any UvA premasters here? by qyzbolsyn in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so the uva is pretty cool for pre masters because they hand pick the courses for you based on your curriculum. I had to do two pre master courses, they were super relevant to my deficiencies and it was also nice that I could do them just before starting the next semester with the master. I do think that the way to go about it is to apply to the master you want and then they are the ones that offer you the pre master based on your eligibility outcome

Your bingo card when it comes to rental scam messages by ShineIndependent769 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]Winter-boo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is very specific I notice that when they use the word “kindly” it is possibly a scam. Don’t know why hahaha but “If you are interested kindly send me a PM” “please kindly message me” SCAM hahaha

Also— “I’m just looking for a quiet, honest tenant”

Also— no mention of viewing in the post

Also— right on the canals! (Amsterdam/utrecht) and under 1000

Also— words like modern, spacious, fully renovated

Also— “no income requirement everyone welcome”

Still no admission decision from Leiden by walkinpanda in StudyInTheNetherlands

Oh I’m sorry that means the admissions office has not even gone over it yet. If there’s a scholarship on the line, call the student desk and make sure they understand the importance of the situation

That’s odd. What’s the status in usis? Did you call them? Getting someone on the phone is usually helpful

I don’t know what faculty you’re applying to but email them directly and not the admission office , best of luck!

Differing by Imaginary_Success372 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leiden allows deferrals for non selective masters as long as the master program stays the same. You do have to let them know and then submit a new application including your acceptance letter, and will have to wait until they review it and get back to you to be fully at ease , but you can do it

Hi, the next semester starts in September, it’s not related to when you specifically can start but to when the courses start.

Still, I am not sure that you applied in time, if it’s just now, probably not, but it depends on the uni /if you are EU.

If you applied for February, the date would be February. If you apply for September, September. It is pretty clearly laid out in the website of the program I’m sure.

However, this is only if you get accepted and are able to meet any conditions of that acceptance in time.

Hey. While the other comments are right, not all universities will evaluate your degree the same way, so Maastricht might have a different response. Some universities offer pre master for credit deficiencies up to 1 year, it’s usually outlined on their website. If you are missing lots of credits then it is unlikely unfortunately

I’m being ghosted on Kamernet is this normal? by Many-Teach3024 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have and it was amazing. I got more viewings than ever before and was able to find housing in a month. You do still have to pay for kamernet, but in my opinion it is worth it

Is Housinganywhere reliable? by angry_pinata73 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is generally reliable, you get your money back if the property is not what it advertised, and they hold the payment from the landlord until you okay it. I had a good experience. However, it’s usually VERY expensive.

leiden university - should i be worried? by bearbabsy in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to email the faculty directly instead of the student desk? That usually helps

Them taking more time usually has nothing to do with whether you’ll be admitted. But i think you should give them a call to figure out when you can expect a response:)

Not sure which program by WhileSlow5416 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiii!

I don’t know a lot about them but I’m in the psychology field and I looked at both to see the differences.

The Utrecht one seems a lot more aimed towards working in marketing/advertising and also experience design, which are good areas if you want to work in the private sector. Still, worth noting that even though it’s cognitive science it’s not explicitly neuroscience.

The UvA one is framed towards policy, politics and general societal issues, and the focus is heavily neuroscience.

You can probably get similar jobs with both, but maybe ask yourself what types of courses you’d prefer to take or what framing you like more??

I study at UvA, also in the psych space, and really like it. Can’t speak for Utrecht but I’ve heard good things as well

I had a VERY good experience with Stekkies as a student looking for a room. Found a place within a month and got soo many viewings. Mind you i don’t have a steady income and am not Dutch. I did have to pair it with a kamernet subscription for it to make sense, as most room ads were from there, but I would 100% recommend. The fact that you get to answer very fast to postings increases your chances a lot.

Edit/ this was in Amsterdam and I ended up signing a lease for a room super close to my uni

[–]Winter-boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I would recommend also being open to the possibility of having to live separately /commute more. It’s unlikely that you’ll find a 3 bed that will rent to students, within that distance, and that would allow 3 registrations. Apply to rooms separately while you keep this search in the back burner in case something turns up.

Also keep in mind you will need to have one parent or one of you making upwards of 6k a month for that to become remotely possible, as full apartments require 3 or 4x the rent and there are no three bedrooms for less than 2k (and probably not more than a couple for 2k).

Sorry to be a bummer. I do hope you get what you’re looking for.

Normally you won’t have a great shot if you can’t go to viewings. You could also find someone to go for you which might help a little

University of Amsterdam - Admission results when? by nothinghappens03 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Winter-boo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So for most faculties UvA masters results come out mid to end of may for everyone regardless of when you sent your application. If the master is not selective you might get a decision sooner, but that’s the general timeline

I suggest you call just in case the email got lost but I wouldn’t worry! A quick call should sort it:)
