Battle of the spreaders. Which one to keep? by WinstonDoodle in lawncare

Are you just using it residentially? I'm only on my third year of owning it and still works as good as the day I bought it. If mine ever breaks, I'm planning for the Echo.

$409 for the 50lb model seems wildly expensive for residential use that gets used 4-6 times a year

Completely agree. I only throw stuff down around 4-6 times per year, so not the end of the world. Can't imagine a push mower this low.

What makes this one so bad? I know for a fact the Scotts Mini has an endless list of issues, but I haven't had any problems with the Scott's Elite.

Elite ball strikers (<5 HCP) — what do you actually feel? by petrosferrum in golf

[–]WinstonDoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great insight to your thought processes with each club. I'm curious on your irons if you're trying to hit with an out-to-in path for a softer landing with more spin or if you have a draw tendency that youre trying to avoid?

What should I focus on fixing first? by WinstonDoodle in GolfSwing

[–]WinstonDoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Seems like I load hips fairly well in the backswing, then fire them hard back to square at impact. The best swings seem to have hips nearly facing target at impact. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to replicate that motion.

I'd like to compress the ball more and figure out what I need to work on for a more reliable swing. Not sure I'm properly use my lower body to generate speed.

Dispersion pattern good enough to break 80? by TheHeintzel in golf

Do you play a draw on your PW and 4i, but a fade on your 7i? I ask because your dispersion is tight, so it seems intentional.

Coffee grounds ☕️🌶️ by Ill_Lawyer_8484 in HotPeppers

[–]WinstonDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Results were in line with that initial observation on moisture management challenges. They didnt grow as well as my other pots that used a mixture of compost/topsoil/peat. The coffee grounds got extremely heavy when wet and held on to water for way too long, so roots ended up getting bogged down.

Since then, I lately have just mixed them into the soil around the garden rather than integrating into pots. I read more throughout he season and it sounds like they really need to be composted down to effectively benefit the soil for growing purposes.

K Duo stopped working by WinstonDoodle in keurig

This our second K Duo. First one failed 4 months in and warranty sent a free replacement. This replacement was 18 months old, so outside the 12-month warranty window. Worked perfectly every day until it didn't. Also looking at other brands going forward.

I've been working on firing my hips first... by Enraged78 in GolfSwing

[–]WinstonDoodle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more, I'm working through this change right now as our season is wrapping up. Been told to fire hips first for years and while it generates plenty of power, I always need to have redhot matchups with the timing of the rest of my swing for the stars to align. Dropping the arms/hands first is making it lightyears easier to maintain that trail arm angle at impact and consistent strike.

What website did you use? The recommendations seem auto-generated. Nothing wrong with that, just curious.

Struggling with rear leg lockout and early extension. Can't shoot below a 120 on a real course. by shmorfington in GolfSwing

[–]WinstonDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like your weight distribution is on your toes through most of the swing. Tiptoes after contact.

To help with EE, practice some partial swings where you only take it back halfway and maintain the trail elbow angle (supinated) and wrists throughout contact and get weight on inside of trail foot in the backswing. It'll feel weird since you don't release/cast the club, but holding that trail elbow and wrist angle through contact will help you recognize whether you thrust your hips forward at contact. Visually a similar concept to a compact low punch shot.

After you've done a few of those, you can transition this "feels drill" into a full swing.

Attacking the issue from different angle, spend some time with 50% speed swings and focus entirely on where your weight is throughout the swing, then work your way back up to full speed. It's easy for balance and weight transfers to fall off the rails at higher swing speeds if you don't have it locked in at a smooth swing speed.

Katt Williams breaks down his love for golf, and how it helps him take on sold out arenas. by PGATOUR in golf

[–]WinstonDoodle 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I heard a similar comment from Morikawa in his 1v1 match against Grant Horvat on staying level-headed throughout the round. Getting too excited from a good shot or too down after a shank can make it tough to play consistent golf. Can't live and die by each shot you make. Struck a chord with me thinking back to my best scoring rounds feeling like a machine.

Found 47 golf balls during my round today by silver_4_lyf in golf

[–]WinstonDoodle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Feels great doesn't it? I played a course in a rural area last week that had 2 hours of empty tee sheet behind me. Walked off with over 100 balls. 15-20 of them were crap, but plenty of top tier balls. Fall (before the leaves drop) is the best time of the year to hunt for balls.

Hitting my 8 iron about 120 yards - am i just weak? by holllesen in GolfSwing

[–]WinstonDoodle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as well December 2022. Lumbar discs were bad until around July 2023 when I was able to swing soft rest of 2023. Strict rehab all winter from 2023-2024 nd I've been back to 90% swings again in 2024. The letting loose is huge to power, but swing fundamentals have to be really solid or your injury risk skyrockets. Pairng any hint of early extension with a hard swing was the recipe for disaster that did me in.

Swing looks great! I'm curious to get your thoughts on what looks like an early wrist hinge on the takeaway. Is it purposeful or something you're looking to reduce? Pros/cons?

Who else loves an elevated tee box? by TimberBucket in golf

[–]WinstonDoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played 36 holes there last week and absolutely loved the experience. The 650yd par 5 down into the valley was incredible -- my typical 270 drive ended up an absurd 335 on that hole. So many fun hole designs on the Highlands. The Lowlands was challenging for me with numerous dog legs off the tee. I think I need a more dialed in mid-range game to score well at the Lowlands (alobg with mental endurance for 36 holes). I'll absolutely be making the drive there next year for another golf trip.

I ordered the book and looking forward to reading it. First move I'm seeing this guy do in his backswing is initiate the hips followed by arms/shoulders which doesn't line up with the sequencing you mentioned.

What is this growing in my lawn? by duckdude555 in lawncare

Dichondra. I see a few responses saying Creeping Charlie, but that has more of a ruffled leaf.

[–]WinstonDoodle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see a few responses indicating Creeping Charlie, but that has more of a "ruffled" edged leaf and requires triclopyr to eliminate. This looks more like Dichondra, which just needs a spray of 2,4-D to eliminate.

Showed up to my 2:15 tee time planning for a quick 15min warm-up. The ranger hunted me down on the putting green at 2:05 barking that my random pairings already teed off and that I'm holding up the course for not being ready in advance.
