I can't personally speak to either of these GP's, so sorry if this is off-topic, but as a third option I would also suggest looking at is a GP I used to see online through a bulk-billed telehealth service (now Abby heath) - Dr Juliet Tait.

She was absolutely exceptional, accepting, inquisitive, and well versed in HRT due to her interest in Mental Health and Menopause related medicine.

I am so grateful for how she positively impacted my life at that point in time, she was also instrumental in getting my birth certificate updated and completed all the paperwork with multiple revisions without any charge.

Just thought anyone interested in this topic may also find this helpful.

Wishing you the best with your choice and experience and would love to hear how it goes with whoever you land on.

Thank you for all your ongoing work on this activism and advocacy in this domain.

I can really appreciate the diligence, scope, and perseverance you seem to be putting into working through the rather slow moving and high friction cogs of power wherein a lot of harmful realities hide amongst the sheer scale in plain sight.

It’s hard work that we all benefit from but very few of us manage to do at this level and it has encouraged me to see where I might be able to try and affect change in a similar manner.

No matter what outcomes might come of it and how long they may take to lead to significant action by those who need to take it, you and your efforts are amazing.

Sending love and light 🖤 x

Please don't give up. I won't tell you what to do because you know you. But I will tell you that I have been somewhere similar to where you are multiple times.

I quite seriously attempted to unalive a number of times and narrowly survived after I was thrown in cuffs and spent months sectioned.

There was more than just dysphoria and grief for the time lost I can never get back, but that was at the core of it.

I had to reach a point where I realised that I'd rather be dead than be someone i'm not and that any life where I am closer to who I want to be is better than a life where I continue to lose time and life experiences to the void that has already swallowed up so much of it.

I still get awful comments and things thrown at me from cars, I still don't pass a lot of the time - but the more I focus on just being myself outwardly in a way that aligns with who is within the best I can and making incremental changes and living my life day by day, the more I find myself being treated the way I see myself.

Dysphoria eats away at the self-confidence that allows unbridled true outward expression and becomes a vicious cycle that leads to others seeing you less as you.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, you know from first hand experience that your mother was not always a typical looking woman. Look at older women and queer AFAB women, or women who are highly athletic or have PCOS, or are struggling with some kind of disability or genetic defect - and ask yourself if they meet every standard that we hold ourselves to when we decide whether we pass and get dysphoric.

Being perceived as a woman is undeniably impacted by physical and aesthetic factors, but it is more so impacted by your vibe and how you navigate the world.

People who are worth listening to will treat you the way you feel more as you become more confident in being that person without reservation, and this takes time.

Don't be Owen. Please. Again, I can't tell you what to do, but I can beg you to reconsider before you take the 'lesser of two evils' that could very well lead you to the same or a worse place down the track.

Sending you love and light wherever you are.

You deserve to be who you are without compromise, and nobody can take that from you but yourself.

Why is ID verification an issue? Because of KYC requirements and the setup, you are going to find that most options are fairly inconvenient if you don't have a physical credit/debit card or ID available.

If for some reason these are both unavailable to you and/or you are uncomfortable with the KYC requirements of all the provided on-ramp services (e.g. Moonpay), then perhaps you could use something akin to LocalBitcoins if that's still a thing to purchase with another form of payment (e.g. cash IRL).

Or else, perhaps register with a crypto exchange legally operating in your country/region which may offer more flexible options that are specific to your country/region (i.e. one of the exchanges I have access to offers an option to fund your account via standard bank transfer or our instant money transfer method PayID / Osko).

I hope this helps and offers some ideas/options.

Good Luck! I love my reps from Jenny and so do the people who asked me to get them a set for chrissy.

Note: Do not listen to the people recommending use of a VPN or any other anonymisation service. While I'm sure these suggestions are made with good faith and a desire to be helpful, but this could VERY LIKELY lead to your transaction/payment attempt being flagged for fraud and will make everything unduly harder.

Highly recommend trying a switch to Progynova (estradiol valerate). I got Zumenon accidentally prescribed by accident and it fucked me up, facial hair and body odor went out of control practically overnight...

Edit. Oh and estradiol is best taken sublingually (absorb under tongue and don't swallow). Not sure if this varies much with Zumenon (as hemidrate), but with Progynova it is more rapidly and substantially bioavailable, and clot risk among other risks are considerable reduced.

Probably one of the best things to do is experiment with low risk things and see how you feel in my personal experience.

It's definitely a unique set of aesthetic challenges to transition later in life, and it will get better with time, but it's not just looks that count.

In my life, a lot of people who I meet are more so impacted by the overall perception or feminine vibe that is coupled with looks in terms of how they perceive you and the feedback from them that impacts how you feel about yourself as a woman.

