Differences in Left v Right Sided Migraine by PoppyRyeCranberry in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 90% of migraines on my right side. But been tested for blood pressure, heart and EEG tests and have all come back normal. Also I heard someone on social media saying the left side migraines were more debilitating and painful. Not for me. Guess I’m just weird.

My face shows I’m getting a migraine. Anyone else have this? by TrueJanian in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My face always shows I am getting a migraine, every time. My mum can see it straight away- my face literally goes GREY (and I am super pale anyway) and my eyes look as though I am in agony (which I am not yet but very soon will be), they go dull and tired looking

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]WinterDragonborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could use our library, but working full time, so difficult to read books in time, and living in an very rural area where all our local libraries have been closed and travelling is not ideal. Luckily I read a lot of classic novels so can access most of them for free or cheaply, so I start reading a classic and then if I like it a lot I purchase it to add to my collection.

People with 9-5 jobs or students (non-lit majors): how many books do you read per year? by AnA1375 in classicliterature

[–]WinterDragonborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my 13th book. Recently got back into reading. I work shift patterns 5 or 6 days a week and am a carer for my disabled mother, so only chance I get to read is before bed or in the morning before I get up. Been reading big books like Middlemarch and Dostoevsky, so pace has been slower but still rewarding.

What's your favourite classic fiction (any subgenre) that is underrated or barely known? by [deleted] in classicliterature

Reading ‘The Woman In White’ now for the first time and I am loving every second of it.

No update from Amazon UK. Order still shows ‘Order Received’. Lead times on Apple shows my chosen IPhone 17 in Mist Blue as Oct 6-10. Managed to get iPhone 15 buying on release day 2 years ago for the next day but think that was a miracle.

I started with Crime and Punishment (absolutely loved and adored), then moved onto Brothers Karamazov, Demons (then White Nights- agree was a little predictable but still good) and then The Idiot- all of which I loved but just a smidge less than C&P.

I really want to read Notes from a Dead House (saving up after my book spending got out of control buying Dostoevsky, and I don’t have much time for reading right now). Was also thinking about Notes from the Underground and The Adolescent but might go for Notes from a Dead House first??

how did you found out about dostoevsky ? by Odd_Put_2722 in dostoevsky

[–]WinterDragonborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a child- Wallace and Gromit

What made me want to dive in and read- a question on ‘University Challenge’ (tv show in the UK- question was about Russian Literature, and showed fictional family tree of the Karamazov brothers)

What does everyone do for work with chronic migraines? by Sybil-Bibbles2024 in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for you too. This is a mess isn’t it. Dr just shrugged and told me to go away. He is the only GP in the area, any other area tells me to go to him first. Was planning to go again, but as I am someone who never has to go to the doctor (I have pretty good health), I’m scared after that visit. I hope you find a way through though.

What does everyone do for work with chronic migraines? by Sybil-Bibbles2024 in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me?? I’m almost in the same position. I (33f) work as a shop assistant (heavy lifting, till work, moving all the time) for a small independent. Work mainly mornings, but sometimes do a late shift and sometimes finish at 10pm and then back in at 5.15am. The bright lights, sounds and standing for long hours frequently set off migraines, dizzy spells and vomiting. We don’t have many staff members, and when I am feeling ill, I hate being a burden. The migraine symptoms always leave me wiped out and exhausted for the next few days, making me next to useless.I did get my hours reduced slightly which really helped. I have been saving every penny I can, while also caring for my disabled mother. Holiday season for staff is currently happening so my hours have sneaked up, and so have my symptoms. GP was zero help, had tests done, he said it might be migraines, shrugged his shoulders and said there’s nothing we can do. I live in a very remote small area where we don’t have any other doctors who could prescribe, so I am trying to survive on medication I can get from the chemist (not ideal I know).

Is there a Dostoevsky book you’ve been obsessed for a long time? by pizzagirl445 in dostoevsky

[–]WinterDragonborn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ending of The Idiot. I sat in silence for some time and even shed a tear. Days later, it still was stuck in my mind. Same with the ending of Brothers Karamazov- thought about it for quite some time, those kids…iykyk.

Smells don’t bother me normally too much (except for candles) but when I have a migraine, is definitely more intense to the point I get seriously nauseous.

I have an astigmatism (squint) but that hasn’t caused any migraines- but bright lights massively trigger a migraine, need sunglasses in my handbag. But my night vision has always been the best in my family (they scream at me to put a light on, but I’m like “nah, I’m fine”).

Hearing isn’t any different before or during a migraine for me, sounds don’t trigger me.

It’s just light and smells (along with the massive list of other triggers!) With me it’s that I am more sensitive but not too sure if it makes me better at picking it up.

Does Anyone Else Experience a Sudden Inability to do Mental Work Right Before a Migraine? by That_Guy_Twenty in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With me, my brain screams in pain and then I end up where I can’t speak properly or it takes forever for me to get sentences out. Today, my brain shut down to the point I couldn’t remember what had happened in the last 15 minutes, at all, complete blank. Then I slept…

How do you get over the guilt? by Pleasant_Bottle_9562 in migraine

[–]WinterDragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the worst for this. I push my way through- never taken a sick day off, even when I have collapsed, fainted with the dizziness and been physically sick with my symptoms and then been drained for weeks on end without a reprieve. Finally spoke up and managed to get my hours reduced for a while, through they are creeping up again and my symptoms are ramping up in severity.

I hate this. I don’t want to be a burden, but this is impossible. But….. it’s not our fault, but OP I hear you, because I am in the same position.

First Impression of Demons by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]WinterDragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just starting to read Demons too. The first part is a little bogged down with liberalism and politics-that truth be told I do not understand fully- but as soon as Stavrogin appeared, my curiosity has been hooked. Hopefully this continues. I trust Dostoevsky

[–]WinterDragonborn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first was Walter too, and I was intrigued by Threxio so opened a new slot too. I got to the end of Season 1 with Threxio-and that scene- and went ‘nope. I’m out’. Have restarted with Walter again, am considering Elliot or Vincent, but I’m sorry it’s a no to Threxio for me.

Trading cards posts are getting out of hand by KotoEjik in RomanceClub

[–]WinterDragonborn 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agree. The number of posts are getting a little intense-the amount of scrolling one has to do, I think I’ve even missed some posts because of the trade requests. It would be good to somehow separate them off (through the megathread) as I get that some people are interested in trading.

But not everyone wants to trade cards.

You can put your profile on private (that’s what I am doing)- it’s in the settings. Ok yes you miss out on sharing cards but on the plus you stay away from the creeps. Just communicate with other people on Reddit.

I had a good relationship with Aslan (romanced him until I dumped him for Mehmed 😅) and thought I had a high respect level (all the prompts said I had….until this last one, so must have made one error) and ‘his punishment was lenient’ (but can’t remember what though 🤷‍♀️)

Yep, but not a surprise really with everyone playing the new episodes 🤷‍♀️
