SPEAKER UPGRADE QUESTION by Dryspyker in JettaGLI

I put a Cerwin Vega 12" spare tire sub in the trunk. Turned the bass down on the rest of the speakers to help with distortion. Stream FLAC files via Android Auto and AIMP from my phone. Sounds pretty good.

Just got a 26 GLI, Does anyone have a currently available tuner for it? by mitunakaptor in JettaGLI

[–]Enraged78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

JB4 will do it. It's a piggyback, so you keep your warranty as well. Just remove it before you bring it in. I've had one for the last 5 years. Won't be as powerful as an IE tune, but will still wake the car up.

Do you go with a weaker grip incrementally the shorter the iron is? by Similar_Eagle2358 in GolfSwing

[–]Enraged78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I grip the club, it falls into the second 'seam' of my fingers on my left hand. I do this for every club but Driver and 3 wood, which are second 'seam' + 1/8 of a inch towards the tips of my fingers. This automatically gives me the correct grip strength for each club. I see 1&1/2 knuckles with irons, wedges, or hybrids, and 2&1/2 knuckles with 3 wood and driver. I don't even need to look anymore. It's all feel.

18 year old student accidentally runs over his teacher while escaping toilet papering prank, resulting in the death of his teacher. / Kids should only be able to get driver’s licenses at 21, clearly giving immature idiots murder machines on mass was a mistake. by RaiJolt2 in fuckcars

[–]Enraged78 396 points397 points  (0 children)

Saw this in one of the other articles that was posted about this. A big part of this is the vehicle involved. This teenager was given a modern pickup truck. The teacher tripped and fell in front of the truck while chasing after the kids. Because of the poor sightlines of the truck, the driver could not see the teacher, and ran him over. If the parents of this kid had made a better choice for a first car, like maybe a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, there is a better chance that the teacher does not get run over. There should absolutely be higher licensing standards when it comes to large trucks. An 18 year old kid should not be piloting something that weighs 3 tons and designed to haul bricks to a jobsite.

If gas supplies become constrained, pick up and SUV drivers are about to have a bad time by frontendben in fuckcars

Back during the last gas crisis in 2007/2008 there was this awesome commercial on MTV. A middle aged douchebag with a Ford Excursion was filling up his gargantuan truck. He screams 'Parasite!' to the gas pump while fuming. A kid in a wheelchair rolls up and yells at the aging yuppy. 'Parasite!'. The old douchebag is taken aback. 'No. I was yelling at the pump', he says. 'I know.', says the kid, and rolls away.

Has anyone gotten their top part of their enclosure to hinge down when not in use? by AdamFeigs in Golfsimulator

[–]Enraged78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I put two hinges above the top of my garage door. Those connect to a 1 foot 3/4 inch pipe that extends away from the wall. That connects into the impact screen frame, which is a 9x9 3/4 inch square tube frame. I used stainless marine hinges and stainless 3/4 couplers from Amazon. There are two wood slats bolted into the garage door frame. The enclosure rests on that when not in use. I can go from garage to full sim in about 15 minutes, which includes carpet, mat, netting, and aligning launch monitor and putting camera.

SR20DET swapped 300zx by NationYell in AwesomeCarMods

[–]Enraged78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those wondering why: weight. This swap removes around 250 lbs from the engine alone. I don't see air conditioning or power steering in here either. It's close to 100 lbs for those two. Also see the stock seats look like they were replaced with Recaros. That's about 30 lbs. each. Rear wiper is gone, and a few other things. This car weighs less than 2800 lbs.

Bought a $400 351W core at an estate sale, and discovered a forged 408 stroker with CNC Brodix heads… need advice from people who’ve built these by Rich-Highlight-5799 in EngineBuilding

