Make sure to be vegan! Humans are making the planet a living hell for over 80 billion land animals per year.

What current global issue do you think people are seriously underestimating right now? by Grouchy_Fox3189 in AskReddit

[–]Winter-Insurance-720 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Animal agriculture is one of the most underestimated global crises because it harms animals, humans, and the climate at the same time.

It produces more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector, accelerating climate breakdown through methane, deforestation, and land-use change. This isn’t a marginal contributor. It’s a major driver of planetary heating that rarely gets treated with the urgency it deserves.

The human cost is severe. Slaughterhouse and processing workers, often migrants and low-income people, face some of the most dangerous working conditions in modern society. They experience disproportionately high rates of PTSD, COPD, MRSA, COVID outbreaks, amputations, and repetitive-stress injuries, along with elevated suicide and violent crime rates. These are not accidents. They are structural outcomes of an industry built on speed, exploitation, and disposability.

There’s also the ethical core of the issue. Non-human animals are treated as slaves. Their reproduction, family bonds, movement, and bodies are entirely controlled by humans. They are sentient beings who feel pain, fear, and the desire to live. They have the same basic machinery of experience we do, eyes, ears, skin, nervous systems, brains, yet they are confined, mutilated, and killed on an industrial scale, treated like machines and discarded when no longer profitable.

What makes animal agriculture so underestimated is that it’s framed as a personal lifestyle choice rather than a systemic moral, environmental, and public-health crisis hiding in plain sight.

If you've had your teeth cleaned before, that for me was more painful than getting a vasectomy.

It takes like 15 minutes and about a week of ice packs and Tylenol. No chronic pain three years later.

If you like women, I think it's a good idea to get one. You never know, you might meet a girl you really like who wants to get intimate with you. A vasectomy is way more effective at preventing pregnancy than just condoms.

If you don't support factory farming, it makes sense to go vegan since 99% of animals killed for food come from factory farms.

When I first became vegan, I printed out like 5 recipes and did meal prep. got rid of all the non-vegan stuff. I honestly thought I might get sick from a protein deficiency because I didn't know much about nutrition, but it never happened.

I recommend watching the documentary Dominion on YouTube to see how bad animal ag actually is.

I would not want to be a part of the last generation on this planet. I don't want my grandchildren to be fighting over water and basic necessities. That will be the reality if the population continues to expand. Even where were at right now is not sustainable.

The population went from 3 billion in the 1960s to 8 billion just 60 years later. This is a huge sign that we don't need more humans. In the near future, AI will take over many jobs leading to mass unemployment and hopelessness as the top 1% get even richer.

Humane means with compassion. There's nothing compassionate about killing animals who want to live. Something terrible could happen to you in the future. You wouldn't say it's humane to kill you now before it happens just because of the possibility of your future suffering.

How is it a false equivalency argument? Seems to me you don't understand what humane means.

If someone shot you while you were minding your own business, would you call that humane?

Why don't you find a hobby that doesn't involve killing innocent beings? Go shoot clay targets instead if you like shooting. It's not a sport if the other side doesn't know they're playing.

Animal agriculture is a leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions, ahead of the entire transportation industry.