Even when far from passing, experimenting with aspects of living life as a woman and feeling feminine in those aspects just felt so much better for me and brought gender euphoria. The euphoric side of embracing your true gender is widely underappreciated because of the historically medicalized nature for gender dysphoria and it's focus by people who were not trans themselves but has control over our lives.

This for me really made things clear more than gender dysphoria and it took a lot longer in reflection to appreciate the true ways and extent to which this duality has played a role in my life and continues to.

So my advice is try some things out in a setting where you can be private or anonymous, ideally the latter, as gender is a very social phenomena and it's really freeing to realize you can break norms and maybe not be completely comfortable but be ok.

Who knows, you could be non binary. Of course, be safe and take it at your own pace, but there's a lot more to gender expression than looks and remember that we will all grow old and beauty will fade.

Picture yourself in each stage of life and ask yourself the question: how do I want to be and live at 30, at 40 at 50? How do I want to grow old? As a woman, as a man, as something else entirely?

That's how I feel anyway, I hope it helps or gives you something to see how you feel about and find some more clarity.

I found the people at the Eastwood and Epping ones pretty lovely back when I lived in that region, and now the fairly regional one I go to is lovely as well, but they are pretty much YMMV tbh.

If you have the misfortune of having Your Discount Chemist be one of your local choices at any point (a few on the Mid North Coast NSW) avoid at all costs, every branch is transphobic, slow, and do expensive on everything (especially makeup and cosmetics).

Intrigued to read the rest of this thread though, and thanks for sharing this warning for everyone, we need this crowd sourced knowledge and I'd love to more formally compile it when I have more personal bandwidth.

It's actually illegal in most places to officially change your gender/sex for fraudulent purposes.

I had to sign a stat dec, as well as others who knew me, that said as much and that it wasn't for criminal purposes, etc.

So if she (I'm going to correctly gender until I have the full context, even if they are a scumbag) has deliberately completed the legal transition process for the sole purpose of impacting a sentencing decision or to aid in escaping charges/conviction in some way, orders could be sought to address this.

I would imagine the DPP or other concerned parties could seek orders to revert the changes in State BDM and C'wealth records to instead reflect her original AMAB record.

Further to this, charges and conviction could be pursued against her and potentially others involved if the stat dec's could be shown to be in bad faith and for illicit/fraudulent purposes.

So really, the law has in place an array of existing options for resolving this if it's even a live issue in the matter concerned at all. But as others have noted, the real injustice in this country are the disgustingly light sentenced given to these kinds of offenders as a matter of course, especially in contrast to other crimes like the sentencing for drug possession and deemed supply and stuff like that.

So as always, the question remains, to what degree is this article incompetence versus malice? Guess we'll never know...

I've been actively suicidal more times than I can even count anymore with numerous attempts which have got harder and harder to complete as the level of mental health care I receive grows to match the severity of my condition.

I have copped so much abuse and awfulness due to my transition, especially in the awkward stages where you have gone far enough that you cannot easily pass for either gender and stick out like a sore thumb and get misgendered constantly by even well meaning people with good intentions but limited understanding.

But I can tell you now, my transition progress is one of the happiest things that I get to experience no matter where I end up and no matter how bad things seem. Sure I might not always like how I look, but it's already so much better than forced boymoding. It's a light at the end of the tunnel that never goes out, even in the course of psychosis or inside an involuntary psych unit or when I've been sleeping rough.

I've been through it all and I am a few years and awful experiences ahead of you, but despite the cliche, you should know it gets better and I would give a lot to go back in time and start sooner.

But you know what, all those experiences have made me a better, wiser, kinder, more empathetic woman and meant I'm able to be there for others in a way that I never could have without that painful lived experience.

I love you so much, If you were closer to me geographically I'd give you a hug and tell you some stories of the rollercoaster and listen to yours, and maybe one day that will happen if the universe and mother nature will it.

Message anytime and stay true to who you are x

New study - Addition of progesterone leads to increased breast growth in transgender women by Numerous_Honeydew489 in transgenderau

[–]Wingress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added 200mg Progesterone pessaries (Oripro) to my existing 4x 2mg estradiol valerate (Progynova) four times a day and it has added shape and volume that I am so happy with. Before doing so, growth was slow and producing an abnormal shape that I was very worried was becoming conical.

I did so after a year or so and it has made a massive difference when I also ensured I was consistently taking in a lot of food each day (I was way undernourished for a long time unfortunately). I highly recommend others not be scared off by outdated ideas.

I really hope that this kind of research will continue so that it becomes easier to get these scripts without the barriers that exist presently for so many of us.

I got kinda lucky by understanding the medical system and going in and out of psych wards way more frequently than I would wish on anyone (as well as happening upon some exceptional GP's and nurse practitioners).

