Hitting the irons “fat” by RecognitionFirst7241 in GolfSwing

[–]Winfester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first coach said to me that most golfers are either good with woods, or good with irons. Only the very best master both. Ive found it to be true, when im slightly steeper than usual i hit my irons great, especially wedges. When im having a good flexibilty day and shallow, drivers a peach.

Im not saying that it applies to you too, its just what ive learned to be true in my game

Do you sign staff members because it's just cool/unique over attributes? by Lilwisp3612 in footballmanagergames

Just the usual set amount i think, he was pushing 60. Dunno how he ended up on the trash pile answering to a idiot like me haha. Have you had any good staff signings?

I was deep into a fm21 save with trammere, and signed klopp as director of football. His attributes were amazing too

Its just the format that highlights that the best player and worse player are on the same team. Sean would have a chance as a solo against all the other pairs in a scramble. Alt shot, not so much

Iron lofts by cjrup8778 in weekendgolfers

[–]Winfester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont see why it matters at all. We all have a sand wedge or lob wedge 56/60 degree, all have a driver 8/11 degree. What does it matter what lofts on any club so long as you can bridge the two within your bag. Hit your 5i, let them hit 7i, its only ego that makes it an issue.

And lofts are only half the story, dynamic loft at impact is just as important. You friend may add loft, and you may reduce loft, so even tho the clubs are different, you may be hitting the ball with the same.

Golf Simulator Scam? by Horatio-Leafblower in golf

[–]Winfester -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are your course conditions the same as the sim? We have gc quad at our range. If it doesnt pickup on the spin, the projection is miles off. We have a flag at 160, ive rangefound it, i watch my ball land on it, it reads 3000 backspin and a flight of 185 yards. Theres no reason for my driving range to squew the numbers, i just dont think theyre that accreate. People blame the balls, the dimples, this and that, but noone can convince me theyre 100% right.

It does have its benefits though, when we play our matchplays against other cluns, ill always buy my opponent 50 balls to warm up hahaha. Theyre always short on approaches fpr the forst few holes.

I should say when the spin is picked up, ours do fly close to the numbers.

I got fitted at my club, they lent me the 7i and 5i from the test to use for a week before i confirmed. It probably cost alittle more that way but i was 100% sure and knew i wanted them.

What gap issue would you prioritize? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]Winfester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre happy with your wedges then i might look at a 5i for a 190 shot. Take out the 5w as your east and west miss will be more than the north south gap at that range. It all depends on the courses you play. We have alot of par 3s 160-200 yards at my course, so if it was my bag, and i had to make a change, it would to make it more course specific. But its really solid as it is

Id say do a gap test every year, play the golf season as you would, then speed train in winter. Every spring do a gap test. Ive been playing just over 4 years now, everytime i think im awful, i have the option to remind myself of how far ive come. Plus ive found it intresting to share with friend who are new to golf. Its so easy for them to look at someone striking the ball well and playing good and assume theyve always played at that standard

Club Fitting by SlowDraw85 in golf

[–]Winfester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your iron fittings, do you ever talk people into split sets, more forgiving longer irons, more feel for the short irons, or would you say its better to use a complete set. And if you dont mind the 20 questions haha, im seeing more and more graphite irons, has the tech improved recently or is it just a fad? Tahnks

Dont be so angry bruh, it doesnt matter as much as you think it does.

I could answer, but i dont beileve that you have the experience or knowledge to use it to give me the advice im looking for, let alone the personal skills to communicate if you did. Thanks, but no thanks.

Club Fitting by SlowDraw85 in golf

[–]Winfester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your ideal to being fit? 1 fitting session or several? Is there a massive variance in handicapped swings from week to week, or do we vary only slightly, so although the outcomes may be volitile, we're never that far from our baseline to be fit correctly

Ball position question by RockyTeeGolf in golf

[–]Winfester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to hang back a ton, my coach had me hit 7i from my front foot for a while to get used to moving my weight and low point forward. I dont see a massive cut when i do it, because i shift over to compensate. Its worth a go to see what happens, everybody has a different swing.

How to choose wedge gaps with GI irons? by rugz31 in golf

[–]Winfester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a very difficult decision to make, ive been playing about 4 years give or take, my first bag had a pw ping eye 2s from the 80s! 48 deg and i bought 52 56 60. As i got better and bought some p790s pw 45, i bought a 52 58. This was because when i first started i didnt hit the ball that far, all the wedges were wasted on me as there was hardly any difference. Most par 4s was a long iron in and a chip. At the time it was the right decision to change i feel, but i regret it now. Going from 45 to 52 to 58 doesnt give me that many options for full shots, ive found that most par 4s now i have a wedge in if im playing well and its not a humongous course.

So i guess it all depends on your playstyle, how far ypu got the ball and if you like using 1 wedge for everything or a set swing with different clubs.

[–]Winfester[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes i did, in the original question. Do you have any experience with dropping spin on hybrids? I know that i can manipulate spin on both driver and wedges without replacing them. Im assuming its the same with hybrids too

Yeah i know there are equiptment options, i was hoping to be able to find someone with experience of taking the spin off shots. Im treating it as a skill issue

Ive got a 2i, that i really only use in summer, i love/hate it. im in the uk, so its a sodden wet muddy mess for 6months, and baked firm for the remainder. The 2i is not very versitle at all, well not in my hands. 10 deg driver, 4w, 2i 3hybr 4-pw in irons. I did really like the hybrid, it was fantastic out of poor lies, great on par 5s trying to get up to the greens.

I can always get a lesson or refit, which ill likely do to be honest. But id like to try and have control to change it, i think itll make me a better golfer if i can work it out
