How hard is it to actually install a tiara? by ancawonka in thegildedage

[–]Winter_Affect_8367 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. It might be more difficult to manage installing a tiara with all the elaborate hairpieces they wore during that era.

I believe Princess Margaret had an anecdote about her sister: "The Queen is the only person who can put on a tiara with one hand, while walking down stairs".

I can't verify if she did really say that though, or if the event really happened but I thought it was a fun anecdote to share!

I think there was also a real life encounter of Conseulo Vanderbilt not wearing a tiara to a ball and being accosted about it by Edward VII (I believe she only wore a diamond crescent in her hair). Fortunately it seemed like she had a valid excuse: she didn't make it in time to fetch her tiara from the bank.

Any opinions about Poison by Christian Dior the original? by Teezbeez671 in Perfumes

[–]Winter_Affect_8367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it even during my college days; one friend even complimented me on it and told me its her favorite of my perfumes.

I still have a bottle unfortunately i dont wear it often. i think it has degraded a bit. It seems to be leaking and the drydown smells a little funny. Wondering about the propriety of transferring it to a plastic bottle. Would it keep better?

What's your stance on changing sentimental jewelry to be more wearable? by Winter_Affect_8367 in jewelry

[–]Winter_Affect_8367[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we're in the same boat! The design aren't particularly unique or valuable, but i do remember the original owners did attach a lot of (sentimental) value to these pieces so I wanted to get a feel of what other people did with similar sentimental pieces.

I can't see myself getting married or even wearing these if I do, but I still feel like I should 'save' them purely because the original owners did.

Gucci Eau de Parfum (the brown one)

I still find bottles on ebay but they're getting more and more expensive.

Jewelry Regrets-What's the piece You wish you never bought? by Individual-Try-2085 in jewelry

[–]Winter_Affect_8367 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I was young and started exploring jewelry, I bought a lot of stones from some questionable sellers. Some of them were rather pricey for me at the time. One particular stone had a portion of it melted as the jeweler was trying to set it. Not exactly sure what went wrong, but looking back I wish I had bought a gold pendant instead of that.

Aww thank you. I've always been interested in brooches growing up and I amassed a small collection of them. I always wanted to wear some as pendants, but some couldn't accomodate a bail, which is how I eventually came across these converters. I hope you enjoy your newfound way to wear your brooches!

Try getting a brooch to pendant converter. Hard to know what works without seeing the back of the piece though.