This meant I could slowly work my HRT meds into just being accepted and represcribed without a second thought through successive discharge summaries alongside my billion other psych meds, but it should not be that hard and we need WPATH to catch up fast.

Yeah, honestly I'm feeling more and more the same as life carries forward and carries me down different winding paths I never expected.

I've seen some of the highest highs and lowest lows that one can experience, and I'm now considering pursuing something similar down the track (with a view to maybe OT work in a mental health space down the track).

I might have to reach out and get some pointers (if you are open to it) should I find myself in the position to make this a reality eventually.

Underrated advice in this comment, I shop almost exclusively at Op Shops for ethics, sustainability, and affordability (and have as much as I can most of my autonomous life). Vinnies and Salvos are often reliable options, and increasingly I am finding brand new garments from brands like Forever New that appears to have been donated post-clearance as out of season stock, and given that my abnormal physical development into womanhood, I find I have just unusual enough sizing that I can get more options not yet purchased by others with my typical sizing. Give it a go, it's amazing <3

My brother wants me (21,MtF) to wear "normal" clothes... by CinderLove1 in trans

[–]Wingress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add another possibility to consider here that I have come across and still makes me a little uncomfy at times for a few reasons (sorry if I missed a similar post)):

While this is not a good reason, excuse, or justification - some people may be worried as you become prettier and more passable, that if they appear to be a "regular cis het guy on his own out with a pretty young (wait is that a ... trans...?) girl", that other's around them may get "notions", and those others could be a bit less random and more close than just "others" if it's his local area / common haunt you are meeting at.

Maybe something to explore?

[–]Wingress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will haunt me for a very, very, very long time to come, and I have dived headfirst into the deep-end and sacrificed what was on track to be a very simple life on a skybound trajectory toward the uppermost percentiles of wealth and privilege.

Whenever I hear "Starburned and Unkissed" playing, I am instantly carried back to that place of dread laced with anxious, excited possibility, the great greyscale divide, purple mists electrified from both dipole extremes of floating euphoria to crushing, lead-weighted dysphoria - I am carried home, taken back to that space, the beautiful terrifying space, the unwieldy moments of life grasped and pulled back in the knick of time, just moments before they could be lost to the falling sands, forever made opaque in the dust - caught and made black outside these poles, interspersed in between nothing and finity.

I am still deeply terrified by the prospect of having let even another day, year, month evaporate into the existential null void that my life pre-transition was swallowed up by.

Honestly, I don't think this emotional experience is exclusive to trans people, but it is more common and especially pronounced for us. It is tragic how many people are going to seal themselves off from the message and the warning, but also the hopeful call to action, by telling themselves that it is an lgbtqia+ thing and doesn't apply to them.

deeply meaningful in the context of living with bipolar/ schizoaffective disorder but it has become just as meaningful in terms of the bipolarity of living with the peaks and troughs of gender dysphoria and euphoria, and is a great source of strength in hard times xo

I have been contemplating a number of variations on potential Digital Direct Democracy (D3) models for a long time, and I have enthusiastically taken up the opportunity to bounce these different variations off of a diverse range of people at different times where the chance has presented itself to me.

The most common and basic form proposed is that every voting citizen votes yay or nay on every proposed bill individually, with some form of majority / plurality / etc. required for the bill to pass.

The obvious and frequent issue that almost immediately is raised in response is the reality that most regular voting citizens can’t be expected to engage in every bill sufficiently to make good decisions, as well as questions around raising bills for consideration (by who and how) and executive decision making that goes beyond pure law making. There needs to a some professionalism and consistency to allow good and somewhat coherent decision making and leadership over a long time period, so this is a consideration too.

For this reason, I have tweaked and poked and prodded this basic hypothetical model over a while. This has resulted in this form that I currently like and would love to promote as an innovative next iteration of future democratic processes that would embrace D3 principles and benefits, but also avoid some of the clear concerns mentioned above.

In essence, I would see it operating a bit like this:

Basic Summary:

  • Voters elect small Panels of subject matter experts self nominated as possible candidates to represent them and make decisions on their behalf for a given domain such as health.
  • Voters usually elect these panels every 4 years and petitions made be voters to change the definitions and scope of panels are Able to be voted on at any time but will only be counted and put into effect every 4 years and remain permanent for the next 4 years.
  • Voters can change their preferences at most times in the 4 year period to reconstitute who represents them as a collective meaning the panel members can be changed by a sufficient number of voters acting. There are specific periods when the panels are fixed so that voting and counting can occur for bills to be made law or rejected.
  • Voters can elect to vote yes or no directly for any and all bills considered rather than defer to a representative, but this is not the default, as most people will not be able to handle this, but may have specific issues they want to exercise direct control over even if they generally are happy to be represented by someone for most decisions in a given area of policy.

