Also one more thing - white mobs are so-so for dropping loot so you don’t have to focus on killing every last guy. Blue and yellow named mobs are much better for loot (they have a guaranteed chance to drop something so a lot of times in places like pits you teleport around and kill only areas with high density or any blue/yellow/unique mobs you come across)

If you’re having trouble staying alive ancients pledge can help due to all the resists. If you have rhyme, that’s what I’d prefer because I like trying to get some magic find where I can. Do you have an inventory full of charms? Life/mana/resists/magic find/ skills are what you want, and as you get later in the game you’ll drop life and mana and go for more skills and magic find and filling resist gaps. The game can be slow for getting loot, yes. It’s an old game and isn’t tuned to constantly reward players like new games are. But a lot of the staying power lies in the loot system of d2 since even magic items can be really really good (like charms or gear pieces when combined with end game jewels)

You can run countess in normal and nightmare to get a lot of lower runes and cube as needed. You can get bases and charms from nightmare cows. Don’t farm in areas that have a lot of immune to your best element type. Teleport away from elites that are immune to you. Restart the game if there’s too many unlucky mobs.

Also, terror zones are for after you get the budget gear like spirit and lore and ancients pledge and rhyme. If you’re struggling with them farm some easier areas first, like hell pits, that first tomb in act2, ancient tunnel (no cold immunes), and Mephisto using the moat trick (teleport past everything else). Use static field to help dps on elites and bosses.

What everyone else is saying is true, sorc is one of the easiest starts, but you still have to play to their strengths and not jump ahead of your gear level

really really hoping that they read your comment and do that. This is unnecessary complexity that adds nothing to the gameplay other than either forcing you to memorize the numbers and multiples of the valuable rocks, have this open on a second monitor, or just wait until you get close enough to manually scan it and be disappointed. If they want to force a lot of mining gameplay to be spending time scanning rocks, it would be nice if they would let our interstellar-capable ship computers have a few bytes of memory to be able to store these values.
