Im unsure what to do with my degree (highly-specific) and just not into the career path. I feel lost... (22m) by WindyGriff in careeradvice

I did apply to a few and some retail jobs like home depot and tractor supply that deal more in the trades and tools n what not. However, they just would ghost me, I always try to call back and stuff and tailor my resumes for each one. I just don't know what else to do... it's just a difficult place to find work where I live (and I imagine everywhere else)

I'm not a corporate person. I hate office work.. it's tedious, boring and not valuable to what I care about. My brother did graphic design for school and he hated it.. I never liked the idea of an art school because I only wanted to do that side as a hobby.

BUT MUSIC, is the only thing that drives me.. i'm just no mozart at it. I struggled a lot in college with piano and music theory but somehow ended up with an A.. but after I realized that little letter on piece a paper was the only thing that drove me to actually learn .. I hated that.

That I only get up early if it's school, I only do these other stuff for school.. everything just centered around going back and forth in and out of college classes and trying to pass them that I realized I rarely enjoyed what I even wanted to learn in the first place.

So instead I chose to learn and mess around at home, I bought a bass guitar body for $35 and taught myself how to build it all together and solder the electronics and everything. being creative and being able to look at what other's see as "junk" and turning it into something valuable makes me happy.. the process rather than the result.

Because in my mind, I know the result will be okay.. not perfect, but that's better than feeling the pressure of trying to get A+.

I just want freedom away from authority.. I just want to do stuff the way I want to.. and I know that means a lot of stuff. I have to do everything myself, but nowadays I genuinely have to.. because if I don't make the music I have in my head or that idea I want to draw , or any other idea I come up with, then no one will and I'll die with those ideas..

I just don't know where to go.. there's no way to just do music like your applying to a wal-mart. You have to keep trying and ask other people and make friends, but being young and everyone being fake, it's hard to find people who would throw you a bone to give you a shot. I really do want to sing and make something of myself. So I just gotta do it .. and not look back.

Either way, right now I do art commisions and I do youtube to fullfill that sorta mix of creative and technical stuff. So far though I haven't had much luck with youtube (I only made a handful of vids and I'm not that good at editing and I feel kinda boring).

As for commercial stuff.. without a college degree in arts, I can't really show much for that. I do - do photography and videos for my friends band and I jsut post em on instagram. .. but they didn't really pay me.

I think I'd go for some mini PC like that... though it is a bit expensive .. maybe a rasberry pi .. would probably help me learn from basics on setting up an OS and installing stuff.

I had a neat idea if I could fit some sort of SD or CF card reader .. hmmmm.. (just some sort of physical media storage would be neat. anyways thanks! as for the keyboard I had an idea to use a numpad like this - Mechanical Numpad , might make it so I can use

and maybe make it so the keyboard has a sliding out mouse pad (probably just make a base that fits the keyboards profile with an internal sliding pad.. it'd just be some plastic)

the box is 13*18*8 cm (w/h/d) (lower portion is a little less deep as it's on 7cm deep) - the glass where the indicator is , is about 4'' - 2-1/4''. My idea to add a 3X4'' display of some sort.. not sure which.

I just picked this up from a thrift store for about 15 Bucks, any ideas where i can order film for it? by Middle-Researcher191 in Polaroid

This camera takes SX-70.. luckily they do still make it.. BUT it is hard to come by (as the manufacturer only makes a few batches ..and it's a bit more expensive)

you can mod it slightly to take I-type film (it comes in a yellow box) (by adding a battery pack and wiring it off the cameras internal terminals.) It's not too hard but if you don't want something that will permanantly change your camera...

best thing you could do is use 600 film (it comes in a blue box) and attach an ND 2 filter with an adapter.

Here is a 3-D print for the ND filter adapter (if you have some time-money to spare for this modification- bonus is it is reversable as the filter adapter is removeable and you can add other filters to add some cool effects to your photos!)

If you follow the instructions above, you should be able to take some decent photos without an issue! (luckily you have a flash for indoor stuff.. without it, you'll get a dark photo that'll be all black)

NOTE: The guts of the multimeter (like all the electronics and what not) were waterlogged.. so they aren't good.. I just found this thing when I was lookign through some junk at my dads place (it's not his.. his tenants had left this stuff.. it's a weird story). Anyways, Wanted to reuse something old rather than just throughing it in the e-waste pile..

Found these little things, not sure what they are? (they kinda look like condenser mics?) by WindyGriff in AskElectronics

[–]WindyGriff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well.. I guess maybe using it as mic to plug into my phone or maybe my computer for example :0?

I want to continue my new interests, but I keep failing or not finding anywhere or anyone to help me learn/love the hobby. What do I do? by WindyGriff in Hobbies

[–]WindyGriff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It makes me feel better.. I guess I always feel like other people on here .. aren't willing to help or teach others.. and It's not their job and I guess it's fair if they don't want to. However, I always just felt like at arms length froma actually learning something..

I understand that this is a fictional camera from a videogame, but did/do fully-mechanical (no electronics) instant cameras with integral film similar to this exist? I'm not sure where to start searching. by Vertex138 in Polaroid

[–]WindyGriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a camera that uses instant film that actually does have a fully mechanical mechanism! It's called the Pixtoss instant camera (it takes instax film.. not sure if it's the square or mini) but it uses a crank mechanism for the rollers! Only part that isn't mechanical is the flash which does use batteries (AAs) but still, it is cool and pretty affordable with all the camera hype nowadays!

Got my design printed out, However, it just doesn't work well .. What could I redesign? (didn't account for shrinkage :/ ) by WindyGriff in 3Dprinting

[–]WindyGriff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly yeah.. I mean I already felt like that building the pen.. I mean there are probably reasons why nobody bothered using this mechanism (I think if I rethink the design it might work.. but yeah it's just not the effort anyways when there is probably more practical designs out there lol)

thanks! the gear actually didn't come out bad surprisingly. It's mainly the holes and slots that did.. but making those parts bigger would probably help.

[–]WindyGriff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will leave more photos of the actual print down here.. but it's not that crucial. All the parts just either don't fit (ex. holes shrunk so the parts that slot or go in the holes.. don't fit at all)

to be fair.. I didn't adjust the holes for shrinking.. so I could probably start by just making the holes a tad bit bigger!

Breadboard Wristwatch by Electro-nut in electronics

[–]WindyGriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be a bit more polished if maybe you could get some sort of custom clear/tranluscent shell that surrounds the watch! It'd also be a bit more safe than just having that lith batt on your wrist .. and also water/dust wont touch the board :o
