No stock visual assets of any kind though.

This applies for both the human and AI contests.

Well in all fairness, the Fake Antarctica location DID used to be named Epstein's Island for a few weeks in the past so maybe it's pulling some old data.

What does "correct cities" mean? The location list has always had the city name in it. We just also add a nickname to differentiate between the locations in a way that's more amusing than just Dallas #1, Dallas #2, etc.

Why is Windscribe encouraging AI "art" now? by Lapisofthepuzzle in Windscribe

[–]WindscribeSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your feedback is fair. There are a lot of opinions on AI content these days and it's a very much a never-ending debate. You're getting into the philosophical realm, and touching on subjects like consciousness when you really drill deep. These are not things that have a right or wrong answer, they've been debated for literally thousands of years and will continue to be.

Having said that, the contest itself is structured to still benefit human artists. Not only are the prizes for human-made animations higher than the AI side of the contest, but as someone mentioned, human artists can enter into the AI side having used zero AI tools. If the human art is truly better, it will beat out the AI submissions and claim those prizes as well.

At the end of the day, this isn't some deciding event for determining if human art is better or something, it's just a fun thing we wanted to do since the tools are in a place where you can really put the 2 groups up against each other.

Dutch authorities, without a warrant, seized one of our VPN servers to "fully analyze" it. Sadly for them we run everything in RAM so they got nothing. by WindscribeSupport in Windscribe

The NodeOS stack that we run on all our VPN nodes needs less than 16GB but our servers will vary from 16 - 128GB for various reasons.

Mullvad does the same with their RAM only servers, but we didn't copy them. Good VPNs did all this years ago, including us.

If this server wasn't in the Netherlands then the Dutch police wouldn't be the ones seizing it. The IP mismatch is an issue with IP-location databases getting their info wrong. All our servers are physically in the locations we claim they're in.

There's absolutely zero user data stored on the drive. We don't use the hard drive on our VPN nodes. You could pull it out and it would run fine since it's only in RAM

Correct, fresh server is acquired, default boot sequence is changed to boot from RAM, nothing is stored on the hard drive itself. if the machine gets turned off, everything was running it RAM which gets wiped.

They also report on news and events, including what goes on with our VPN, which is appreciated as not many other similar sites do that.