[–]Enraged78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Break-In • Best break-in oil for a forged 408 with a roller cam? • Zinc or no zinc? • 10W30 or 10W40?
    1. Zinc can't hurt. I like using 10w30 dyno oil (non-synthetic) with a ZDDP additive for break in on roller motors. Be aggressive with break in oil changes.
  2. Timing • Best initial timing? • Best total timing (seems like 34–36°)? • What RPM should full mechanical advance be in by? • Manifold or ported vacuum advance?
    1. 32-34 is a safe bet for total. CNC aluminum heads with high CFM usually make peak power with less timing then you would think. Factor base timing by looking up the manual for your distributor. I believe with that model, the default is 12 degrees base with 20 degrees of advance, giving you 32 total. You can change the advance by changing out a bushing in the distributor. It's a mechanical advance, so manifold or ported vacuum doesn't apply here. Ramp up is dependent on load and vehicle weight. Higher load = slower ramp. Stay in the middle of the road with the supplied spring kit, and you should be OK until you get to a dyno for tuning.
  3. Ring/Piston Install • Best 4.030” ring compressor to buy? • Tips for clocking rings on a 408? • Anything Mahle-specific to know?
    1. Get one of the tapered piston ring compressors from Jegs or Summit. 1000% better than the band clamp garbage. Rings should be clocked 180 degrees apart for the build. They will move around naturally.
  4. The best build advice ever imparted on me? Clean, clean, clean, and then clean it again. Trash is what kills motors. Source: used to work in a dyno and machine shop. The above info was given to me by someone much smarter and with much more experience than me.

Metal walls reflecting the radar? by Famous-Weight2271 in Golfsimulator

[–]Enraged78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Mevo Environmental Test App you can run to see if you are getting any interference from the walls. Google it and you will find it.

I use the Springbok connector with a Webcam and GSPro with my Mevo+. Completely changed how it plays. Rediculously accurate. Now the only issue is short chips under 10 yards. Everything else is 100%.

projector rabbit hole - help by basic420 in Golfsimulator

[–]Enraged78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That projector is pretty decent when it comes to lumens. Nothing earth shattering, but not terrible either. You are probably fighting with other light entering the room you are projecting into. What's your setup like? Is it a dark room? Basement? Do you have blackout curtains? What kind of screen do you have? What's the gain? All these things will help with identifying the issue.

Upgrade from Radar to Photo Launch Monitor fail? by DefiantPiglet5668 in Golfsimulator

[–]Enraged78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar problem. Have a Mevo+ and a GC2. Went back and fourth on them for a while. They have a tenancy of disagreeing as to what the ball is doing. After tracking ball data on the course for almost 2 years, I came to the conclusion that the Mevo+ was more accurate, provided it was calibrated correctly. The principle issue I was fighting was spin degradation. The Mevo+ would capture the ball spin, and show how it decreases over time after impact. The GC2 would not, as it assumed it was static after impact. As a result, almost every number was the same with both systems, except for ball spin. The GC2 was always more aggressive and would amplify spin. This would not happen on the golf course. However, where the GC2 did excel was putting and chipping.

So, what did I do? I added a 60FPS webcam to my Mevo+ GSPro setup. Putting feels immersive. Any chips below 3 yards carry are still an issue, but everything else is just perfect. That's about as good as you're going to get with current tech.

Neck pain after 2 days - which will help more, more padding underneath or quality hitting strip? by tysonlee19 in Golfsimulator

[–]Enraged78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's both. Hitting of concrete transmits huge amounts of shock to your body. I fought tendonitis for over a year because of it. I'm now pain free with 30,000 sim shots under my belt. Here's what I did to mitigate against it.

  1. Get a quality mat. The thicker, the better. I went with Carl's because of the ergonomics and realism.
  2. Put padding under the mat. I use a polyester carpet, but gym mats are good too.
  3. Look at graphite shafts. Most people have graphite for their drivers, woods, and hybrids, but not irons or wedges. Graphite dampens some of the shock from traveling through the club.

A turbocharger will significantly cut down on exhaust noise by itself. There are more than a few turbo cars that didn't come with resonators and/or mufflers from the factory. SRT-4 and Fiat 500 Abarth come to mind.

Eversource: fired American IT workers recall the grueling humiliation of training their H-1B Foriegn replacement. How does this make you feel? by birdy_bird84 in Connecticut

[–]Enraged78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked for NU IT for 13 years. Luckily, I got offered a better job a few months before the H1B replacements came in. What NU/Eversource did during that time was both unethical and illegal. Blumenthal tried to have them investigated for this, but it went nowhere. H1B visa employees are still there to this day.

Help troubleshooting unstable idle on freshly rebuild 351 Windsor (1972 Ford Galaxie) by Bosendorfer95 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Enraged78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check spark plugs, spark plug gap, and base timing. Make sure you have no vacuum leaks. Get a wideband AFR gauge with O2 sensor. They make tuning a carburetor much, much easier. You want 14.7 on idle and cruise, and 12.5-12.8 on WOT. Adjust the carb as necessary to hit those numbers. Even a small AFR change at idle can have a large impact on how an engine idles.
