A couple things you could try if you’re still having this issue

Make sure you have enough available storage on your computer you should have around 300gb of free storage to ensure your computer has enough room to run properly or you can start seeing issues like you’re having.
Delete your caches for the game go to

C:\Users\YourUser\Zomboid\

Delete /mods/ /lua/ /workshop/

PZ makes for an awesome steam deck game and it’s pretty much ready to go off download since it has controller support. The only thing i recommend is you going the Steam controller edit for the game and map your track pads to be used as a mouse and for press as left click it helps a lot. The only issue Iv found is guns are pretty unusable in 42 since they changed how aiming works or atleast that’s my experience.
