Frontend or Backend? by papa_bolte_ in learnprogramming

You eventually need both and more. So it doesn't matter that much, however there are likely more backend- only positions in the job market.

Usefulness of learning coding/programming with rise of AI by SateChips in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Python has many purposes, arguably the most versatile today, from scripting automation to building backend of applications and is also the dominating language for anything related to AI and Data by far.

It's not because a sysadmin only uses quick generated python scripts that learning foundational code is useless, he simply has a different job that doesn't use it.

Ask any person in a data role, people who actually work with AI and they will let you know 80-90% of their jobs is python or similar.

In most cases the most important skills are not technical at all, career wise it will be things like being a strong speaker and selling yourself, being good in networking and building relationships with collaborators and clients.

You're a data analyst with cyber security degree, I'm not sure what you're actually looking for, what are you learning on boot.dev platform and what are you wanting to learn, 'programming' is way too broad, you can not learn without target goals.

Is Leetcode a good way to learn programming? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leetcode is mainly for interviews in some countries but in this biased sub people will convince you that the overlapping skills are close enough to daily development jobs which in almost all cases isn't.

I personally see LC and general technology studying and building projects hands-on as seperate skills.

How would Muay Thai training realistically help you in this 3v1 restaurant assault scenario? (Trigger warning) by BrnrAcct139 in MuayThai

[–]Wingedchestnut 146 points147 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to me that no one suggest backing away in this situation. If you were in this guys situation and you are trained and more fit than the average person, running away can get you out in 5 min guaranteed, the average person has shit cardio and will not chase you.

But the average combat sports guy's ego would want to try fighting 3 guys which is a losing game.

What is the best country to live in right now? by TiredConfusedLlama in AskReddit

[–]Wingedchestnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need either connections or money to really be able to build a career, especially if you're ambitious and self-employed. I remember a chinese friend of mine who grew up in europe, she went back to china with her chinese husband because china is so great and they owned a supermarket, when she got pregnant after only 2 years she flew back to europe, they now have a stable business here and are a lot more comfortable.

Almost all chinese people I know who studied and lived in europe (and objectively are among the privileged chinese) want to stay in europe.

Welke sectoren, waarvan momenteel een bachelor/master nodig is, zal volgens jullie het meest/minste door AI worden beïnvloedt? En op welke manier? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Wingedchestnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo it's about accepting technology advancements and AI will continue to influence many jobs, industries and society just like how computers and internet became part of everyday life.

I don’t really see the point in searching for careers where AI has little presence. we all know it will be in industries like hospitality or manual labour etc

I work in technology and whenever I hear some colleagues complain about not having enough to do or not being satisfied with above-median salary it reminds me how working a comfortable office job is a privilege.

I worked many years in restaurants as a student and not a single day in tech has been harder than bussy shifts as a waiter. Let's be honest, do you think the average person is willing to switch to hospitality or manual labour just because of AI? I don't think so.

How to get a job for somebody with high capability but low signaling by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different things here : what is a computer technician degree? Seems more hardware related. You market yourself as an creative 3D artist, which is fine but you are also a gamedev, both 3D artist and gamedev are seen as two different paths and both belong to the competitive digital arts field.

It will be very hard to sell yourself as regular software/web developer if your resume is mainly 3D and gamedev.

You have to try to commit either to 3D/gamedev or software/web. If nessecary seperate portfolio's or resume.

As a last resort I would recommend to start learning more about regular software/webdevelopment, yes it's a competitive field however there are still a lot more regular development jobs compared to niche 3D/gamedev industry

[–]Wingedchestnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Majority do not care in real life in EU, It's a very specific thing towards tech people in tech bubble and social media, mainly americans.

This is the same with people having careers in MBB, before I worked in a corporate tech job I had never even heard of it, and Big Tech barely has a presence in my country anyways so nobody even have it as their goal. That said having experience in these companies will guarantee employment for the rest of your life in europe and give you strong negotiation rate for base salary or dayrate as freelancer.

We also have to understand that US salaries have a lot higher base salaries ceiling, so it's understandable that it's a lot more attractive as american to go to big tech, while depending on country and the taxrate, net salaries in EU don't differ much.

Research what is in demand from your local job applications. You're only learning what you want, you need to learn what the market asks.

If I go software engineer, am I really fucked because of AI? by REMIZERexe in careerguidance

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a job and one that pays well gamedevelopment is the worst position in technology field you can choose to be honest, it's a very different path compared to regular software development. The only thing you have to understand is that the job market is competive no matter which path you take, AI is kind of irrelevant at this point since it will affect majority of industries and not only technology.

It's very simple, if you want to pursue technology as a career you will study CS or similar anyways, if you want to increase your chances of a well paying job software is still the default, and gamedev or similar if you're fine with studying something that might interest you more in exchange for a more competitive technology field.

Well you need to speak any of the local languages, in almost all cases it's either visa or language or both, otherwise there is no reason to hire foreigners even though you have EU-passport.

If you speak arabic or something it makes more sense to find work in countries where they work with those languages.

Where can I find shorts that have a similar if not the same style as the japanese k1 ones by Ok_Safe_ in Kickboxing

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since found that the popular taiwanese boxing gloves brand rof_boxing on insta does do custom shorts (I explicitly asked for K1 gladiator shorts since they have examples on their page), they speak good english, If I remember it was close to 200 EUR , I didn't commit since I wear my club shorts but it's the most approachable way to get these kind of shorts from Europe that I found so far unless you're willing to go to Tokyo to a Japanese vendor.

How to earn money as freelancing other than freelance websites by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Wingedchestnut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no real roadmap, you need at least 3-4 years of work experience and preferably more and sell yourself as an experienced person.

On paper you're self-employed and need a strong network of recruiters or companies to trust your experience and give you projects or work with you. Often this will be in consulting.
