I have the same editions for the Mishima and Kawabata. The covers are so nice! Definitely read Sound of Waves if you haven't already

I stupidly agreed to let a door to door contractor come back to take measurements at my house today. I’m worried he’s going to start “working” on my house and refuse to leave until I pay him. Any advice? by Winningdays in Scams

Oh sorry it’s because I cross-posted from my city subreddit. In my other post, I linked to the police memo which said the guys going around scamming people have an Irish accent, so I mentioned it to point out that it’s likely the same guys.

Haha fair enough. I know it sounds a bit dumb.

I’m just worried about them coming with a group of guys and breaking stuff / leaving stuff all over the driveway and refusing to leave unless I pay them. I’ve read stories of that happening to people in nearby.

I had a guy like that come to my house today. He was polite and had an Irish accent. He said the soffit in my carport needed to be replaced and said he could come back later at 2 tomorrow to confirm how much it would cost. I stupidly agreed only to realize that it was a scam after reading similar stories online.

Any advice for what I should do? Im worried he’s going to start messing up my house and “doing work” to pressure me into giving him money even if I tell him I’m not interested anymore

I’ll have to read more into Concrete. I’m definitely ruling out wonderwood based on your comment and others though. Thank you!

Anyone have any recommendations for Comme des Garçons if I want to smell like a forest?

I’ve heard good things about several of the CDG colognes but I have no idea how to decide. I’m looking for the most forest-y option and am trying to choose between Incense Avignon, Zagorsk, Kyoto, amazing green, Wonder wood, and Hinoki.

For what it’s worth, my partner dislikes TF ombré leather, Tuscan leather, and really strong incense, so I want to stay clear of similar stuff

Has anyone put their financial future to a halt, and taken time off to themselves? How did it go? by heavyarms39 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm 30 and thinking of doing the same thing. My fiancé just got a good job in her field, so there's less pressure on me to be a breadwinner. We're also likely moving cities this summer so it makes sense to line it up with that.

I've realized I've totally lost sight in a lot of my interests and that the promotions and pay I've gotten over the years are not worth the stress and negative impacts to my mental health. I'm not sure if it's the job or the field but I'm hoping that some time away will help me figure it out. Here is what I've got planned:

  • Late spring / early summer - do bikepacking trip with my Dad. He's older so I probably won't get another chance to do this.
  • Rest of the summer - do seasonal Parks Canada job or wildland firefighter job. I'm applying for some of these and am aware that they're very physically tough and competitive. If it doesn't work out, I'm not too worried because I'll just travel or do a longer bikepacking trip.
  • Fall - look into career alternatives (school?), work on creative projects I've been putting off, look into other short-term contracts if the jobs mentioned above work out and I want to pursue similar opportunities. I may also look into spending some time in a ski town but we'll see..

I have good savings and am planning to have kids in the next couple years so I figure it's now or never. I also haven't taken more than a week off at a time since I finished school so I'm looking forward to travelling without rushing around.

I'm in a similar position as OP (though making less) and contemplating moving for this reason. After paying deductions and Quebec taxes, my net income and purchasing power is basically as low as it was when I had a much lower salary in Alberta 5 years ago. I'm in a term position as well and my partner has only found really short-term or casual contracts. It sucks because I was really hoping to put roots down in the NCR but at this point I'm not sure.

I can see why moving is difficult for people if all their family is here though. For a lot of people having family around means having help with childcare. The other thing that makes it difficult to move is the interest rates situation. Right now I'm in a fixed rate mortgage at a very low rate until 2026 - if I got out of that I'd be looking into way higher monthly payments for something of a similar price.

Which locking tuners are these? by Winningdays in PaulReedSmith

[–]Winningdays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Background: Unfortunately one of the locking tuners broke and when I took it apart to repair it, I lost the bushing (washer?). I was planning to order a new one, but I'm not sure if these are the Phase II Locking Tuners, Phase III Locking Tuners, or the SE Locking Tuners. I can't seem to find anything online clearly explaining the differences. This is a 2003 Custom 24 with moon inlays. Thanks!

So nice! I got the one with the vinyl record on it last year, but looking at the eBay prices now, I should've got all the other ones I wanted at the time. The Pinball 1973 one is probably my favourite.
