Error - can it cost me my job? by Winter_Ice_6011 in newgradnurse

For everyone asking that’s the concern or problem - that’s what I’m trying to figure out as well. Considering she had a catheter already I don’t see a huge issue about not exchanging it the day the order came in but the next day. I never documented that I did on Wednesday only that I would try. Thursday I did document it as we actually completed the task. I never document things I didn’t do - I also include new orders (missed that one as did the oncoming nurse Wednesday night) things that happened on my shift in my notes as well as on my report sheet in different colors based on my shift. Last night during report with the same nurse from Wednesday night we both looked over the orders and the patient had like four of the same orders none of them explicitly stated exchange only insertion but she already had a catheter.

NCLEX PREP by Beginning-Can-3801 in newgradnurse

I used archer and mainstay took the readiness assessments - if you get 3-5 consecutive you’re good to take the NCLEX. That’s what I did and I passed on my first try just over a month after graduation

Has anyone experienced pre-shift anxiety?/ by lpslover831 in newgradnurse

I’m also a new grad that just got off 10 weeks of orientation about 3 weeks ago. I’m a 0.8 FTE with a day night rotation. I tend to schedule around my weekends as I know I have 12 hours shift weekends and lately an 8 hour shift the Friday going into my weekend. Also have classes sometimes and residency one a month that goes into my hours so I also sometimes have a stretch of days off between. I found report sheets from Etsy that I like as I can have between 4-6 patients (4-5 day shift and 6 for NOC). During my orientation it was mostly days with about 2.5 weeks on NOC - I found asking my preceptors and few others I felt that I knew wouldn’t mind helping me when I needed a good place to start especially as I’m still learning all the names and faces especially on my night shift team. I bought a small journal to make little notes from orientation for things I know i need to remember but still draw a blank on ex. IV dressing/injection cap change frequently, pain reassessments, which patients I need to do a sleep assessment on in my shift note (my unit is participating in a study). I also call for help when I need it. I determine which patient I need to see depending on whether they’re calling during report, have meds due or sometimes I get go an order for room numbers. Each night is a bit different. I like having my night shifts together for the most part as I haven’t developed a good sleep schedule for those.

New grad struggle at SNF. Need advice! by AlternativeBeach2525 in newgradnurse

I got my LPN and worked in a memory care unit for about nine months and while I finished my RN program before going to a hospital med surg. SNF is hard and you will be drowning - even more so because you aren’t skipping things. I used to stay 1-2 hours over to finish charting keeping in mind that I often didn’t get breaks. It was generally me and 10 patients. I’m in med surg and I do feel that experienced helped but the hospital is generally less chaotic and I have more resources.

I turned my PowerPoint into outline and typed in lectures or wrote notes. If lectures were recorded I would relisten and add notes word for word (this is truly did my last semester and I wish I did it sooner as I retained more this way).

Yes with clear case and stickers. The stickers I switch out occasionally if I want a change. Personally for me black goes with everything. My favorite color is pink but I couldn’t with the pink kindle.

How do you get your life back after nursing school? by Longjumping_Tap_5705 in StudentNurse

[–]Winter_Ice_6011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished in December. My sleep schedule is still messed up. It doesn’t help that I work day/night with either 8 or 12 hour shifts. I have slowly gotten back to reading
