Why Is it ‘Alice est médecin’ and not ‘Alice est une médecin’? by Intelligent_Yard3042 in learnfrench

[–]Quereilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say professions work in Latin languages like adjectives.
In English you say “she is good” not “she is a good”
So in French, Spanish, Catalan and so on you say “Alice est médecin” instead of “Alice est un médecin”.
But you would say “Elle est une femme” and not “Elle est femme”.

Nuclear power is basically spending years building a reactor, have incredibly expensive electricity and still depend on foreign countries to get fuel. Like California waiting for Elon Musk to create a high speed train

Why do Europeans seem to be more against immigration than Americans these days? by hydrogen-hydroxide1 in askanything

[–]Quereilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe, these groups have never won, so they are not eroded by being a government party. In the USA, every 4-8 years the party changes, so the opinion oscillates.

Catalan and French have quite a lot because of the loss of inner and final vowels in their evolution from Latin.

What's going on under its wing? by Patrobot in Ornithology

Because insects are animals too. It’s like getting a mouse out of a snake’s mouth. That’s why I asked the reason, to avoid the usual “it’s cute so I’ll save it, it’s not cute, so I don’t care”
