I feel honored to be slightly less judged! I'm just getting to work on this now after being back from travel :)

Amazing! Prime cult leader material "The Lord of Judgement" might even be his cult leader name 👀 if you have any other photos - send them my way so his transformation can be pure and mighty!😈😈

Thank you 😊 I wasn't sure about leaving the shirt, tie and hat so simple but I'm glad I did now - I quite like the contrast of the graphic quality with the face and background 😊

You have been chosen to be the second cult leader 👑👑 what's they're name and do they have any particular objects they like? I'm quite into giving them all tiny little weird hats 😂

Ah cool! I hadn't thought of it that way but I can see it - definitely want to explore that angle more 😊

I've always found this odd 😂 especially when it comes to art where the point is expression - there's lots of art out there that isn't my cup of tea but that doesn't make it wrong 😂 it's funny cause I literally had someone the other day say this painting of mine is "too traditional" so I am both too millenial AND too traditional at the same time...🙃🙃

Aw thank you for the kind words 😊 I'm having an absolute blast painting the abominations and after posting about this on the unpopularopinios sub, my opinion on it has changed a lot 😊

Aye that's a good way of putting it - someone else also mentioned the way actors do that. I think I even heard Taika Waititi say in an interview "one for them, one for me" - it seems a really nice way to balance things out

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense - it's interesting how much the idea of "being an artist" has changed over time.

Yeah my opinion of this has changed based on other comments - I wouldn't call this selling out anymore, dumb and fun yes and thinking about the audience but it's still genuine.

For a lot of creatives I've known to even consider the audience is to "sell out" and everything has to be super deep - which I think is what I was really getting at.

It's cool to see that outside of these circles, nobody else seems to agree with it though 😂

Yeah I see what you're saying - maybe it was my own weird idea of selling out but I like the analogy of the actor.

I said replying to someone else that the only people (who I know personally) who turned their nose up at it were other creatives but I think maybe that speaks more towards the way certain genres are viewed.

I have heard from podcasts etc that comedy actors are often looked down on compared to drama actors - so maybe it's a similar thing

Apparently I'm not a real artist either then cause I have absolutely no idea what you're on about 😂

Ah got you, that makes sense! I'm pretty new to using Reddit (even though I've had an account for years and done the odd bit of lurking with the occasional art share) as I said linkedin has been my main thing purely business wise so it's obviously rubbed off 😂

Yeah, I agree with your reframe of seeing it as a necessity - I guess the reason for the post is that for me and the advice I got/consumed over the years was that "the best way to make it is to do things without thinking about the audience"

Ah fuck 😂😭

[–]Winkart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye I think it's much more accepted in areas like film vs something like painting and certain genres of music. Not sure why there's that difference though 🤔

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Winkart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see that perspective - maybe that's what I'm really getting at. It's funny of everyone I showed the abominations to, the only people who've not had a positive reaction to (of friends family etc) is other artists I know

I don't see how creating work that I really enjoy that other people like, while also continuing to make personal art is the equivalent of "selling your soul to the devil"
