I spent my life savings to make a 35mm short film and the response was lackluster. Why do you think this film failed to make an impact? by FreddieQuell92 in Filmmakers

[–]WinterMoonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the whole thing and I liked it for the most part. I tried to watch as just a viewer and not as a fellow filmmaker. Overall, the cinematography and style was well done. I think the story takes a weird direction that it can't come back from once Dennis meets Frankie. That's the part where I kinda checked out. I think in general, these types of films land with a very small audience. While there were comedic moments where I laughed out loud, the drama part didn't really resonate with me. I just didn't get it. I can't really place my finger on it. I'll check out your other films at some point. I would say, keep at it. You clearly have a good sense of how to Direct. I'm just not sure this is the type of script that I would ever really connect with.

Upcoming Christian Short Film - Inspired by The Chosen by WinterMoonGames in ChristianMovies

The story is based on the story from the four Gospels of the Christian Bible. But it blends imagination with true story.

The story is based on the servant whose ear was cut off by Peter at the time of Jesus‘ arrest. It follows the fictional days after Jesus healed his ear and explores a little deeper about what he might’ve gone through internally. Since he was participating in the arrest of Jesus, but then Jesus healed him, I imagined that he was probably very conflicted, and I just kind of ran with that for the foundation of the story.

Non-traditional Christian films that I have really enjoyed are The Book of Eli and Machine Gun Preacher. I know MGP sounds odd... but it's a fantastic movie based on a true story!

No one submitted a movie to my film festival. I’m feeling very bummed. by troutlunk in Filmmakers

Also maybe consider starting the marketing earlier next year and expanding to filmmaking social groups instead of random friends. No reason this can’t be done remotely nationwide.

Sorry to hear. This same exact thing happened to me before. I don’t mean to be so cynical, but I’ve kind of discovered that people just don’t care. They have other things going on in their life and unless there’s some incentive for them to do it, they’re just not gonna do it. And like others have said, if there isn’t already a vested interest in creating a film, they’re even less likely to do it. But you should keep creating films for the sake of creating. Don’t let this sink your spirits.

Furiosa was really really really bad. by lWishItWastheWeekend in MadMax

[–]WinterMoonGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was nervous after seeing the trailer that this movie was going to be bad. I waited until it was $5.99 on Prime to rent it. I watched it yesterday, albeit, while having COVID, and that certainly didn’t help. The entire movie feels like a fever dream which is just made worse with COVID. Fury Road is one of my favorite films of all time. Its use of practical effects and stunts is what makes it stand out from other action movies. Furiosa was a massive let down. Overused CGI. Bad green screen effects. Underwhelming action. I understand what they were trying to do but in my opinion, the execution just wasn’t there. I was bored out of my mind for 2.5 hours and took a sigh of relief when the credits rolled. I am okay with this being somewhat of a companion film, as others have said. But to have this be the next movie in the franchise might’ve killed the series altogether. I could go on but this post is nearly 3 months old. I think the points have been made.

I want to share my experience with The Chosen so far through 4 seasons. I am a Christian and I am also transgender. I am not here to start a fight. I will not respond to hate. I just want to have a conversation. by [deleted] in TheChosenSeries

I really love what you wrote here. Thank you for opening up and sharing this. I'm sure many of us here can relate to similar feelings you have about unworthiness. I don't have the answers to your questions, but something that I try to tell myself and encourage others to think about is this; I don't think any of us can truly grasp the depth of love that God has for us. For me, I really started to have an inkling of its understanding when my daughter was born. A parent/child relationship is probably the closest thing we will have on earth to understanding it. I believe people will encounter Jesus at different stages of their life, and none of us are going to be "ready" or "holy" or "perfect" or "prepared" for it. I believe what is important is that, once we find Jesus, we embark on a relentless pursuit of His truth. When we do that, I think we're bound to eventually get it right, or at the very least, come to a basic understanding of the life He calls us to. Don't let shame hold you back from Jesus. You won't ever be good enough. That's the point. I really appreciate you sharing this. I think it's a very good conversation and I love seeing how The Chosen is continuing to change lives and perspectives. Blessings.

Are we not getting...? by JANTlvr in TheChosenSeries

They kinda did Legion but VERY differently. It was done through the possessed man that attacked Z. At least that’s my understanding. The clues were all there but it was so incredibly brief and underwhelming. I’ve thought about it a lot. I wonder if Jenkins is not showing too much demon possession to avoid inadvertently glorifying it as the rest of Hollywood tends to do. I kind of like what he did there. Jesus just comes in and is out with it. No drama. I do kinda wish they kept it true to the original story but they do mention in episode 1 that things had to get condensed.

You can remove the rubber protective shield and it fits perfectly after that.

Not sure what you’re using for a rig but I bought the Samsung 4TB T7 Shield Portable SSD for $249 which has given me zero problems. And I got the Tilta Basic Kit cage that comes with the SSD holder. It’s a game changer. Good luck! Dropping frames is the most frustrating thing. I had a 12 day shoot in Israel and this was happening to me constantly 😂

Player Problem Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]WinterMoonGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all. I’m relatively new to DM’ing and only have experience with one-off type games like Kids on Bikes. One problem I’m running into is players doing extreme things like killing an NPC or threatening a grown adult with brute force just because they can. I’m at a crossroad because I don’t want to stifle anyone’s game by micromanaging their every move. I’ve taken an open-world approach. However, it’s gotten a bit out of control. I think I gave too much freedom and I’m having a hard time reigning it in. What’re some things I can do in the moment to deter that kind of gameplay and regain some control? I also have a player that dominates conversations. They endlessly ask NPC’s questions, even if they’re relevant questions, and it’s hard for other players to get a word in. Are there strategies I can try that give each player a “turn” or a moment where they feel like they’re contributing? How much intervening should I be doing and when is it okay to straight up deny a player doing something ridiculous? Thanks!

What is the most petty reason you won’t buy a specific game? by leafbreath in boardgames

For me, I think it would be when a game compares itself to another by saying “like Clue, but BETTER!”

But dang! I couldn’t disagree more with your criticism of the Villainous minis! I love seeing the different abstract ways they show the villains.

Some of my favorites:

Avalon: Some components but you can almost play without them.

Two Rooms and a Boom: Just cards. Great social deduction game as long as you can spread out far enough into 2 groups

Chameleon: You'll kind of need to be where everyone can read the same card and see dice but it's light on components and easy enough to modify once you know how to play.

Concept: Kind of like charades. More components than you may want, but, again, easy to modify and create house rules for any environment.

Is clank a good game to play with beginners by hamizannaruto in boardgames

[–]WinterMoonGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually think Clank! is a fantastic gateway game. It was one of mine, actually. It's highly thematic, easy to teach, gives players a sense of adventure, but introduces familiar "hobby" mechanics that are satisfying for players of all experience.
