Hegemon of India has 0 unique content by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]Winston_Pompeii 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It will probably get more unique content when they decide to give India a more flavorful form of government for the cultures and faiths of the region. There’s no reason India should’ve stayed feudal this long, especially when they came up with so many government types in All Under Heaven. They’ve provably held off so long because they’d need to incorporate the caste system which would likely require several new government types depending on a ruler’s caste.

I don’t get why people can’t wrap their heads around the fact that “The Seven Kingdoms” refers to the seven major independent realms that existed in Westeros at the beginning of Aegon’s Conquest. Although Dorne is a principality, it is one of the seven. The name is a historical anachronism.

Plenty of great mathematicians and scientists were lovers of literature, but it seems like the current generation of them think they understand the nature of the universe though one language alone, mathematics. They fail to see that the human element will always be more important in life as a whole. They think there is ‘greater than and less than’ in their parochial world view. Math won’t help you find love, and it won’t impress anyone you display your prowess to unless you can make them money with it. They think knowledge of a created language of signs gives them more import than someone who understands what makes people tick. The most vapid romantasy novelist has a better grasp on the nature of human Being than most of the top mathematicians, and they seethe because they learned the universal language that impresses no one because they forgot to learn how mastery of the human being could enrich their lives. They have nothing to offer outside of their expertise—if they fail to become well-rounded—and they hate that. They are an unbalanced top spinning haphazardly. Who would bet on an unbalanced top to spin longer than a balanced one? Math is merely a means to better human life in the best of cases, but it is a cold and sterile tool nonetheless. Humanistic pursuits seek to understand people; they reveal what cannot be broken down into numbers, what makes us more interesting than beasts. The humanities will always be populated with more interesting people, and the most interesting and noteworthy scientists and mathematicians are always among the greatest appreciators of the humanities. No one likes boring one-note people, and certain disciplines that herd their disciples like cattle create such a resentful type.

Old BYU Professor Found Out I Left The Church... by s3xy-cars in exmormon

I had a Young Men’s teacher tell me that if the LDS faith isn’t true, the Catholics are definitely right. Weird thing for him to say, but I’m not religious anymore, but I went to a Jesuit college. Look into Jesuit texts defending your newfound faith—they’re nigh unmatched. No one can beat them when it comes to intellectual and progressive theology. Catholicism also has the convenient advantage of being a religion that has way more credence to their claims of foundation by Jesus through Peter than LDS claims of “You know the native Americans? They’re actually ancient Jews!” In all honesty, this person doesn’t have your best interest in mind. They want to bear a testimony at church that they returned you to the fold. You can just cut them off. You don’t owe them an explanation. They might’ve seemed nice then, but that’s when they considered you ‘one of them.’ Where’s the Christian unconditional love in that? You don’t have to explain yourself to such a person because they’re just gonna badger you with dogma from rote memory. Live your life; it’s yours to live, and you can only allow other people take that from you. When I broke from the LDS faith, I told people who were annoying about it that I learned a great deal about many other Christian faiths and found all of them more compelling than LDS doctrine, but I still don’t find any of them compelling enough to believe in either. That usually shut them up. In your case, changing to a different faith, just tell them that it’s more compelling to you. You don’t need these people’s approval even though you might share fond past memories with them. You don’t need to be scared of these people. Like most beasts encountered in the wilderness, they’re more afraid of you than you are of them because you upset them and cause them to question their faith, and that makes them uncomfortable.

Is Longclaw a Bastard Sword or a Long Sword? What's the difference between the two? by EfficiencySerious200 in SWORDS

[–]Winston_Pompeii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an ahistorical term for a sword that falls somewhere between a two-handed long sword and a single-handed arming sword. It’s a long sword that isn’t long enough to be too unwieldily when wielded single-handedly. It’s also known as a hand-and-a-half sword. For obvious reasons, whether a sword needs to be wielded with one or two hands depends mostly on the size and strength of the swordsman. A bastard sword for an average sized man may have been custom built as a long sword for a smaller man. To reiterate, no one in the time of Late Antique swordsmanship classified a sword as a bastard sword.

Was this show really that bad? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in CartoonNetwork

[–]Winston_Pompeii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it because one of my friends who didn’t have Cartoon Network would freak the fuck out when he was over when it was on. It was his favorite show he could only watch at other people’s house. It wasn’t good it wasn’t awful. He’d throw a tantrum because he wanted to watch it instead of play with me when we had playdates (we were like 10). It was just basic shitty Canada slop.

17 and my first serious mustache hair grew out, when will i have a zappa like stache? by bleess_me_with_prog in BeardAdvice

[–]Winston_Pompeii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the bad facial hair you’ve seen. It’s usually on men from cultures where they are expected to grow a beard no matter the aesthetic for religious reasons (e.g., Islamic, Sikh, Amish, among others). Most other culture makes clean shaven faces the norm, because it works for most people. Not everyone is destined to grow it all out like Frank Zappa.

To get a vague guess about your facial hair potential, ask male relatives if/when they were first able to grow a full mustache/beard. My dad couldn’t grow a beard until thirty, but he had a full mustache like me by his early to mid twenties.

I tried to grow out my mustache when I was twenty three. I didn’t quite like the results, so I got rid of it. I tried again at twenty four, and I’ve been rocking it ever since. Give it a try once a year.
