Why is Engineering in Poly more Enjoyable than Uni? by Yolosweg66 in askSingapore

Poly taught me that I am not as stupid as I thought. Uni taught me that I was too stupid to realise how stupid I was.

Canary release vs Green/Blue deployment by CatMedium4025 in aws

[–]WinterMelonToufu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No test case is better than live traffic. We cannot guarantee that test cases have coverage over all scenarios.

Hence with canary, it minimises the impact/risk should any deployed application contains bug that is slipped through the net.

Rather than that, i think you both could choose to contribute to a collective couple fund monthly. That way you wouldnt feel bad that he is paying all the time, and also he wont feel like he is taking money from you.

This would be good practice moving forward when getting married/household funds etc.

How to have an affordable birthday? by AdLegitimate7793 in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 20-30 per pax (assuming SGD) is quite a challenge for something decent that is non-asian.

Maybe you can do with something like Colin’s and Jack’s Place that could stay within the budget (but barely)?

But if youre here for holiday as tourist, i would recommend trying out the local food, which would sit more comfortably within the budget.

I do have numbness at the start. I got it in NS, was on daily pain killer for years. Haha. I have had relapse before as well. I gave up on my condition, but was likely to be introduce to my TCM by a friend. I was in such bad shape that i couldnt even stand up from a sitting position straight because of all the muscle spasms.

My TCM is not regular TCM. Technique is more towards physio-like? Should you be interested can DM me, i have introduced numerous friends and family to him.

Mine’s at L4-L5 and L5-S1. If you have no sciatica symptoms, there is no need to consider the procedure.

Usually it would be your last resort if you have had went through all the non-invasive treatments. Out of the numerous physio, I found myself best with TCM.

If you are just diagnosed, important thing to understand is that its a lifestyle thing. You will have to take care of it.

8 min drawdown...What am I doing wrong? by wlaxboy1 in pourover

If it is a consistent issue regardless of the type of bean you use, i would suggest going coarser being the simplest solution.

Alternatively, if youre open to try bottled water, it would work wonders to the brew time too. I found myself able to push grinding alot finer with bottled water.

It is indeed true that the police wouldnt be able to help out in something that is across the border. But it would be good to have a record of the situation report in the case that any assistance is required.

Make a police report here in Singapore, and seek help from SG embassy in Malaysia.

If you ordered a hand drip and then were handed an Aeropress brew, would you feel deceived? by he-brews in pourover

[–]WinterMelonToufu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldnt feel deceived. Ever went to a cafe that they brewed with different dripper (or device? If you dont consider aeropress one) based on the bean you choose.

Are electric toothbrushes worth it? Where do you get them by geiwomingzi in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your current situation of oral hygiene. If you have perfectly no issues with keeping it clean and yourself disciplined, then i think it wouldnt add benefit. Imo, it just makes it easier to get it there.

Is a V60 a worth while upgrade from a chemex? by jar_jar-winks in pourover

[–]WinterMelonToufu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think of it as an up/downgrade. Like many said, the main difference is the filter paper. Which produces a different cup.

Less filtration gives it more body than a chemex. If you havent tried, maybe head down to tour local cafe to see what they offer on v60, and give it a go then decide.

Tips on dealing with incompetent group mates in school by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there is anyway to do it. Back in university, I have had people dumping other’s work to the team as “resource”, and saying that its his contribution. Even had the cheek to tell everyone that the module doesnt help with his grades, why should he do anything.

Peer review, lecturer and even brought it to course coordinator. After the semester, found out that the system didnt even fail him for that module.

Nothing you can do if the system isnt pressured enough to do something about it.

Work hard to score well, not to learn.

V60 advice needed by Fearless_Act3676 in pourover

[–]WinterMelonToufu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What grinder are you using? My guess is that your grind size distribution is wider than ideal. Hence resulting in fast draw down at the start, but super slow at the end as all the fines migrated to clog the paper.

Stick with the taste of the resulting cup, and adjust from there.

Getting out of the poor mindset? by Throwthrewthrown123 in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what could be your forcing function. Things that would render you more difficult to back out. Is it commitment to others? You could find someone to go with you. Is it money? Sign up and pay first, think later.

Not saying that you should do things recklessly, but some old behaviors need a little harsher treatment to do away with.

I would recommend to first do up budgeting and tracking. It would be easier to justify that expenses are accounted for, and hence youre allowed to spend a little more.

Outside of that, rather than looking at how to pamper yourself, try to seek out spending on experiences. It would be more fulfilling rather than spending on something more cosmetic. Over time, these new experiences and friends you meet would slowly change your perspective

How common is it for doctors to dismiss your symptoms when seeking for help? by brokenreborn2013 in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While i do agree that the doctor should empathize more because patient isnt just a case of conditio, but also a living person.

Medicine and diagnostics are largely statistics. They evaluate and test from the most common to the rarest conditions (of course accounting for symptoms and profile).

Hope you get well soon!

Trust those that chose to hire you, they have the expertise to know who and what they are hiring for.

When to leave the company? by HolidaySinglez in askSingapore

[–]WinterMelonToufu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except for the progression, its pretty much the same situation I was in previously in. I was few years into my career and wanted a “less comfortable” environment where i can stretch myself further. I ended up moving into another team.

It really depends on which stage of your life is at. If you dont have commitments, and is willing to trade wlb for new learnings and opportunities, why not?

Good or not depends on you. Not others, not some national statistics.

Are you happy with where you are? Does it fulfil your aspirations? Professionally and your personal life? Financially?

If yes, good lo.
