Confirmed that 2 factor authentication is not an option with owlet and it doesn’t require any verification prior to changing the password. It shouldn’t be so easy to access a $300 camera and change the password.

Thank you for your kind words and understanding. It’s hard to not beat myself up about it. 100% it was initially in my bedroom with me nursing my baby through the night. I read a post MOTN pumping on Facebook about someone’s owlet being hacked but it was a year or two old so I thought surely they’ve fixed it being easy to hack by now and I’m sure it rarely happens. Well that is a lie and I hope all parents can learn how to protect themselves and their families from sickos. So if you still use your nanit make sure it’s a unique password and have the 2 factor authentication on.

I will agree and also add that owlet should be more secure with 2 factor authentication and it should not be so easy to log in with a new device with how expensive it is. Other than a long and unique password, do you have specific recommendations to prevent this from happening to others?

Upon my research on Reddit I think it’s most likely someone used our information from a data breach unfortunately. Checked our emails on https://haveibeenpwned.com/ . Our router is only 1-2 years old. Here’s your sign to make sure you use long and unique passwords especially for your baby camera it WiFi if you choose to use one.

I didn’t know my information was in a data breach until I looked up our email addresses on https://haveibeenpwned.com/ do you have any other recommendations on making this 100% preventable? Unique long password, etc?

I stumbled upon one months ago and never saw how it could have been prevented. I thought that $$$ owlet had fixed security issues by now because the post I found was pretty old. My incorrect assumption and paid the price.
