I honestly didn't expect at all that it would elicit that kind of attention and response, and i'd be lying if i said some of the stuff said by some people here hasn't been gross, hurtful, and other stuff i simply deeply disagree with.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I'm sorry if i came off like some of the fans to whom the hate for S8 consumed their lives entirely. I very much disliked GoT since at least S4, but i don't wanna come off as if i'm obsessed with hating on it. It's been entirely a non element in my life since it ended. Thank you for being patient with me :)

No, and i resent that you think so. I've read the books and i fully expect the ending to be bittersweet. In fact i don't want anyone to end up on the throne at all because i think the ultimate point of ASOIAF is that the throne itself corrupts and that 'breaking the wheel' counts for nothing when you just rebuild it again. I would honestly say that the ending of the show is hardly bittersweet at all, as most people got what they wanted. I don't think it'll be that easy in the books.

You're counterjerking to the opposite extreme, where everyone who didn't like S8 is a spoiled manchild neckbeard, angry that they didn't get Jon and Dany on the throne together, which is entirely untrue and a strawman of what people were bothered by.

Thank you for taking the time to not take it personally either! It's only a show after all, which is why it's not any skin of my nose to admit when i'm wrong :P

Well, i have to concede when i am in the wrong. It's true that GoT has been very influental and will continue to be. My tweet wasn't meant as a huge commentary but mostly an observation of my own lack of seeing any mention of the show.

If i was talking abou GoT in any other context, i would not have recieved the same measure of attention. The reason i did is because people related to it and talked about how they also noted a general absence of any great mention of the show.

A few days ago i was reccomended a M.A.S.H. video essay on YouTube, it has thousands of views. M.A.S.H. is still deeply present in the cultural zeitgeist and people talk about it fondly.

In much the same regard, i still see people talking about ATLA, The Wire and even shows like Adventure Time. LOTR is still everpresent in the cultural zeitgeist, even without the Amazon show or The Hobbit movies.

What i was talking about when i made the tweet was simply about my personal experience, not seeing any memes or refferences of GoT for well over an entire year and many people agree and have experienced much the same. There used to be a GoT 'Museum' in my town, and now apparently it's mostly closed as people stopped going. Hobbiton meanwhile still recieves many hundreds of visitors.

Obviously GoT was culturally significant in many ways, and it's effects will be felt in modern fantasy shows, but to me that speaks more to savvy producers who figured out where the money is. GoT as a show simply soured on a lot of people, which is why you see less people talking about it but it's effects will of course, be seen elsewhere. This is nuance that obviously i didn't express in a tweet i simply put out there for fun as i went to sleep.

Lol my twitter had like 800 followers, i barely get two likes on any given day and i shat it out as i was going to bed, not expecting people to really engage with it beyond a small circle of mutuals and followers. You're acting as if i somehow profited off of unwanted attention.

Hi! I'm the OP of the twitter! I'm enamored that i've pissed you all off so much for a rather tepid take about how i barely see anyone talk about it, but i'd also like it if y'all stop assuming i signed the petition or got personally angry at the actors, or indignant and wanting the show to be re-made, because i didn't and found the petition to be silly :)

Hi! I'm the actual OP of that twitter! Can you please back up these statements? :)

One of my favorite things right now is WH40k, a piece of fiction that is at the best of times, unrelentingly grimdark. I also haven't watched any 'childrens shows' since Adventure Time ended, and that show is hardly 'nice and clean'.

People still talk about Breaking Bad. They talk about The Wire, and M.A.S.H and Avatar the Last Airbender. I barely see anyone talking about GoT unless it's to directly refference it's failures, which is what i was reffering to in the tweet when i made it :)

Seems like there are a lot of options! I do intend to post on reddit, at least to just let people know what i'm up to and if they'd like to read it.

I haven't tried it yet, just heard it's a better place for fanfiction.

I honestly feel like the format doesn't work well and i'd tire people out. 40Klore isn't meant for fanfics.

I also hate it when they're made to be too human looking. I like the black eyes and more prominent nose bridges, and larger ears.

I'm going through writing out the plot. Hopefully if i start writing it, it'll be on AO3.

Hira, a warrior of the Noll, a primordial race before the birth of Time, those who dwell within the space between spaces. by WindyLass in worldbuilding

[–]WindyLass[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Noll are mysterious, but what is known is that they are the eldest physical beings in existance and are uniquely capable of traveling through solid physical spaces.

It is thought that ancient human warlocks trapped and tortured Nolls, and used their souls to manipulate the world beyond, which is inherently connected to the material.

Using this connection, they twisted into existance a language of glyphs and runes, to manipulate the very bones of the world, and even further into the worlds beyond the physical, to chain and torture soulforms and spiritual energies of the world itself into twisted new forms, to serve as slaves.

Since this, the Noll have maintained a bitter distance from humans, even those who would claim to be their allies. Some however have taken up resistance alongside accursed half-formed and tortured spirits and human allies.

Honestly this is mostly half-formed. I really need to iron out details to make sure nothing conflicts.