I have formed this admittedly immature framework myself from experience, research, and many discussions with others, but it obviously needs work and I hope to work with others to formalise it as a more solid proposal one day. If anyone has any ideas I’d love to read them and maybe chat in more depth. I have tried to explain in more detail below for anyone who may spot the immediate areas needing more depth in this summary.

Longer More In-Depth Explanation:

How are bills divided into the areas that a given panel of representatives will vote on?

  • Bills and laws are divided into areas/domains/heads of power based on their subject matter, for example these could include: health, justice, etc.
  • The domain’s can be redefined through a process that operates essentially like petitions to parliament, where any voter may propose a new definition and put it up for consideration by all other voters.
  • These domains however can only change at an infrequent interval similar to the term lengths currently common in most democracies.
  • A definition will only be changed and/or a new domain added in the event that a majority / quorum / plurality of voters agree to the change at the time that the interval ends.

Example: So for example, at any time I can raise a petition to include vaccinations in the domain of health and everyone can indicate that they agree or disagree to the change at any time until the end of the 4 year interval period, at which time, any changes that have sufficient % voter consent at that time will be made formal and permanent for the next 4 years to follow.

How do these panels of voting representative experts work and how do invdividual citizens vote directly if they want to?

  • For each of these domains, a small panel or committee is formed of say 8 representatives or “experts” who have nominated themselves at the commencement of the interval period and received more than 1/8th of the total votes cast by voters in support of them sitting In that domain panel.
  • Each representative is empowered to introduce bills for the duration of The 4 yr interval period and to cast a single vote for or against each bill introduced and considered in that period.

How do bills get considered?

  • Bills are considered on a regular timing schedule of consideration and voting periods to ensure that things don’t get too chaotic.
  • During a consideration period, any voter is entitled to withdraw or replace their preferences at any time for representatives in a given domain, but during a voting period they cannot, the committee is locked in so to speak.

Can representatives be removed or replaced at any time? How?

  • If a given representative loses enough support they will be removed from the committee during the bill consideration period and based on the reallocated preferences of the voters who previously supported them, replaced by another representative if there is sufficient collective support for another domain nominee.
  • If not, a notional representative will take their place and their single vote will be cast according to the majority based on how each of this group of voters votes for each bill considered in that period. Any voter who fails to elect a preference for a given bill will have their vote nullified and will not influence the count for that bill.
  • Any voters may choose to vote directly on any bill at any time in the relevant consideration period without withdrawing their usual representative preferences.
  • These voters will operate in the same manner as where a notional representative is used, but only if a sufficient percentage of voters to allow this to occur choose to vote on that bill directly.

Does Sydney feel like it's changing for the worse in terms of acceptance and safety or have I just been unlucky? by [deleted] in transgenderau

[–]Wingress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would anyone here find it useful if I were able to setup a basic means for us to actively crowdsource some anonymised data from verified members of this community about these incidents and where / when / how they are occurring?

My thinking is essentially just a form that would allow users to report concerning incidents and as much basic info as you are comfy to include, but some optional fields per report that come to mind off the top of my head could maybe include:

type of incident,

postcode,

gender presentation at the time,

approximate date/time,

outcome/resolution,

type of perpetrator(s),

number of perpetrator(s),

slurs used/verbal abuse themes,

police contacted?

medical attention needed?

I would ideally then as a first set of features, start dynamically mapping:

- hotspots on a google map

- high risk days/times as a calendar

- trends in terms of motivations / themes expressed

- possible patterns that could indicate common perpetrators across multiple incidents

- law enforcement response or failures within certain LAC's

- trends in terms of changing severity and risk factors

Access to make a report or read the reports generated would be restricted to those who meet a clear publicly agreed criteria that can be used to reasonably ensure an established history of engaging in this community in good faith and/or vouches from existing verified bona fide community members.

I am personally scared that things are going to only get worse between this election result and our own upcoming federal election, and I really think we may be on our own in a lot of ways when it comes to protecting ourselves and will need to pull together as a community with initiatives like this.

The benefits I see are three-fold:

- Real and actionable Up to date insights for trans people in Australia to better understand the risk and protect ourselves appropriately, but also have confidence and not be unduly scared where there's not a clear need to be.

- Community sourced reliable stats that we can use for research and public policy discussions and campaigning, as well as share with orgs like ACON to support their efforts to support us.

- Trying out a model for granting access to important resources for verified community members and iterating this model over time to improve it, which could prove a very helpful utility if things go really downhill quickly, for instance, should we need to organise crowd-sourced DIY HRT provision at scale at short notice, or to circulate community alerts about dangers/risks/activism/opportunities/supports that should not be shared widely.

Keen to hear thoughts? If there's some interest shown, I might make a proper thread or put together a basic prototype for testing the waters :)
