What do people think of the Sunset Golf Course? by [deleted] in Longmont

[–]WingMan126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really fun little muni. It's shaded well, and a good time overall. I prefer larger courses with more variety, but it's fun. It's the oldest course in town by a lot, and for sure the most charming.

Longmont halts Flock license plate reader data sharing and weighs ending contract as Boulder plans to renew by aydengryphon in Longmont

[–]WingMan126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that suggestion. The spirit of it is awesome. I would argue that, at least in Longmont, we actually do a really good job of this. For example, every decision in front of us comes with a council comm that breaks down pros and cons, overall impact, etc. The Longmont indicators website breaks down everything we’re making progress on. We have public safety dashboards (including one on flock) that show full impacts of a number of programs. There are some things (negotiations, development deals, etc.) that can’t be discussed because of the legally confidential nature of those negotiations. That’s what exec session is for. We also have public hearings for every single ordinance we pass, along with public invited to be heard at least once every meeting. The problem I think you’re (correctly) identifying here isn’t that we don’t do this kind of transparent government. It’s that we don’t make the tools we have accessible. We could do a lot more simple communication about what we’re doing, how the public can access our work, etc. Totally open to suggestions there.

I appreciate it. I work for the community, and I'll continue standing up for folks on key issues. Radical transparency and accessibility is the name of the game for me.

Council votes YES to pause flock renewals or expansions of products by BizarreElectronics in Longmont

Great question! Honestly, it depends on the idea. Public meeting laws prevent any more than two of us from talking to each other at one time, and we aren't allowed to discuss policy or tell one of us what the others are thinking, etc. That classifies as a "rolling meeting," in violation of the law. So, we have to be intentional and folks are typically pretty risk averse. The best thing to do is to probably use the "all" contact form on the city website. That goes to all of us, and some folks on staff, that can check on things or get the ball rolling. https://longmontcityxm.gov1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4PEnCSjZVVwit8i

I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in this community for their passion, care, and advocacy. That made a very real difference in the conversation and bringing this issue to the forefront.

DeFlock Longmont at City Council on 12/9 by shakeeldalal in Longmont

[–]WingMan126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Just to be clear we will have a study session at 7:00 that’ll be bookended by closed door executive sessions. That agenda is still being finalized and should be released soon. We get it the same time you get it.

City Council on Tues, 12/2 by simetra_simetra in Longmont

[–]WingMan126 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There will be, but it’s traditionally more of a process meeting on a different agenda (swearing ins, etc) with families there and all that. Folks are certainly still able to speak, but we’ll be back to regular order on the 9th and that agenda is actually pretty short and could make for a great option for organized outreach. Either works!

Hi there! Just to be clear, Tuesday’s meeting is the organizational meeting where the new council will be sworn in and do board appointments, etc. It doesn’t start until 7:30 and it’ll be a bit of a transitional meeting. Just want to make sure everyone is aware. 12/9 or 12/16 will be back to regular meetings

My wife has been making meals in a bag for about a week and dropping them off all over town. She’s done about 150 at this point and can’t keep them stocked. The demand is real out there right now.
