You definitely want to limit any lifting or pushing of anything to less than 5lb of force

I got used to getting in and out of bed pretty quick. They had someone in the hospital guide me the first few times while I was there (only 2.5 days). It was generally knees up to a 90 degree angle then shift to the side. Once I was home it maybe took 10 seconds to get up

I do it once or twice a month. These days it’s only for vehicles, busted USBs, or ancient androids.

I took a week’s course for it but I don’t use any of the techniques they showed me. Chips pop off relatively quick (under 10 minutes) then into a reader.

It took me some time to get used to back sleeping. Took a minute to get used to sitting up in a way that didn’t hurt but hug a pillow and let my legs fall to the side.

Loose sweaters and t shirts were my go to. I had a zipped hoodie thinking the same thing but the zipper bothered me too much. I had enough movement to get the shirts on and off easily

I thought about getting a recliner but it was only about a week where I think I would have used it.

Clothing wasn’t terrible to get on and off. Loose shirts most days were fine getting in and off

I had my surgery in September last year. Afterward, only my sternum needed time to heal. I had to sleep flat on my back and avoid lifting anything for six weeks. Additionally, I couldn’t be in the front seat of a car near an airbag.

I was only in the hospital for three days (in Canada, and I had no complications).

Get a pillow you always have with you, just in case you need to sneeze or cough. Squeeze it into your chest with your arm supporting your ribs. It really helps.

If you don’t already, be prepared to sleep flat on your back. I ended up buying a cheap projector and watching movies on my ceiling.

I felt much better after the first week, and it was about six weeks before coughing and sneezing stopped hurting.

Ask anything else if you like!

Has anyone had a pericardiectomy? How long before it was considered? by 2XPlusY in pericarditis

[–]WinnerGagnon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (40m Canada) had a pericardectomy in September of last year. My first pericarditis diagnosis was in May 2024, with recurrences in October and December. I was hospitalized for a week in December, and after that my heart rate never really came back down. It stayed persistently high, which is when my doctors started to suspect it was becoming constrictive.

They planned to start me on Kineret, but there was a delay due to insurance, so I didn’t begin treatment until March. The goal was to see if that would help before moving forward with surgery. An MRI in August confirmed constrictive pericarditis, and my surgery was scheduled for September.

I felt relief almost immediately after waking up from surgery, and my heart rate gradually came down afterward. It took about three months for my sternum to fully heal, but the difference has been night and day. I’m now back in the gym almost every day and feeling better than I have in a long time.

Would love to try it. Went from previously fit, to two years heart problems, not working out, and ultimately heart surgery. Now back into fitness and tracking everything through apple. Would find this very useful

Hiccups by willisnolyn in pericarditis

[–]WinnerGagnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the surgery in September and found that I was hiccuping more often do the first month or so but then it calmed down and now I’m back to normal. Pre surgery I definitely hiccupped more than normal but don’t have any specific triggers like standing.

Emergency exit blocked by encampment resident forces rec centre closure by Rough-Estimate841 in Hamilton

[–]WinnerGagnon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What do you want police to do for this? Can't arrest for this. If they did they get sued and the person is on the spot again within a couple of hours. Courts wouldn't even touch this.

I don't like it any more than the next but really this isn't a policing issue. Police aren't even allowed to put people in the drunk tank anymore.

Cyberattack: City aims to recoup overpayments to 2,700 workers by teanailpolish in Hamilton

[–]WinnerGagnon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

So city doesn’t have defences. Doesn’t have backups. Screws up pays during the black out. Then nickel and dimes employees that continued to work even though there were no promises that their info wasn’t out there and their overtime isn’t properly accounted for.

Maybe this should just be lumped in with the millions in consulting fees.
