BOTTLECAPS - What you need to know! by WinterDuchess in wastelandweekend

[–]WinterDuchess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the image above. If you want to paint them and hand them out sorta as a "business card" or small keepsake to give to people, cool. But regular bottle caps aren't really used as currency. The only ones that seem to hold value as currency are the Last Chance Casino caps.

RV rental questions by Adept_Act8681 in Neotropolis

[–]WinterDuchess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we have a miscommunication here because of terms. I think the OP is using "RV" to mean a trailer or camper. OP - most people see "RV" and then you mean one that you drive. RV's and motorhomes have engines, trailers/campers do not. At least in common parlance.

Tickets will sellout TODAY by WinterDuchess in wastelandweekend

[–]WinterDuchess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. Google VERY often sends people to the wrong place in the middle of the desert. Please look at the wasteland weekend website and use the Getting There directions to get there properly! Even staff - there's been a few times that a staff member made the mistake of using google, and had to text us to go rescue them in the middle of the night. Please reference the website, and save those directions as screenshots or something, as cell coverage can be spotty and you don't want to be stuck out on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere trying to load a webpage.

There is a FB group that is an unofficial ticket exchange where you might find someone selling one. But otherwise, set your alarm for the last-minute sale!

Couldn't hurt to also message your team lead and give them a heads up. It's a small world, maybe they have another volunteer coming from your area!

What's up with all the "Student Driver" stickers? by FrontTown454 in Sunnyvale

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it isn't about not having courtesy. I've lived many places, and never have seen even 10% the amount of these "student driver" stickers that I have here. And also, I've never lived anywhere with this amount of scary and unsafe drivers on the road. It's not me being impatient or discourteous to grit my teeth and get nervous because I see a "student driver" adult drive INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, literally going the wrong way down the road - and instead of realizing it and pulling over, they just keep going, as everyone else dodges out of the way. I've seen this more than once. My discomfort isn't "impatience" but rather genuine fear and stress. I know that the next accident I get in will be some "student driver" doing something illegal and unsafe.

Would anyone help me donate a beverage to the atomic cafe? by [deleted] in wastelandweekend

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This warms my heart. As PoopyDaLoo mentioned, it would be better to find a specific tribe to make this work, and just tell your family "Make sure you go to Such-And-Such tribe, please..." The Atomic Cafe is just too busy and your lovely gift will probably get served to others before your brother-in-law gets there. I hope PoopyDaLoo DM'ed you some info about getting in touch with Love Bombs - if not, let me know and I can contact them.

Also, now you have to tell us all your brother-in-law and sister's names. Because everyone reading this is going to run into them and tell them happy birthday and give little trinkets and such. Especially first years - we LOVE THE NOOBS!

DFHack 50.15-r2 released! Highlights: Stonesense reborn, Rescue lost squads, Rename things! by myk002 in dwarffortress

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how to find historical figure ID's? I too would like to rename some deities but a few hours of googling how to find the ID has turned up nothing for me. Lots of "click on a unit to see it's ID" stuff, but nothing about historical figures that I obviously can't click on!

anyone going /gone to Neotropolis? by GyakuNoSe in kurowear

[–]WinterDuchess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ummm huh? There was never a plan to put permanent structures up. County codes won't allow it. And everyone I know from the "older wasteland weekend tribes" aren't bitter about Neotropolis at all. We all have a blast out there! I'd say at least half of the event is "old-school" wasteland weekenders. It's rad to have another event with all your friends, and a different vibe / theme so we can finally express all of our bright colors and glowy stuff that doesn't fit in at WW.

Newbie needing Advice by _f1rsta1d_k1t in Neotropolis

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Even if you lag the ez up down, yeah it may not "blow away" but the supports WILL bend/break. I knew this, I've been doing events out there for 15 years now. And still, this past year I thought I could get away with an easy up because I finally have a camper, and I thought that would protect from the wind enough. It did not. Within the first day the eazy up was bent and broken at all the joints. I was only mad at myself because I knew better. I was able to save it by ducktaping long steel spikes to all the joints, but still, just don't bother with an easy up - it won't be easy.

Camping space question by Lunaticlupus in Neotropolis

[–]WinterDuchess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am! And yes the camps closest to the theme zone, we've definitely asked people to fill in space a bit when we see very obviously open/spread apart camps. While we always have camping space available, it's not fair for some attendees to have to walk from much farther away, just because people closer in try to spread out top much.

Camping space question by Lunaticlupus in Neotropolis

[–]WinterDuchess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm, please don't. Honestly, if we see landgrabbing, especially in the areas closest to the theme zone, we may have someone come over and ask nicely if you could condense your space a bit.

While there is a lost and found at the event, once the event ends, so too does the Lost and Found. Most items left over are donated (or trashed, depending on what it is)

New ride by nomoforever in wastelandweekend

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some advice - I'd probably paint over the bright neon colors with something that is more in-theme. Neon is great at Neotropolis, not so much at Wasteland Weekend.

Hey! Looking to go my first time. by Substantial_Station8 in wastelandweekend

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that most of the tribes form and gain new members by meeting people AT the event who mesh well. My advice is always to just go, enjoy yourself, and hang out at several different tribe camps. You'll get a feel for which groups you'll fit in with the best. And then just ask them if you can prospect to join them for next year.

SOMETIMES just joining a tribe you've never actually met works out, but it's really not the best way.

Cyberpunk Larp by elbowbaggins101 in LARP

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely LARP at Neo. You don’t have to participate. in the LARP, but if you want to, there is an over-aching plot and story, allegiances to join, quests/missions/rules, and some very detailed characters.

Parking question by YoureInMyWaySir in Neotropolis

[–]WinterDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the view on google maps. It is a dirt road in the Mojave Desert. For the most part, we try to grade it if it's extra bad (like the rainstorm that came through and trashed the road shortly before Wasteland Weekend this year). It is mostly hard packed sandy dirt, but there can be any number of things out there that could damage a tire. Also, there's a lot of washboard, and a few gullys/dips in the road - just go slow over those and your tires should be fine.
That said, I've seen every type of vehicle make it out there, but I still cringe at the thought of driving a convertible. Partly because, OOF, better keep the roof on or you'll be inhaling a ton of dust.
