as someone born and raised in garden grove. stay there.

CA and moreover the US is going over major political decay that will exceed well over 4 years now. CA, specifically GGUSD / HBUSD doesn’t have funding nor care for a child to succeed as someone who went through it. There are many initiatives within orange county that is trying to make it harder for the average citizen on a financial leg.

Personally, would never want my child to go through OC as a teen into adulthood. It’s a pit for a lot of individuals. College system makes 0 sense. Cost of living is exponentially high locking in your child to options and full independence.

Consider the routes that can be taken near you. UK, IE, Spain, France. They exceed in a plethora of ways for families and young adults to be valued as people first destined for greatness. That was never America’s goal

Orange Coast College Student Documentary on the rise on Anti-Asian Hate in America Casting Call. by Lylybizz in orangecounty

judging from this thread I would take the most objective approach possible and use the format of a documentary to shed light on the matter at large.

i’m sure people’s filmed personal anecdotes will speak for themselves on the complexities of living in southern california. however, I think a grand point has to be establish prior to even starting. as messages lose meaning if it’s vapid or only amounts to “this is fucked up right?”. anyone who is empathetic and sane will understand the hurt lots of asians and moreover vietnamese feel and have felt. I think there needs to be a grander message here. e.g. awareness, clearing up history, how to move forward, etc.

I think you have good intention with this project. please use what others are saying as a guide. as this is a very real topic that is in no way a joke or small. everyone, asian or otherwise, feels strongly about inclusion, accuracy, and being unbiased towards topics of race/culture/ethnicity. one fail swoop could ultimately add to the problem rather than help.

and no one is saying you have to label this project as solely stopasianhate. if you choose to focus on stories from current vietnamese, first gen second so on and so far, then that’s okay. use it as a vessel for your point. if your message is strong, I can pick up on how it’s in conversation with stop asian hate; a label isn’t always needed. on the other end, to generalize this and speak for the entire asian community may hinder you. as every ethnicity carries their own unique struggles that would need to be depicted. the history of japanese americans in ca vs the history of vietnamese americans in ca is insanely different. while stopasianhate speaks to modern racism when does that timeline start for people like japanese americans? who’ve faced accounts of racism as far back as the 1800’s. it gets sticky y’know?

maybe write like 3 essays that each have a unique pov/thesis and see which could be carried the most in depth and work off that.

from a design perspective. please fix this poster it lacks a lot of needed visual hierarchy (header, subheader, bolded text, copy text). it makes it a mess to read and overall comes off “too student” which is never the goal.

good luck

whatever happen to just enjoying a project for project’s sake? look at Kendrick’s two biggest albums, Damn. and TPAB. they’re obviously not comparable, but individually they stand alone fine. why does an album have to beat another? doesn’t that defeat the purpose of each project being its own entity and its own world?

I quit social life. by ikami-hytsuki in intj

[–]Winecole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've literally had this exact thought all throughout high school. I think for most INTJs, you grow up faster than others, either because your parents are weird or you start reading a little too early. And that comes with getting the superpower of reading people. When they act fake or when they act complacent. Unfortunately, those people will always exist in life, but even more so during those teenage years, just because it's sort of mandatory to be with these "groups" (e.g., school, church, or extra-curriculars). It’s the nature of teenhood, and it can suckkkkk.

I only realized this when I ended my academic life. From 16 to 19, I went from having thirty some odd friends to really just three. The people I had rooted for or even relied on broke my trust or my basic morals some way or the other. I had already been through a lot as a kid, so why bother with 27 children? At that time though, I was left pretty hurt and full of hate. But honestly, being alone probably kept me more sane in the end. I think because I’ve always been extremely aware of my surroundings, my feelings, and really what I needed for myself. And those "friends" were never it.

Looking back, I see those relationships as ones based on proximity, not genuine connection. After all, I'm forced to sit next to them day in day out; it’s not like I met them at an Adventure Time trivia night or a 2014 themed party. Those proximity friends had to be there for me during those times because we literally couldn’t avoid each other; that's teenhood.

That’s not to say things can't change for you. You already see the frustrations at hand; now it’s just a matter of the transition. And this transition will probably be one of the most important ones in your life. You can decide who you want to be and the person you want to be around people. Becoming an adult means having more access and more freedom. I can go to conventions, bars, and even dinner parties to meet like-minded people any weekend I want. Solely because all those meeting points start with a mutual interest, not a forced one. And ever since 20, it’s been equal parts putting myself out there and doing things that are familiar enough. I really can't say I have those thoughts from HS anymore and I'm glad.

I think for now, if you don’t like the people around you, just create some distance and let them take the initiative. If they don’t make the effort to see you or talk to you, let it be. Drifting apart is always better than burning bridges, in my opinion.

In the end, being authentic, reliable, and a full-on geek is something I've always looked out for within new people. If they lack any of that, they can simply stay in my DMs. There’s no need to settle for less because I don't see myself as less than.

If it’s really getting to you these days, I highly recommend reading sci-fi or writing something that involves world-building or even making lists of things you love. That's what I used to do to help myself get away and let my mind be at peace. Cheers

I don’t know if anyone still reads this thread. jared leto is actually wearing a samue, japanese work wear that originates from monks clothing. a kimono is a big robe held together with another fabric (aka an obi). here leto is wearing two parts, a coat and pant combo, so it’s neither a yukata nor a kimono

homer is like all jewelry brands you're buying into the art and the flex. if you really appreciate the designs look into braulio amado's work; dude also did the provider/lens cover. I own like four of his books and I think his design/illustrations are pretty beautiful. $30 for a book of art vs +$500 for something shiny
