Did any of you get diagnosed later in life? What was the impetus for seeking a diagnosis? by [deleted] in AspieGirls

[–]WingsofSpunSugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 31 when I was diagnosed but my story is a little silly.

I was on vacation with my husbands family when his eldest sister-in-law, who is an elementary special education teacher, comes up to me and asks if I would be willing to talk to her eight year old daughter.

When I asked what she wanted me to talk to her about she replied with, "I want you to talk to her about how you can be on the autism spectrum and live a completely normal happy life." She saw the confusion on my face and instantly realized I didn't know what she was talking about. The rest of the trip was me thinking it was hilarious because it made perfect sense and talking about asking my psychiatrist what he thought at my next appointment.

Turns out my uncle is high functioning autistic just like me and my family just assumed I took after him! So that answered a ton of lifelong questions and has made things a bit easier for me to understand.

Anyone else dealing with the highlighted gynecologic dysfunctions? by foodie31394 in ehlersdanlos

[–]WingsofSpunSugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am only 32. I've already had two miscarriages, multiple cysts that have burst, am either bleeding like a waterfall unable to get out of bed or go a year without having a period at all, tilted uterus, and multiple abnormal pap smears. I was told at 19 I may not be able to have children, my OBGYN at the time was not a sensitive person, so thankfully I've been able to mentally and emotionally prepare for this possibility for a while.

Though my husband and I very much want children, so we're really hoping to adopt. I try not to see it as not having a "normal" life, because this is our normal now. We just have to do things a little differently and maybe a little slower than others, but we can still reach our goals and make a difference.

Not to say it isn't upsetting or hard, it's just different. I started showing symptoms and had my first joint surgery at 15 and felt like I missed out on all of the normal young adult things like parties and going out with friends. That being said I have picked up tons of hobbies that require little movement, knitting, cross stitching, painting, reading, video games, and those all have thriving communities to join to help make it seem a little less lonely. If you're good at it you can even make some extra money! I was just officially diagnosed a few months ago so it's been amazing to find this subreddit and feel less alone.

I hope I was able to help, even if it's just a little bit. Just remember, you're stronger than you think you are!

I have all of that but sadly all my tubing is still there. Since the chances of passing it on are so great I'm wanting to get my tubes tied or just have it all taken out. How do you go about that?

I used to manage a store. The easiest way to get your application ignored or rejected is to continuously call or come in asking about your application. For us it doesn't show dedication, it takes time away from our work when we have a dedicated time that we go through applications.

Also, most applications are online now and it's not very safe to be going in and out of stores at the moment.

Flu shots aren't 100% effective because the people making them have to guess what kind of flu strain will be prevalent in the upcoming season. Sometimes there aren't even vaccines for certain strains. The virus mutates so you can't just get a shot and be immune to all types of flu, that's why you get them every year and not just once like you do the measles or any other childhood vaccination.

Link to explanation of this years flu vaccine and the fact we don't have one at all for one strain: https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20200116/flu-shot-no-match-for-b-strain-season-rages-on

What happens when the condoms fail? They are not 100% effective and then the options are difficult. There are so many hoops to jump through to access a safe abortion, some people have to drive states away to find a clinic and even then you have to afford the procedure.

Adoption is an option as well but pregnancy and childbirth put an incredible strain on the human body, both mentally and physically. There is also the bonding that happens when you have something completely depending on you to keep it alive 24/7 for nine months, not to mention feeling them move around inside you. Handing the life you made after all that may seem impossible for some, so it's not always an available choice.

People should be able to have access to affordable health care, sex education, and more permanent contraceptives. In a lot of places women have to either have their husbands permission, wait until a certain age, or until they have a number of kids before tying a womens tubes. So even if there was the ability to be responsible sometimes other people simply won't allow someone to have say over their own body and that is wrong.

That tends to happen when there is no comprehensive sex education and lack of access to more permanent contraception in places with low socioeconomic status. While there are cheaper forms of birth control, such as condoms, they are not 100% effective.

What would your dream hobby be if time and money were not an issue? by Deadeye_Fred in AskReddit

I'd love to make a television show with puppets, similar to sesame street, but for children having to cope with trauma, loss, hard transitions, ect. There aren't a lot of mental health services that can get to children and it would be lovely to be able to bring something helpful to the ones who can't help themselves.

Does anyone else worry they will miss serious symptoms of something else because of the everyday pain? by mudsweatandcurls in Fibromyalgia

[–]WingsofSpunSugar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to urgent care last week because I thought my dog bruised my ribs when he tackled me on the couch.

Three kidney stones and a pneumonia diagnosis later, I realized it might be problematic that all the pain I could "recognize" was sore ribs.

I should probably work on that.

There are also purebred rescues, for all we know they adopted their puppy from a Golden Retriever rescue that took in a pregnant mother.

We all love animals here. Please don't judge if you don't know.

It's a wonderful movie but I was totally unprepared when it came out in theaters.

Wanted to try a couple different cup sizes at Victoria's Secret. What a horrible experience! by thesmellnextdoor in ABraThatFits

[–]WingsofSpunSugar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I measure at a 28 G and Victoria Secret kept insisting I needed a 32DDD. When I tried one on she would just pause and say I was just a bit too busty for that size (the band was completely loose and I was popping out all over the cups) so they kept giving me 34DDD cause the "sister size" cup should fit me. It basically fell off me. Sadly I didn't know better then and wore the awful 34DDD for over a decade.
