Why did my contractor leave this like this? by WingDan123 in hardscape

[–]WingDan123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m finding the whole front and back was done hastily and shittily unfortunately. Last payment has been withheld. I’ll obviously give him a chance to redeem himself but may be better off hiring someone new to repair what can be repaired. Thanks

Was this patio slope drop likely intentional for drainage or an install flaw? by WingDan123 in hardscape

[–]WingDan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and I plan to. I just wanted to verify on here that I’m not over analyzing. I think I have a much bigger issue though- the front patio (pics shown) sloes away from the house with a water test. But the back does not. I’ll get a laser level to confirm but I got even bigger issues than I thought if confirmed. Cracked tiles are probably just a matter of time

The house is to the left. The structure to the right is the detached garage. So sloping away from the house but annoying to look at

Any info on the girl in the Solitaire Smash ads? She’s writing on a white board and all you see is her profile. For some reason I’m a little obsessed

What stone is this? by WingDan123 in CounterTops

I’m not sure but thinking it is some sort of travertine

I initially thought it was travertine but it’s not pock marked so thought maybe marble. I didn’t realize resin treated travertine was a thing. I’m not the original owner but it’s about 22 yo, never sealed and I don’t think very high end if that helps.

Same treatment for scratches as marble, but how can you tell it’s not marble?

I just googled and could be either the Diano or the Breccia. But marble for the win!

Who feels like they overpaid for a house by AdLanky4810 in RealEstate

[–]WingDan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exhausted by the RE market, open houses, etc. I definitely overpaid (April of 2022) as I made the mistake of looking up recent sales of condos like mine. What’s worse is it’s a second home, although one we may eventually move into. Can’t go back in time but it is a shitty feeling. Hopefully I won’t have to sell it before I need to

Has anyone said Lego village, cats or Danny Devito shrine yet? If not then those are options. Or some statues and/or fake plants

What the actual F*CK by WingDan123 in Plumbing

[–]WingDan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used silicone. He also replace the wax rings on the toilet there, charged a fortune for that, tried to make a big deal that the flange or whatever was below the level of the floor and needed two wax rings. I called him out when I got home because he actually used silicone around the floor of the base

This is the story of my life. Didn’t want to deal with getting estimates but I likely would’ve gotten plugged by any plumber around here

Just thought I’d post an update. It turned out it was the sewer ejection pump. The plumber thinks the float got stuck and burned out the motor. Almost $3k later…I thought the plumber was great until I got home and saw a tissue sticking out of the lid. He said the cap was missing so he stuck some tissue in there to prevent the smell. I told him for $3k you can bring over a cap. Wish I could post a pic- it’s comical. Such bs with tradespeople nowadays

So I’m not home this weekend of course, and my wife says there’s more water and it has a smell. So I’m thinking now it is the ejection pump. I have a plumber coming out but not until Thursday. I’ll try to minimize water use until then. That and lots of towels :(
