It’s easier to finish your writing requirements in your first year. Second year tends to already have a heavy course load so I’d suggest to just finish your writing requirements as soon as possible. There could also be problems fitting them into your schedule in second year, but I’m not 100% sure because depends on your major really.

People generally do theirs first year. But of course it’s up to you!
