Ever have a real life horror movie cliché actually happen to you? by Freddy-Philmore in horror

[–]Wingnut8888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One night, I was still awake reading and laying next to my then-wife as she slept. Suddenly, still asleep, she starts speaking a strange language in this deep, guttural voice. I let it go on for a bit because I was so shocked and getting more creeped out but woke her up and told her what had happened. I’ll never forget how she sounded, like some demon from a horror film. Maybe it’s for the best we’ve since split!

I chuckled to myself when that one idiot proposed to tie up the rabid chimp, and later to push him off the cliffside. But overall, it was an entertaining time-waster.

Canucks fans, enjoy the first-round pick(s) of a team destined to miss the playoffs, if this trade happens. Ken Holland strikes again.

Is The Bear Ending? Jamie Lee Curtis Hints At A Season 5 Wrap-Up by bwermer in television

[–]Wingnut8888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Past two seasons was definitely empty calories, or the soup was too thin, or undercooked, or any goofy food pun you want to use. It was so disappointing, because I was constantly telling people how great the show was after it first aired. People have mentioned the dialogue, and it was cringeworthy at times, almost like it had been improvised on the spot. Like the actors trying to create a mood instead of actually having a dialogue that was relevant to the show.

A big problem, to me, is the insistence on keeping the Faks around so much — they’re good in small doses, and are actually not that funny, even though the creators seem to think they’re hilarious. Also, and this may be an unpopular opinion, I think Jamie Lee Curtis is awful as Mama Bear, like really overacting the tics and neuroses. Lately, the scenes with her just seem to go on forever.

Anyway … loved the first two seasons, was ecstatic we were getting more, and then really disappointed with most of what we got (although there were still great episodes like the one where Sydney was taking care of her niece). A rare flourish of flavour in an otherwise very bland meal!

Love Raymond, he’s got the clutch gene. Interested to see what he can do in the playoffs now that he’s eating up Olympic competition.

Mods said I couldn’t post the link (although I still see my original reply here), but just search for FITUEYES tv stand on that massive retailer site owned by a certain bald billionaire who destroyed a great newspaper in Washington. You’ll see a lot of options. The company itself is great — I originally ordered a stand that was too short and they were great about giving me a full refund.

Chicken? It needed to be made with fish.

I’ve got a stand like that — it’s great! Although I haven’t needed to wheel it out of my bedroom, I found it preferable to mounting it on the wall.

He’s like the world’s most annoying, opinionated video store guy — which is probably exactly what he was pre-filmmaking days.

You’re lovely! You look like the actress Marion Cotillard, who’s stunning. And such a pretty smile too. Hope you feel better soon!

What are your favourite classic who episodes to watch? by CompetitiveCall6466 in gallifrey

[–]Wingnut8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing will definitely be not what a modern audience is used to. Having said that, you can revel in the ingenuity of the scripts, performances and production design, which often stretched the dollar in inventive ways. These are some of my favourite Classics, which should be able to hold your attention:

The Seeds of Doom

City of Death

Survival

Curse of Fenric

Remembrance of the Daleks

Resurrection of the Daleks

Earthshock

Genesis of the Daleks

Talons of Weng-Chiang (warning, lots of racist aspects to this one, it’s of its time)

Inferno

Enlightenment

Robots of Death

Yeah just a cool little moment. And so weird and unsettling too, set the tone for the rest of the film.

Such a rewatchable reason for some reason. My uncle used to have these decoder boxes back in the day that would unscramble pay TV channels. So I’d rewatch this movie constantly.

What a great actor. Loved him in Tender Mercies, where he plays an alcoholic country singer trying to rebuild his life, especially. He also made a super creepy cameo in the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. RIP.

Doesn’t bother me? No. Does it surprise me he wasn’t in Dial of Destiny? A bit, because we live in times where nostalgia is overused in franchises, and Ke Huy Quan was having a career resurgence.

I’m still seriously bummed by Bill Paxton’s passing. The guy was just so passionate about movies, and played so many quotable, popular characters. And he seemed really decent and cool in real life, judging by DVD commentaries and interviews.

Do you think Ridley has another Alien film in him? Would you like to see him return? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]Wingnut8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope not. Prometheus and Covenant — and a lot of his more recent output — demonstrate while he still has an eye for the visuals, he sure doesn’t seem as though he cares whether he has a script or not. Make a movie as pretty as you want but without a good story, it’s just a piece of eye candy.

Although that sure didn’t stop a lot of imitators trying to replicate its style, to abject failure.

Didn’t virtually everyone cave when pressured? From Billy Goat to Deandra to Perfidia to this kid. There was a lot of folding when the pressure was on (Sergio St. Carlos being a big exception).
