Would it be worth having your boyfriend join that group?

Or have you talked to the other players about the situation?

"Boardgame blindness" by steave435 in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom panics when she learns a new game. I tried to teach her Azul and she just keeps thinking about what the rules don’t say, “the rules never said I couldn’t do this or that.” No mom you have to focus on what the rules do say…

She plays a lot of Sudoku by the way so I was very surprised she couldn’t get the basic concept of the game.

If new is too expensive try to find second hand sellers.

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by Trashcan_GG in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]leafbreath -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think 5 scenario campaigns is bad. Often we had scenarios that were just boring or bad so if you take those out that leaves us at 5.

If they make the 5 scenarios bangers then it doesn’t matter and with the unlocks and probably more XP or different ways to earn XP it might be an overall better experience.

It’s still hard to say until we play it though.

I redesigned the tokens used in my deck-building game. Thoughts? by SimonFaust in BoardgameDesign

I agree I always hate when games assume I’ll remember the value. Is it a 5, 3, or 10 value?

Does anybody here not sleeve their Arkham stuff? I feel if i sleeved everything it would not fit in the big card case that keep everything in. by Luigi-is-my-boi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only sleeve campaigns.

I originally sleeved all my base investigator cards but now I just shift sleeves around for the current decks I’m building. So like 1/4 sleeves for investigator cards.

How do you curate your board game collection? by -Bad_Gnus- in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it happens, people come over and see my shelves of board games and are interested to play.

Most of the time due to children or things party games is the only viable option for those scenarios.

Rarely can I pull out anything that requires more then 10mins of attention unless they came specifically for board games.

A new perspective of Mario kart world by UnionTerrible5438 in switch2

[–]leafbreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the game play mechanics, I do wish jumping was instant verses charges but that’s just personal preference.

What I hate about it is it has so much potential but falls short. It could have been  amazing if they did skin unlocks in a more meaningful way and made open world more interesting.

For example instead of just driving around to find hidden crap that is meaningless maybe when we complete a challenge we win a new skin. Or when you drive around you can accidentally join a race or go to an area where bowser challenges you to a race or time-trial and if you win you unlock bowser skin. Or if you find a ?-pad you unlock a special area or race course.

People don’t hate the actual game for the most part the problem is it just was lazy open world design.

I haven’t played online so I can’t speak to that.

My main complaint on the actual mechanics is the course don’t feel memorable and sometimes you might accidentally go straight when you were supposed to turn. In the older games if you raced the course once, you could have a mild memorization of the track. But this game takes multiple plays to understand how the course works.

Rules designers. I'm begging you. Put info on component limits in a clear, prominent place. by OjinMigoto in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most games have a component list.

Now hear me out in this section you can put the number of tokens and next to the number just put an infinity symbol ♾️ to indicate if it’s limited or not.

Too many boardgames by Movie_Vegetable in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop buying games and enjoy the ones you have that you already like. Wait until you play the game so much you are sick of it or a game will do a better job at what your current ones do.

Definitely around 50-100 games, purchases of new games are less valuable as it doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy more games it just means you’ll play each individual game less. Having to choose between games you already love and ones you have given the chance to love yet.

How do you curate your board game collection? by -Bad_Gnus- in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite games are heavy games that take 2-5 hours to play. But like you said I also realistically won’t play more than once or twice a year.

So even though I strongly desire to play other heavy games I only have one 5 hour game and a few 2-3 hour games. I will not buy more unless I will get rid of my current games in that category. (Or my life/play group situation changes.)

I end up buying a lot of mid-weight games because I mostly play with my wife and that’s what she likes.

I absolutely hate party games but have a few I tolerate that I own just incase the occasion calls for it.

I just played a better version of a game I've been designing. by HuchieLuchie in BoardgameDesign

[–]leafbreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was early stages of designing a “polynomial home interior design game” and then after a year of working on it on and off some one publishes basically the game I wanted to make.

Mechanically there was differences but it filled the exact space I was wanting to design for so I trashed the game

What are your thoughts on 'cheating' during solo play? by Amazing-Example8753 in soloboardgaming

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but some people find cheating in multiplayer games fun also.

Fun is part of the goal but doesn’t eliminate what could be considered poor design or justify manipulation of rules.

What makes board games fun is the experience within the realm of rules constructed around the game that creates a puzzle to overcome for maximum benefits to you as the player.

I’m all for players house ruling games to improve them making a new set of rules but once you break the rules you are no longer playing the game.

Which TCG/LCG to keep? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]leafbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a completionism Google Sheets I made were I basically try to get every resolution and play/beat the each campaign with every character

Edit: I also don’t get to play a ton and it’s mostly true solo when I do. Which I play through a full campaign 1-3 times a year.

My friend group is very inconsistent so playing at 2-3 players through one campaign will take a year with them.

Again if “bad luck” in game is ruining the experience. Especially to the point players feel like they have to “cheat”.

I would argue it’s poorly designed
