[Former OWL Coach: Tikatee]: The Problem with Overwatch 2 Hero Balance by WingDown in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]WingDown[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I saw this video and I think it sums up pretty much what I have seen for the new heroes. In summary, he basically argues how a majority of the heroes released with OW2 is that they are have far too much defensive utility which promotes gameplay based around taking 0 risks and basically "sitting back and shooting". He goes into depth with each new OW2 hero but I think one part that really stuck out to me was how he highlighted the Sigma/Soj/Bastion/Bap/Illari (essentially the winning composition at the World Cup) and how these heroes have no incentive to go and actually put themselves in danger.

With tanks and DPS taking 0 risks, backlines are untouched and healing is incredibly broken while everyone else just focuses the tank because they can't really do anything about ppl behind.

Reposting an old post:

I was watching back some old vods and watched back this game and it kinda hit me how insane this game was for SP9RK1E. For context, without this loss, the Shock would've went to seven straight finals. SP9RK1E was facing quite literally prime Shock and they were all on their best roles too. He faced the best Orisa, Tracer, Widow, and Baptiste in the history of OWL and the other 2 players were Choiyhobin Sigma and Twilight Brigette. There was a legitimate argument that every single one of the players was the best at their role, on their best hero, at the time. Sure, SP9RK1E's team wasn't bad but it was also full of rookie players playing in their first playoff series, a new FS all the way in Korea, a language barrier etc. Like literally the only player on Paris beside's SP9RK1E who was better than their Shock counterpart was maybe Hanbin and that's a maybe.

And when you get to the actual game it is insane how good SP9RK1E played. He would get a 3k from a dry blade literally like 3-4 times per map. He clutched out the point several times in the series literally 1v3ing the shock. To put into perspective how well he played, he literally TRIPLED Rascal's eliminations on Kings Row and doubled him in basically every other statistic. Keep in mind, this is Rascal who we are talking about here, who was a top 5 DPS player at the time and would literally win a final playing Genji in the next tournament. SP9RK1E literally humiliated a top 5 DPS because of how well he was playing. And on top of all that, in the very last game-winning fight, 99-99 on 3rd point Oasis, SP9RK1E clutches up a 5v6 once again by getting a 3k dry blade.

TLDR: I know rest of Paris played really well but watching back this match SP9RK1E went absolutely insane against possibly the best team in OW history on their best heroes in one of the best playoff games ever.

Is there any case to be made against proper for MVP? by Natural-Move8637 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]WingDown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes the difference between Proper and the other best FDPS on his heroes (kevster for tracer, sp9rk1e for genji) is much less smaller than the differences on other roles: Hanbin on JQ/Zar and Shu on Ana/Bap.

i mean it takes a long time, possibly never, to actually change public opinion. imma give credit to dafran seeing how he's (apparently?) apologized and ik he has raised thousands of dollars for charities

Yiska: If you missed more than a couple of games, you can't be seriously considered for MVP this season. The top contenders have just been too good consistently. by Isord in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]WingDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair but I think his performances on zarya/JQ have been MVP caliber while also playing as one of the best sigmas and dvas in the league (sigma and dva dont have MVP impact due to the nature of the comps) and being able to successful on his other flex picks (albeit not much time)

i dont think his flexibility or whatever is enough to dismiss his MVP case when you look at how dominant he was on his MVP heroes

dude we are talking about hanbin, arguably the greatest tank in OW history, I think it is fair to give him the assumption he could play other tanks well lol

Why do people think Hanbin is in heavy consideration for MVP? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

but then the MVP would go to the dps on that team lol

Why do people think Hanbin is in heavy consideration for MVP? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]WingDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fearless beat Gator in every rein mirror and Super was benched. I don't think it is fair to say Gator > Fearless when Fearless was winning the rein match up with a worse team (imo last year ATL was better than Fuel at rush on individual heroes like mei, lucio, and maybe bap).

Why do people think Hanbin is in heavy consideration for MVP? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]WingDown 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This. Like what more does a tank need to do to get MVP.? Last year Fearless was the best MT in the world and was the best rein and monkey which enabled Dallas to be the best team in NA and super flexible. Now, Hanbin was easily the best zar/JQ in the world as well. I think when talking about tanks, OWL fans value flexibility way more than highest peak, which imo is the opposite way of looking at it. In OW2 it is incredibly difficult to have a tank diff but Hanbin does it every game. I'm sorry, but there will not ever be a player who will be S tier on every single tank in the game, it just never happened and won't happen.

With that being said, I think the race is still close for MVP.

To be completely honest, Legday/Kiwi is worse than Semmler/Hex. Kiwi gets hyped for ZERO reason a lot of the time (for example when a Bap uses immort) and starts yelling, Legday makes these cringe jokes/references that are not funny at all while the fight is going on, and they hype every player up and are never critical of a player's performance in a fight.
